Biggest-Ever DDoS Attack (1.35 Tbs) Hits Github Website

Mar 02, 2018
On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, GitHub's code hosting website hit with the largest-ever distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that peaked at record 1.35 Tbps. Interestingly, attackers did not use any botnet network, instead weaponized misconfigured Memcached servers to amplify the DDoS attack. Earlier this week we published a report detailing how attackers could abuse Memcached, popular open-source and easily deployable distributed caching system, to launch over 51,000 times powerful DDoS attack than its original strength. Dubbed Memcrashed , the amplification DDoS attack works by sending a forged request to the targeted Memcrashed server on port 11211 using a spoofed IP address that matches the victim's IP. A few bytes of the request sent to the vulnerable server trigger tens of thousands of times bigger response against the targeted IP address. "This attack was the largest attack seen to date by Akamai, more than twice the size of the September 2016...

602 Gbps! This May Have Been the Largest DDoS Attack in History

Jan 09, 2016
Cyber attacks are getting evil and worst nightmare for companies day-by-day, and the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is one of the favorite weapon for hackers to temporarily suspend services of a host connected to the Internet. Until now, nearly every big website had been a victim of this attack, and the most recent one was conducted against the BBC 's websites and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump 's main campaign website over this past holiday weekend. Out of two, the largest DDoS attack in the history was carried out against the BBC website: Over 600 Gbps . Largest DDoS Attack in the History The group calling itself New World Hacking claimed responsibility for taking down both the BBC's global website and Donald Trump's website last week. The group targeted all BBC sites, including its iPlayer on-demand service, and took them down for at least three hours on New Year's Eve. At the moment, the BBC news organiz...

5 Reasons Device Management Isn't Device Trust

Apr 21, 2025Endpoint Security / Zero Trust
The problem is simple: all breaches start with initial access, and initial access comes down to two primary attack vectors – credentials and devices. This is not news; every report you can find on the threat landscape depicts the same picture.  The solution is more complex. For this article, we'll focus on the device threat vector. The risk they pose is significant, which is why device management tools like Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) are essential components of an organization's security infrastructure. However, relying solely on these tools to manage device risk actually creates a false sense of security. Instead of the blunt tools of device management, organizations are looking for solutions that deliver device trust . Device trust provides a comprehensive, risk-based approach to device security enforcement, closing the large gaps left behind by traditional device management solutions. Here are 5 of those limitations and how to ov...
