A newly disclosed zero-day flaw in GeoServer is seeing active exploitation efforts, per watchTowr. The vulnerability, which has yet to be assigned a CVE identifier, is an SQL injection vulnerability in the open-source platform that can lead to remote code execution (RCE). The security defect remains unpatched. It was first disclosed on August 12, 2026, at 10:46 UTC, by a researcher named @q1uf3ng on X. "GeoServer jsonArrayContains unauthorized SQL injection, and in the case of the sa database, it's naturally possible to achieve RCE," the researcher said. The threat intelligence and exposure management platform said it began to observe exploitation attempts within hours of public disclosure, and that it has seen hundreds of attempts originating from a small pool of IP addresses.  "Currently, we're seeing attackers probe to identify vulnerable systems across the internet, triggering errors and not proceeding further," Jake Knott, principal security r...
Lazarus Exploits Windows Zero-Day to Gain SYSTEM Access and Deploy Backdoor

Lazarus Exploits Windows Zero-Day to Gain SYSTEM Access and Deploy Backdoor

Aug 12, 2026 Vulnerability / Cyber Espionage
The North Korean threat actor known as Lazarus Group has been attributed to the zero-day exploitation of a newly patched security flaw impacting Microsoft Windows to deliver a never-before-seen backdoor targeting defense and aerospace companies across France, Germany, Brazil, and India. The activity, per Check Point Research, is part of Operation Dream Job , a long-running cyber espionage and social engineering campaign orchestrated by Pyongyang-backed hackers to target professionals worldwide with fake-but-compelling job offers at firms like Lockheed Martin and Enveil to steal sensitive data and install malware by approaching them on platforms like LinkedIn, pretending to be recruiters in an attempt to build trust. The attacks have been found to exploit CVE-2026-68820 (CVSS score: 7.0), a privilege escalation flaw affecting Windows Ancillary Function Driver for WinSock ("AFD.sys") that was patched by Microsoft as part of its Patch Tuesday updates for August 2026. ShieldBreak Zero-Day PoC Claims Microsoft Defender Patch Bypass With SYSTEM Access

Aug 12, 2026 Zero-Day / Vulnerability
The security researcher going by the name Chaotic Eclipse (aka INFINITE NIGHTMARE, MSNightmare, and Nightmare-Eclipse) has released a proof-of-concept (PoC) for a new Microsoft zero-day called ShieldBreak . The vulnerability, rooted in Microsoft Defender for Windows, demonstrates a patch bypass for CVE-2026-50656 (CVSS score: 7.8), otherwise known as RoguePlanet . RoguePlanet has been described as a race condition that, if successfully exploited, could grant an attacker the ability to spawn a shell with SYSTEM-level privileges, enabling them to run arbitrary code or perform unauthorized actions. Although it was first disclosed by the researcher in June 2026, a patch for the vulnerability was not released by Microsoft until almost a month later. The tech giant described it as a privilege escalation issue in the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine ("mpengine.dll"). Soon after, Chaotic Eclipse said the "defense-in-depth updates" introduced by Microsoft to ad...

Microsoft Patches 398 Flaws Including a Windows Driver Zero-Day Under Active Attack

Microsoft Patches 398 Flaws Including a Windows Driver Zero-Day Under Active Attack

Aug 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Windows Security
Microsoft released its monthly security updates on Tuesday, and one of the flaws it closed is already being used in attacks. The bug sits in a core Windows kernel driver that handles network socket operations. An attacker with code already running on a machine can use it to escalate to SYSTEM. That patch goes out first. The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-68820 (CVSS score: 7.0) and is the only one in this month's release Microsoft flags as under active exploitation. Exploitation depends on triggering a race condition in the driver. Microsoft has not publicly attributed the exploitation. Check Point Research says Lazarus used the zero-day in its Operation Dream Job campaign. Four other flaws in the release need nothing at all from the victim: no account, no password, no click. They affect Windows DNS Server, Windows Deployment Services, Microsoft's implementation of the QUIC transport protocol, and High Performance Computing (HPC) Pack, and each carries a CVSS score of 9.8....

