The 4 Elements of Exposure Prioritization and How to Operationalize Them

The 4 Elements of Exposure Prioritization and How to Operationalize Them

Nov 03, 2026 Threat Intelligence / Security Operations
Your team is remediating more vulnerabilities than ever, yet your breach risk has barely changed. You’re spending too much time and effort on exposures attackers may never exploit, while higher-risk exposures sit, waiting in the queue. Gartner ® ’s report on exposure prioritization states that fewer than 10% of vulnerabilities are exploited, yet most are treated as urgent. The report also argues that CVSS scores alone do not predict actual exploitation or business impact. Gartner predicts that by 2028, organizations that prioritize exposures using threat intelligence , asset context , exploitability modeling , and security control validation will reduce breach likelihood by at least 70% compared to their peers relying primarily on CVSS-based vulnerability prioritization. Let’s break down how each element works, and how the Picus Platform puts all four into practice. Severity-based prioritization made sense. Then it didn't. Severity-driven prioritization was an entirely r...

Hackers Exploit BTCPay Server Flaw to Steal Bitcoin and Litecoin From Hot Wallets

Nov 03, 2026 Vulnerability / Cryptocurrency
BTCPay Server, a self-hosted, open-source cryptocurrency payment processor, has urged users to install the latest version of its software in response to reports of Bitcoin and Litecoin being stolen from hot wallets on instances running older versions. "Our investigation found that these attacks targeted servers running BTCPay Server 2.4.1 (released on 23 July 2026) or earlier," BTCPay Server said . "The attackers used a different method to exploit the vulnerability fixed in 2.4.2, released on 7 August 2026." Users who are running versions 2.4.1 or earlier are recommended to move to a fresh server with a new wallet, even in scenarios where users have not noticed a theft. In the event of stolen funds or suspected unauthorized access, it's imperative that users consider the entire machine and all secrets stored on it as compromised and follow the same recovery procedures. It's currently unknown when the attackers behind the campaign first began exploi...

Synology NAS Devices Targeted in Ransomware Attacks Exploiting Patched DSM Flaw

Synology NAS Devices Targeted in Ransomware Attacks Exploiting Patched DSM Flaw

Nov 03, 2026 Ransomware / Cyber Attack
Synology is urging customers to update the DiskStation Manager (DSM) software powering its Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices following ransomware attacks. The Taiwanese vendor said it observed threat actors exploiting a vulnerability patched in December 2024 to target devices running outdated versions of DSM. "These attacks aim to encrypt data and extort ransom," it said in a statement released last week. While Synology did not disclose the exact security flaw that's being exploited in these attacks, the company linked to a November 2024 security advisory that listed three vulnerabilities - CVE-2024-10441 (CVSS score: 9.8) - An improper encoding or escaping of output vulnerability in the system plugin daemon of DSM that could lead to remote code execution via unspecified vectors. CVE-2024-50629 (CVSS score: 5.3) - An improper encoding or escaping of output vulnerability in the webapi component of DSM that could allow remote attackers to read limite...
New Wave of Refrigeration Cyberattacks Hits Supermarkets Across Europe, Forcing Stores to Pull Food

New Wave of Refrigeration Cyberattacks Hits Supermarkets Across Europe, Forcing Stores to Pull Food

Nov 03, 2026 Cyberattack / Industrial Security
Attackers remotely changed the settings on refrigeration controls at supermarkets in Belgium, Sweden, Estonia and other European countries overnight into Monday, November 2, warming fridges and freezers. No chain reported more than several dozen affected stores, and some had to throw away chilled and frozen food or take it off the shelf. Danfoss, a Danish maker of refrigeration controls,  said its products were involved , as they were three weeks earlier when  attackers hit hundreds of French supermarkets . No one had claimed the attacks by Monday night, and it was not known whether they were linked to the attack in France. Refrigeration controls are computers that run a store's fridges and freezers. They can be connected to the internet, allowing refrigeration contractors to monitor them and fix faults remotely. In Belgium, attackers switched cooling units into defrost mode, Stephan Moelans, chief executive of the refrigeration contractor Sabcobel,  told Belgi...

Attackers Exploit Critical Siemens IoT2050 Flaw to Plant Remote Command Backdoors

Nov 03, 2026 Vulnerability / Cyber Attack
A maximum-severity security flaw impacting Siemens SIMATIC IoT2050 Advanced devices has come under active exploitation, VulnCheck has revealed . The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-58115 (CVSS score: 10.0), is a case of missing authentication for a critical function that could be exploited by an unauthenticated remote attacker to run arbitrary code. "SIMATIC IoT2050 Advanced devices running Industrial OS with Node-RED installed contain a missing authentication vulnerability in the Node-RED HTTP interface that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to create malicious flows and execute arbitrary code on the underlying server with maximum privileges," Siemens said in an advisory released back in August 2026. The issue has been remediated in versions 4.3.4.1 or later. As mitigations, Siemens recommends that users uninstall Node-RED or harden the installation by following the steps below - Enabling HTTPS access Securing the editor and admin API via cre...

