Hackers Hijack Five OVHcloud CLI Releases to Distribute Secret-Stealing Malware

Hackers Hijack Five OVHcloud CLI Releases to Distribute Secret-Stealing Malware

Oct 20, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Cyber Attack
An attacker used a contributor's GitHub account to replace the download archives on five existing releases of OVHcloud's command-line tool on Monday, October 19. The account had been hijacked, and the new files were a build designed to steal secrets stored on the disk of any machine that runs it, the cloud provider says. They were live on GitHub for up to 94 minutes, from 12:47 to 14:21 UTC, and reached only people who installed or updated the OVHcloud CLI during that window, via a path that checks for no hash, on macOS, Linux x86_64 or arm64, or Windows x86_64. OVHcloud deleted the swapped archives and published a clean  v0.16.0  that evening as an immutable release, whose files GitHub will not let anyone change. The source code, the release tag, and the company's build pipeline were not touched: the bad build was a plain go build of a later commit, uploaded straight onto releases published between April and September. Who Was Exposed On v0.15.0, the attac...
ClickFix Attackers Exploit Siemens Software Center Flaw to Deploy Remote Access Trojan

ClickFix Attackers Exploit Siemens Software Center Flaw to Deploy Remote Access Trojan

Oct 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Endpoint Security
Siemens has addressed a DLL sideloading vulnerability impacting Siemens Software Center that it said has been exploited in ClickFix attacks. The high-severity vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-110936 (CVSS v4 score: 8.4), could allow an attacker to place a specially-crafted DLL in a directory the application searches, resulting in execution of malicious code with the same privileges as the affected service. "The affected application loads dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) from an uncontrolled search path," Siemens said in an advisory. "This could allow an authenticated local attacker to place a specially crafted DLL in a directory that the application searches, leading to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the affected application." The issue has been patched in version 4.0.9.8. Huntress Labs researcher Jose Oregon has been credited with discovering and reporting the shortcoming. In a separate alert, Siemens said attackers have abused a genuine ...

Ex-OpenAI Engineer Detained in Spy Device Case as Saudi Royal Contacts Emerge

Oct 20, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Data Security
A U.S. court on Monday granted the U.S. government's request to detain a former OpenAI engineer accused of planting a recording device in an executive conference room at the company's San Francisco office to allegedly steal sensitive secrets. In a new court filing Sunday, prosecutors revealed that Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi national, was "in frequent communications via WhatsApp with a member of the Saudi Royal Family" throughout 2025 and 2026. Alfozan is said to have communicated with the Saudi royal as recently as October 5, 2026, four days before he was arrested. "Among other things, the individual told the defendant that an artificial intelligence initiative was being launched in Saudi Arabia and wanted the defendant to join it," the filing reads. "In May 2026, the individual told the defendant, 'Saudi needs you more then [sic] the US!' to which the defendant responded '100,' indicating he agreed." The S...

Hackers Use New ROMULUS ClickFix Platform to Deliver LegionLoader and Other Malware

Hackers Use New ROMULUS ClickFix Platform to Deliver LegionLoader and Other Malware

Oct 20, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Cybercrime
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a ClickFix delivery platform called ROMULUS that's being used to distribute malware such as Legion Loader. According to Forescout Research - Vedere Labs, ROMULUS is akin to a malware delivery service that employs ClickFix-style lures on bogus landing pages to trick unsuspecting users into running malicious commands and infecting their own machines. "ROMULUS may be a privately operated panel, a commercial cybercriminal delivery service, an affiliate framework, or software that has been copied between operators," security researcher Sai Molige said in an analysis. The cybersecurity company said it identified six IP addresses running ROMULUS -
Hackers Exploit Plex2Shell Flaws to Install Crypto Miners and Linux Proxy Backdoor

Hackers Exploit Plex2Shell Flaws to Install Crypto Miners and Linux Proxy Backdoor

Oct 19, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a chain of vulnerabilities in Plex Media Server to deploy cryptocurrency miners and reverse proxy software, a day after a proof-of-concept (PoC) went public. According to a researcher who goes by the online alias boredhackerblog , the exploitation activity involves chaining four different vulnerabilities, collectively called Plex2Shell . The vulnerabilities are below - CVE-2026-96652 (CVSS score: 5.3) - An unauthenticated server-side request forgery (SSRF) stemming via the "/player/timeline" endpoint by taking advantage of the fact that the "protocol" parameter is inserted into a programmatically-constructed player URL with no validation, allowing an attacker to force the Plex server to POST to a destination of their choice. CVE-2026-96654 (CVSS score: 6.9) - An improper neutralization of URL values included in the "searchOne" endpoint that could allow an attacker to call other plugins' functions and...
Popular WordPress SEO Plugin Rank Math PRO Hijacked to Deliver Self-Restoring Backdoor

Popular WordPress SEO Plugin Rank Math PRO Hijacked to Deliver Self-Restoring Backdoor

