Bitwarden CLI Compromised in Ongoing Checkmarx Supply Chain Campaign

Bitwarden CLI , the command-line interface for the password manager Bitwarden, has reportedly been compromised as part of a newly discovered and ongoing Checkmarx supply chain campaign , according to findings from JFrog and Socket. "The affected package version appears to be @bitwarden/cli@2026.4.0 , and the malicious code was published in 'bw1.js,' a file included in the package contents," the application security company said . "The attack appears to have leveraged a compromised GitHub Action in Bitwarden's CI/CD pipeline, consistent with the pattern seen across other affected repositories in this campaign." In a post on X, JFrog said the rogue version of the package "steals GitHub/npm tokens, .ssh, .env, shell history, GitHub Actions and cloud secrets, then exfiltrates the data to private domains and as GitHub commits." Last week, Anthropic announced Project Glasswing, an AI model so effective at discovering software vulnerabilities that they took the extraordinary step of postponing its public release. China-Linked GopherWhisper Infects 12 Mongolian Government Systems with Go Backdoors

Mongolian governmental institutions have emerged as the target of a previously undocumented China-aligned advanced persistent threat (APT) group tracked as GopherWhisper . "The group wields a wide array of tools mostly written in Go, using injectors and loaders to deploy and execute various backdoors in its arsenal," Slovakian cybersecurity company ESET said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "GopherWhisper abuses legitimate services, notably Discord, Slack, Microsoft 365 Outlook, and file.io for command-and-control (C&C) communication and exfiltration." The group was first discovered in January 2025 following the discovery of a never-before-seen backdoor codenamed LaxGopher on a system belonging to a Mongolian governmental entity.
