Metabase has warned that a maximum-severity security flaw impacting its business intelligence and data visualization software package has been exploited in the wild as a zero-day. The vulnerability (CVSS score: 10.0), which does not carry a CVE identifier, allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to inject arbitrary SQL into the Metabase application database, enabling them to gain administrator access to the instance. Armed with the elevated access, the attacker can change the application configuration, steal stored credentials for the connected databases, read any data accessible through those connections, and export data. "We recently identified that Metabase Cloud was attacked by someone utilizing an unknown ('0-day') security vulnerability in versions 1.58 and above," Metabase said in an advisory. Attackers broke into an organization's Oracle database through a SQL injection flaw in a public-facing web application, then installed a post-exploitation toolkit without writing an executable to disk. They fed Java source code to the database, let Oracle compile it into stored schema objects, and ran commands from inside the database engine. Huntress, which tracks the toolkit as khunt , investigated after credential-theft detections fired on July 27, 2026, and traced the chain to SYSTEM-level code execution on the underlying Windows server. The flaw sat in the application, where an autocomplete search field passed unvalidated input to the database over a Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) connection. The account behind that connection had enough privilege to create Java objects. No Oracle patch closes either the application flaw or the account privilege behind it. cPanel has patched a flaw that let an authenticated hosting customer execute SQL in the database's root context, crossing the privilege boundary between a cPanel account and the server's administrative database identity. It shipped in a targeted security release that closes two other routes past account boundaries. The database bug is tracked as CVE-2026-58048 (CVSS 4.0 score: 9.4) and affects all supported versions of cPanel & WHM, along with WP Squared. Reaching it requires a valid cPanel account and access to the MySQL/MariaDB feature. From there, the vendor says the account holder could execute arbitrary database commands with full administrative privileges. A now-patched vulnerability in Azure Cosmos DB could have let an attacker escape the service's Gremlin query sandbox and obtain full read and write access to databases across customer tenants, according to Wiz. Wiz , which codenamed the chain CosmosEscape , said the exploit chain began with a crafted query against a Gremlin database controlled by the attacker. From there, code execution on a multi-tenant gateway exposed a platform-wide signing secret and a regional account directory, allowing the researchers to locate a target and retrieve its primary account key. Microsoft blocked the vulnerable Gremlin entry point within 48 hours of the November 2025 report. Wiz said Microsoft completed the longer-term fix across all regions in July 2026 and eliminated the platform-wide key. Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a maximum-severity security flaw in Ruflo , an open-source agent meta-harness for Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, that could result in unauthenticated remote code execution. Someone installed a popular AI assistant on a rented server, switched off the setting that makes it ask permission before running risky commands, and pointed it at Thailand's Ministry of Finance, which runs the country's treasury and tax collection. The agent then worked through the ministry's network on its own, checking hosts for ways to gain root access, hunting through file systems, and crawling a folder of staff personnel records going back to 2012. Security firm Sysdig says it has found what it believes is the first ransomware attack run from start to finish by an AI agent. Its Threat Research Team calls the operator JADEPUFFER and says a large language model handled the whole job: breaking in, stealing credentials, moving deeper into the network, then encrypting and wiping a company's production database. Ransomware has always needed a skilled person somewhere in the loop, either at the keyboard or writing the script the malware follows. Redis has patched a use-after-free in its blocking-client code that lets an authenticated user run arbitrary OS commands on the machine hosting the database. The flaw was found by an autonomous AI tool built to hunt bugs in large codebases. Tracked as CVE-2026-23479 , the flaw was introduced in Redis 7.2.0 and remained in every stable branch until the May 5 fixes, unnoticed for over two years. NVD rates it 8.8 under CVSS 3.1; Redis lists it as 7.7 under CVSS 4.0. It was reported by Team Xint Code, and a complete technical  write-up is now public. The cloud footprint makes this worse. According to software supply chain security company Socket, the packages were published in 2023 and 2024 by a user named " shanhai666 " and are designed to run malicious code after specific trigger dates in August 2027 and November 2028. The packages were collectively downloaded 9,488 times. In January 2025, cybersecurity experts at Wiz Research found that Chinese AI specialist DeepSeek had suffered a data leak, putting more than 1 million sensitive log streams at risk. According to the Wiz Research team, they identified a publicly accessible ClickHouse database belonging to DeepSeek. This allowed “full control over database operations, including the ability to access internal data”, Wiz Research stated, with more than a million lines of log streams involved, containing chat history, secret keys and more. Exposed PostgreSQL instances are the target of an ongoing campaign designed to gain unauthorized access and deploy cryptocurrency miners. Cloud security firm Wiz said the activity is a variant of an intrusion set that was first flagged by Aqua Security in August 2024 that involved the use of a malware strain dubbed PG_MEM . The campaign has been attributed to a threat actor Wiz tracks as JINX-0126. Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a high-severity security flaw in the PostgreSQL open-source database system that could allow unprivileged users to alter environment variables, and potentially lead to code execution or information disclosure. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2024-10979 , carries a CVSS score of 8.8. Environment variables are user-defined values that can allow a program to dynamically fetch various kinds of information, such as access keys and software installation paths, during runtime without having to hard-code them.