Oct 19, 2026 Web Security / Vulnerability
Copies of Rank Math PRO, the paid version of the Rank Math SEO plugin for WordPress, that were downloaded from rankmath.com or delivered as updates between 20:02 UTC on October 15 and 07:12 UTC on October 16 contained malware, Rank Math said in a  security notice  published on October 16. Any site that installed and activated one of those copies should be treated as compromised, and the malware can recreate its hidden backdoor whenever someone visits the site. Rank Math has removed the affected files and released a clean version, 3.0.124. Installing it replaces the plugin but does not remove files, administrator accounts, or scheduled tasks the malware may already have placed elsewhere on the server, Wordfence said in an  advisory  on October 17. Who Is Affected The version number does not show whether a copy is affected. Rank Math's  changelog  dates 3.0.123 to October 7, more than a week before the window opened, and the notice limits the inciden...

⚡ Weekly Recap: 98 Zero-Days, Rogue AI Agents, $100M Crypto Theft, 700 Supermarkets Hit and More

Oct 19, 2026 Cybersecurity News / Hacking
The worst problems don't always come with a warning. Sometimes they arrive through a service everyone trusts, a device someone bought, or a system nobody thought to check. By the time something looks wrong, the damage may already be done. This week had plenty of that. Trusted connections became a problem. Hardware wasn't as safe as it looked. Old bugs found new victims, and some systems were left so exposed that breaking in barely required any effort. Even AI agents crossed lines they weren't supposed to. Some attacks were clever. Others were painfully simple. The full recap shows just how much can go wrong, and how little it sometimes takes. ⚡ Threat of the Week ConnectWise Suspends Cloud Backup Following Unauthorized Access — ConnectWise disabled seven ConnectWise application identities as it continues its investigation into an incident in which unknown threat actors obtained unauthorized access to the application identities and compromised Microsoft 365 tenant...
GhostAction Attackers Plant Credential Stealer Disguised as Font in 94 GitHub Repositories

GhostAction Attackers Plant Credential Stealer Disguised as Font in 94 GitHub Repositories

Oct 19, 2026 Developer Security / Supply Chain
The threat actor behind the GhostAction supply chain attack has expanded beyond injecting malicious GitHub Actions workflows into compromised projects to phish open-source developers and deliver a stealer malware disguised within a fake font file. The latest evolution, detailed by OpenSourceMalware, signals that the attackers are actively refining their modus operandi in response to steps taken by GitHub to prevent the workflow from running. According to the threat intelligence platform, the threat actor registered the domain " my-github[.]com " and pointed it at " 193.32.204[.]199 ," the same IP address that's used as an exfiltration endpoint for data harvested from running the malicious workflow. The domain was registered on October 9, 2026, 17 days after " my-gitlab[.]com " was registered. There is no evidence at this stage to suggest that the two code-hosting-themed domains are operated by the same threat actor. "It follows the sam...
From Email-to-Case to the Boardroom: How Inherited Agents Break Governance Built for Software

From Email-to-Case to the Boardroom: How Inherited Agents Break Governance Built for Software

Oct 19, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Enterprise Security
In Salesforce Agentforce, the recommended way to make an agent respond to events is a Flow: a record is created or a case is updated, and the Flow passes data into the agent's prompt. Separately, Email-to-Case and Web-to-Case turn inbound customer messages into case records; it is how airlines and hotels run support intake. Both are standard, documented, as-designed features. Chained together, they produce this path: public internet → email → case record → agent prompt → agent action → case comment → outbound reply An unauthenticated outsider now has a route into an internal agent's instructions, and the agent's reply leaves through the same door. Nothing was misconfigured. The finding, documented by researchers in August 2026, is a clean example of how agents that arrive inside existing platforms fail: through the application around them, not the model inside them. The risk is in the application, and the application is the thing nobody re-reviewed Which intake fea...
Fake Web3 Accelerator Uses npm Packages to Spread Malware and Hijack AI Agent Traffic

Fake Web3 Accelerator Uses npm Packages to Spread Malware and Hijack AI Agent Traffic

Oct 19, 2026 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
A fake Web3 accelerator has been observed pushing information stealers and backdoors to Windows and macOS systems using malicious npm packages under the pretext of offering free artificial intelligence (AI) credits for Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini, coding tools, and security audits. "The tools delivered information-stealing malware and backdoors for macOS and Windows machines," Elastic Security Labs researchers Jia Yu Chan and Daniel Stepanic said . "The operation also repackaged a legitimate coding agent to send model requests through attacker-controlled services, while its audit tools generated fabricated security findings." The scheme poses as a Web3 venture capital accelerator named Apex Accelerator to target cryptocurrency startups and founders. It's being tracked under the moniker REF8801 . The names of the npm packages, each of which targets both Windows and macOS machines, are listed below - @apexacc/cli (Apex Copilot CLI — AI advisor fo...
Unpatched Broadcom Wi-Fi Flaw Lets Attackers in Range Run Code as Root on Routers