JFrog Confirms OpenAI Models Exploited Artifactory Zero-Day Before Hugging Face Breach

JFrog Confirms OpenAI Models Exploited Artifactory Zero-Day Before Hugging Face Breach

Jul 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
JFrog has confirmed that OpenAI models exploited a zero-day in self-hosted Artifactory while trying to reach the open internet from a sealed evaluation environment. Artifactory is JFrog's software repository manager. OpenAI says the models then escalated privileges and moved laterally until they reached an internet-connected node. JFrog says it has since developed and released fixes for cloud and self-hosted customers. The Artifactory exploit occurred inside OpenAI's environment. OpenAI says a separate attack path later reached Hugging Face's systems. JFrog says its cloud customers are already protected. Self-hosted users should review the Artifactory release notes and move to the remediating build for their maintained branch. Several Artifactory CVE records were published on July 27 with affected-version ranges and fixed-version thresholds, but neither JFrog nor OpenAI has said whether any of those records correspond to the vulnerabilities used during the evaluati...

Fake Notepad++ Plugin Delivers MATCHBOIL.V2 in UAC-0099 Attacks

Jul 24, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Web Security
The Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA) has warned of a new campaign that involves the use of a malicious program that's dressed up as a Notepad++ plugin to compromise Windows systems. The activity has been attributed by the agency to a threat cluster it tracks as UAC-0099 , a Russia-aligned group that has previously observed weaponizing security flaws in WinRAR software to deliver a malware strain called LONEPAGE. Other cyber attacks mounted by the adversary have employed phishing emails as an initial access method to deploy MATCHBOIL, MATCHWOK, and DRAGSTARE. It's known to be active since at least mid-2022. The latest set of attacks begins, observed earlier this summer, with a phishing email containing an image attachment, which, when clicked, opens a URL that's concealed using a link shortener from where the request is sent to a file-sharing service like EasySend[.]co to retrieve a ZIP archive. The ZIP file contains a Visual Basic Script (VBSc...

Russian Espionage Group Exploited Zimbra Zero-Day to Steal Mail and 2FA Codes

Jul 23, 2026 Email Security / Vulnerability
A Russian state-supported espionage group spent months reading Western mailboxes through a then-unknown flaw in Zimbra's webmail client. The payload goes after the last 90 days of email, the organization's entire email directory, the password saved in the browser and the codes kept for two-factor recovery. Opening the message was enough to start it. The NSA , CISA and partner agencies published a joint advisory on the campaign Thursday, alongside research from Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 and Proofpoint. The advisory calls the technique "a view-based exploit that only requires a user to view a malicious email" in a vulnerable client. It says the actors have been targeting and compromising Western government and commercial organizations through Zimbra since at least July 2025. The flaw, CVE-2025-66376 , is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in Zimbra's Classic UI. A crafted HTML email abuses CSS @import handling to execute JavaScript inside a...

Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Jul 14, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Microsoft shipped its largest Patch Tuesday on record today, and two of the fixes close holes that attackers are already exploiting. The release covers 622 of Microsoft's own CVEs by its  Security Update Guide  count, more than triple  June's previous high of around 200 . Those two live bugs are the ones to grab first. Microsoft credits incident responders for both. Both are elevation-of-privilege flaws in identity and collaboration infrastructure: CVE-2026-56164 in on-premises SharePoint Server and CVE-2026-56155 in Active Directory Federation Services. Neither is one of the splashy remote code execution criticals. They are privilege bugs in two systems that matter more than their scores suggest: the company document store, and the box that signs its logins. The two zero-days to patch first CVE-2026-56164 , a SharePoint Server flaw Microsoft says is being exploited in attacks, lets an unauthenticated attacker escalate privileges over the ne...

FortiBleed Credential Theft Linked to INC and Lynx Ransomware Operations

Jul 02, 2026 Network Security / Ransomware
The recently discovered financially-motivated FortiBleed campaign has been attributed to INC and Lynx ransomware operations, indicating that the verified, stolen credentials were intended for follow-on intrusions. "An operator tied to FortiBleed's infrastructure was found actively working negotiation panels for both groups, tying mass FortiGate credential theft directly to ransomware deployment for the first time," SOCRadar said in a new report published Wednesday. The company said it tracked scanning activity against approximately 11,250 FortiGate portals in more than 150 countries, followed by confirmed admin-level access on 409 targets and successful completion of the full attack chain on 354 of them. In all, at least 12 ransomware deployments have resulted from this access, causing hundreds of endpoints to be encrypted across affected organizations. The large-scale credential-harvesting operation, which came to light last month, involved the threat actors sys...