⚡ Weekly Recap: Critical CVEs, Linux DDoS Botnet, Device-Code Phishing, Android Spyware and More

Nov 02, 2026 Cybersecurity News / Hacking
Some attacks this week didn't need much of a trick. A fake support call, a trusted extension, a shared link, or a device with no password. Small things that people barely think about. Yet each was enough to cause serious trouble. Then there were the bigger messes. Billions stolen, hidden networks of hacked devices, poisoned software, and attackers finding new ways to turn normal tools against their users. Even the places meant to keep money and systems safe ended up with problems of their own. The strange part is how often the damage started somewhere nobody was looking. And that's before getting to the long list of fresh bugs, shady services, and scams making the rounds. Quite a bit to sort through. Here's what made the list. ⚡ Threat of the Week N. Google Disrupts 1.3 Million-Device Android Botnet, Says TV Box Maker Sold Criminal Access

Nov 02, 2026 Botnet / Cybercrime
A botnet of more than 1.3 million Android devices, mostly TV set-top boxes, lost control of its servers in late October in a takedown led by Google. Google says  it is highly confident that device maker Videostrong intentionally put a backdoor in the boxes and sold access to criminals. They used the boxes for ad fraud and to pass other people's internet traffic through owners' home connections. The backdoor is still on the boxes, and owners cannot remove it themselves. Videostrong, based in Shenzhen, China, makes Android TV boxes and other devices under its own name and for other brands. The backdoor, called x.cpe, was built into many device models and brands over several years. Google does not believe a rogue insider or a mistake was to blame. Google used legal action to take down the domains and servers that controlled the botnet. It also took down the control domains of more than a dozen malware families loaded through the backdoor. Japan's National Police Agenc...

DarkBlinders Compromises Israeli Target and Iraqi Kurdish Government Cloud Environment

Nov 02, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Cyber Attack
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a cyber espionage campaign targeting Israel and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq by an Iran state-aligned threat actor between August and October 2026. According to a report published by Dream Research Labs, the campaign has led to the compromise of a high-profile individual in Israel, along with additional compromises affecting a government cloud environment in the Kurdistan Region. The activity has been attributed to a threat actor known as DarkBlinders , an Iran-nexus group assessed to be active since at least September 2024 and linked to attacks aimed at aviation infrastructure and telecommunications in the U.A.E. and Iraq. It exhibits no technical overlap with other known hacking groups. Attacks mounted by the group are known to rely on spear-phishing as an initial access pathway to lure recipients into opening trojanized utilities or clicking on attacker-controlled websites that host similar tools as direct downloads. Critical Langflow Flaws Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Run Code on Servers

Nov 02, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
Two critical flaws in Langflow could let a remote attacker with no account bypass authentication or run arbitrary code,  IBM said last week . Langflow is an open-source tool for building AI agents and workflows, and its vulnerability reports go to IBM. Every release from 1.0.0 through 1.12.8 has the flaws, and the only fix is version 1.13.0. Neither flaw is in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, as of the catalog's October 30 update. Six other Langflow flaws are listed there, most recently CVE-2026-9198, which was added in August . The four Langflow flaws in IBM's bulletin, first published on October 28 and updated the next day, are:
Is Your SOC Ready for AI Agents? A Maturity Check Before You Deploy

Is Your SOC Ready for AI Agents? A Maturity Check Before You Deploy

Nov 02, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Threat Detection
Forty percent of security teams now use AI every day, and another 56% are testing it. Only 4% have no plans to adopt it, according to Prophet Security's State of AI in Security Operations 2026 survey of more than 250 CISOs, SOC leaders and practitioners. For the teams still testing, the next decision is whether their own SOC is ready. AI SOC readiness has two parts: whether a SOC has the problems AI SOC agents are built for, and whether it has the data access, context, written standards and oversight rules that AI agents need to investigate alerts accurately in its environment. A SOC does not need to be far along a maturity model to be ready. AI agents do their first work on the bottom layer, alert handling, and the analyst hours they return give a team room to work on the layers above it. The next section describes those problems. Technical readiness covers four areas: access and context, an investigation standard with baseline metrics, rules for what the agent may do, and a...
Attackers Pose as IT Support on Microsoft Teams, Abuse AD CS to Steal Company Data

Attackers Pose as IT Support on Microsoft Teams, Abuse AD CS to Steal Company Data

Nov 02, 2026 Social Engineering / Active Directory
Attackers posing as IT support on Microsoft Teams talked employees into giving them remote control of their PCs. They then used insecure Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) settings to obtain login certificates for privileged accounts, including one for a domain controller. Microsoft said in  a report  that it investigated two such intrusions, one of which resulted in company data being copied to an external server. The attackers exploited no flaw in Teams itself. They relied on social engineering and on AD CS that had been set up insecurely, and Microsoft did not tie the activity to any known group. How the Attacks Began Both intrusions started the same way, Microsoft said. The attackers messaged and called employees on Teams while posing as the company's own IT or help desk, working from outside tenants with support-themed names so the contact looked familiar. They talked each user into opening Quick Assist, a remote-help tool built into Windows, and rea...