Unpatched Broadcom Wi-Fi Flaw Lets Attackers in Range Run Code as Root on Routers

Oct 19, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
A flaw in Broadcom's Wi-Fi setup software lets an attacker within radio range run code as root on Broadcom-based routers, without the network password or any pairing step, security researcher Quentin Kaiser  disclosed  on October 16. He showed the attack working against home gateways supplied by three Belgian internet providers, in one case reading the Wi-Fi password off the device and in another opening a remote shell over the air. No CVE has been assigned to the flaw, and no fix has been deployed to the affected routers, Kaiser says. The flaw is in Broadcom's version of Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), the feature that lets a device join a Wi-Fi network without the password being typed in. Broadcom's code mishandles the reassembly of fragmented WPS setup messages, so an attacker in range can send crafted messages that corrupt the router's memory. From there, Kaiser built two things: a way to read memory back off the device, and a way to run his own code on it. Ag...
OpenCode Console Breach May Have Exposed OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google API Keys

OpenCode Console Breach May Have Exposed OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google API Keys

Oct 19, 2026 Data Breach / Artificial Intelligence
An intruder reached a legacy system at OpenCode on the night of October 16 and may have exposed the third-party AI provider keys that users had saved in OpenCode Console, the company said. Console is OpenCode's optional hosted service: a workspace saves its own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google key there, and Console uses that key to call the provider so team members can use the models without ever seeing the key. The affected group is 1.4% of Console users, all of whom have an outside provider linked, and OpenCode has told them via email to revoke those keys with each provider and replace them. The email went out on the morning of October 17 under the subject line "Action Required: Potential provider key breach." Anyone who did not get one was not affected,  OpenCode said  in a post on X later that day. The keys at risk are the ones pasted into Console. The OpenCode command-line and desktop apps keep provider keys added on the machine in a  SQLite database  th...

MALFEX npm Package 'imgdecode' Hides Shellcode Loader in Windows Native Addon

MALFEX npm Package 'imgdecode' Hides Shellcode Loader in Windows Native Addon

Oct 17, 2026 Malware / Windows Security
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a malicious npm package that's part of a recently disclosed software supply chain attack campaign dubbed MALFEX . The package, named " imgdecode ," was uploaded to the package registry on September 30, 2026, by a user named "malfexteste8." It has been downloaded 979 times as of writing and is still available on npm as of writing. The latest version of the package is 1.0.3. "The npm package imgdecode hides a malicious loader in a compiled Node.js addon," SafeDep said . "Its nine-line JavaScript file loads a Windows dynamic-link library (DLL). When a Node.js program calls require('imgdecode') from a Windows console, the DLL attempts to download encrypted shellcode from GitHub. It decrypts the response and injects the result into a new dllhost.exe process." First documented by both Checkmarx and CloudSEK, MALFEX is the name assigned to a long-running campaign in which an unknown threat...

Hackers Use Compromised ConnectWise Credential to Sign In to 173 Microsoft 365 Tenants

Oct 17, 2026 Cloud Security / Cyberattack
Cybersecurity researchers are sounding the alarm related to an active campaign in which unknown threat actors are abusing a compromised Microsoft 365 (M365) credential belonging to ConnectWise Cloud Backup (formerly SkyKick) to gain unauthorized access to customers' M365 environments. ConnectWise Cloud Backup is a cloud-based backup and recovery service built for managed service providers (MSPs) to secure their clients' Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data. To accomplish its tasks, the application is granted broad access to mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and directory data in every tenant on which it's installed. Huntress said it has observed confirmed unauthorized sign-ins within 173 partner/customer tenants using the compromised vendor credential. The incident impacts every organization that has the app installed, and the credential works against every tenant the app is consented in. "The app's credential is in hostile hands," security r...
Researchers Demonstrate OpenBSD Root Exploit Chaining 37-Year-Old Shared-Memory Bug

Researchers Demonstrate OpenBSD Root Exploit Chaining 37-Year-Old Shared-Memory Bug

Oct 16, 2026 Vulnerability / OpenBSD
A local privilege escalation exploit published today gains root on OpenBSD 7.9 by chaining a roughly 37-year-old integer overflow with a separate kernel flaw, bypassing OpenBSD's KARL kernel-address randomization and its SMAP and SMEP hardware protections. Security firm Calif, which found and reported the flaws, published a detailed writeup and full proof-of-concept code after OpenBSD shipped patches for both issues in September. The integer overflow in the shmat(4) attach function was fixed in errata 018 , shipped September 14 as a reliability fix. The reference-counting use-after-free that completes the chain was fixed separately in errata 026, shipped September 30 as a security fix. Both are available through syspatch and cover all architectures. OpenBSD 7.8 also received the integer-overflow fix. The integer overflow, the entry point for the full chain, is classified as a reliability fix, not a security fix. No CVE has been assigned for either flaw as of publication. ...
