FBI Seizes 15 DDoS-For-Hire Websites, 3 Operators Charged

The FBI just saved the Christmas. The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier today that the FBI has seized domains of 15 "DDoS-for-hire" websites and charged three individuals running some of these services. DDoS-for-hire , or "Booter" or "Stresser," services rent out access to a network of infected devices, which then can be used by anyone, even the least tech-savvy individual, to launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against any website and disrupt its access. In recent years, multiple hacking groups ruined Christmas Day for millions of gamers by taking down PlayStation, Xbox networks and other gaming servers using massive DDoS attacks. "Booter services such as those named in this action allegedly cause attacks on a wide array of victims in the United States and abroad, including financial institutions, universities, internet service providers, government systems, and various gaming platforms," the DoJ said. ...

So far, the torrent users didn’t forget the incident of The Pirate Bay seizer, that another most popular Torrent website, KickAss Torrents , has been kicked off by the Somalian registry. KickAss Torrent download website has lost access to its Kickass.so - the Somalian domain with millions of unique visitors per day and the most visited torrent website on the Internet. The domain is currently offline and, according to TorrentFreak, the Somalia based KickAss Torrent download domain was recently listed as "banned" by the .so registry, forcing the site's operators to switch to another domain. Just like The Pirate Bay , KickAss Torrents is also a well-known torrent download service that has often been criticized for providing easy access to pirated content, so it’s no surprise that the ban came following a complaint received by Somalian authorities. Kim Dotcom is still fighting a legal battle in New Zealand against the United States over alleged copyright infringement and piracy. Kim Dotcom's upcoming Mega website Me.ga has had its domain name seized by the African nation of Gabon, with a government minister saying his country will not be used as a base for copyright infringement. Last week, Dotcom unveiled plans to relaunch his file-sharing site in January 2013, using the Gabonese domain me.ga, with the message " this button will change the world ." "Gabon cannot serve as a platform or screen for committing acts aimed at violating copyrights, nor be used by unscrupulous people," says the country's Communication Minister Blaise Louembe.
