Elementor Pro Flaw Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Upload PHP and Execute Code

Elementor Pro Flaw Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Upload PHP and Execute Code

Aug 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a critical flaw in the Elementor Pro WordPress plugin that, if successfully exploited, could lead to remote code execution. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-32475 , carries a CVSS score of 9.0 out of 10.0. It has been described as a case of unrestricted upload of a file with a dangerous type. "The flaw lives in the Forms module's File Upload field, where the extension check and the file-move step run in two separate loops with different handling of empty file entries," Patchstack said . "By submitting two file parts for the same field, an unauthenticated attacker skips the extension blocklist entirely and writes a PHP file into a public directory." This discrepancy in how it validates the file's extension and moves the uploaded file to a public directory when empty file entries are processed turns a restricted file-upload field into an unauthenticated remote code execution primitive. Succes...

StopAndProtect Uses Nearly 2,000 Hacked WordPress Sites to Spread Malware and Steal Data

Aug 19, 2026 Website Security / Cybercrime
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a global cybercrime operation that abuses thousands of hacked WordPress websites as infrastructure to disseminate malware, commandeer infected hosts, store stolen documents, screenshots, and activity logs created to track the status of the activity. "The operation doesn't rely on a single piece of malware, but on a whole toolkit of criminal software working together – some components encrypt files, others silently steal documents or lock the screen, and another acts as a live chat between the attackers and their victims," Check Point Research's Jaromír Hořejší said . The large-scale campaign is being tracked by the cybersecurity company under the moniker StopAndProtect after discovering a ransomware family of the same name in mid-May 2026. The infection chain begins with a ClickFix social engineering attack, resulting in the execution of a PowerShell command that leads to the deployment of additional .NET downloaders and l...

Forminator WordPress Flaw Can Enable Unauthenticated RCE via Malicious PHP Uploads

Aug 17, 2026 Vulnerability / Website Security
A critical security flaw has been disclosed in Forminator Forms, a WordPress plugin with more than 600,000 active installations, that could be exploited to achieve arbitrary code execution on susceptible sites. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-15748 , is rated 9.8 out of 10.0 on the CVSS scoring system. It was discovered and reported by a security researcher who goes by the online alias "daroo." "This vulnerability makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload arbitrary files, including executable PHP files, to a vulnerable site, which can lead to remote code execution and complete site compromise," Wordfence said in a report published today. That said, a key prerequisite for successful exploitation is that the sites must have a form containing both a File Upload field and a Select field. The vulnerability impacts all versions of the plugin before and including 1.56.1. It has been addressed in version 1.56.2 released on July 31, 2026. Pe...

Public Exploit Released for Patched vBulletin Pre-Auth Code Execution Flaw

Public Exploit Released for Patched vBulletin Pre-Auth Code Execution Flaw

Jul 27, 2026 Vulnerability / Website Security
Public exploit details released on July 27 show how an unauthenticated request can reach PHP's eval() function inside vBulletin and execute code on an unpatched forum server. The attack requires no account, administrative access, or interaction from another user. SSD Secure Disclosure lists vBulletin 6.2.1 and earlier, and 6.1.6 and earlier, as affected, but does not give a lower version boundary. vBulletin issued security patches for 6.2.1, 6.2.0, and 6.1.6 at the end of June and released the fixed version 6.2.2 on July 1, nearly four weeks before the exploit went public Administrators running self-hosted installations should apply the patch for their branch or upgrade to 6.2.2. vBulletin says its Cloud sites have already been patched against the flaw. SSD did not report active exploitation. As of July 27, 2026, no source had confirmed in-the-wild attacks, and CVE-2026-61511 was not listed in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The company published an int...

UAC-0145 Uses ClickFix CAPTCHAs to Infect Ukrainian Devices wih Malware

Jul 19, 2026 Malware / Cyber Warfare
Russian state-sponsored threat actors have been observed leveraging the infamous ClickFix strategy to trick Ukrainian targets into infecting their own machines with data-stealing malware. According to the Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA), the activity has been attributed to UAC-0145 , a sub-cluster within Sandworm , an advanced hacking unit affiliated with GRU, Russia's primary foreign military intelligence agency. In these attacks, threat actors have been found to leverage fake CAPTCHA checks on compromised websites that instruct prospective targets to execute a PowerShell command in the terminal. "The mentioned command, as an example, could be intended for downloading and saving a VBS file in the Startup autorun directory; one of the variants of such a program was called GHETTOVIBE," CERT-UA said in an alert. The attacks also involve the use of SCOUTCURL, a PowerShell script that performs basic reconnaissance by harvesting details about t...

20+ Hijacked Government Websites Became
an Attack Channel

Jul 16, 2026 Malware / Endpoint Security
More than 20 Brazilian government websites were hijacked and turned into malware delivery channels in an active PhantomEnigma campaign uncovered by ANY.RUN , a leading provider of interactive malware analysis and threat intelligence solutions. The investigation revealed previously undocumented backdoor behavior, hidden infrastructure relationships, and multiple attack arms behind a campaign putting banks and public agencies at risk. By connecting hundreds of seemingly unrelated sandbox sessions, ANY.RUN researchers exposed the operation’s broader scope and showed how trusted .gov.br links and authenticated emails helped the activity remain hidden. For the complete technical analysis, infrastructure details, indicators, and detection guidance, read the full PhantomEnigma investigation report Trusted Government Infrastructure Became the Lure The attack began with fake police-themed documents presented as official “Ofício Polícia Civil” or “Procuração Digital” notices. Exposed Hacker Server Reveals WP-SHELLSTORM Backdooring Thousands of WordPress Sites

Exposed Hacker Server Reveals WP-SHELLSTORM Backdooring Thousands of WordPress Sites

Jul 10, 2026 Cybercrime / Website Security
A cybercrime crew left one of its own servers wide open on the internet for three weeks, and it exposed the operation's inner workings: the hacking tools, the activity logs, and target lists naming more than 1.4 million websites. Far fewer were actually broken into, but the exposed files showed researchers how a mass site-hacking operation runs from the inside. The operation, now tracked as WP-SHELLSTORM , is what  SOCRadar  calls a webshell access brokerage: a crew that breaks into sites at scale, plants a hidden backdoor (a "webshell") on each, and packages that access for resale. The strongest activity hit WordPress sites running out-of-date plugins. If you run WordPress or Joomla, the two flaws that mattered most were in the Breeze caching plugin and Joomla's JCE editor; skip to the checklist below if that's you. A forgotten server Two teams dug into the same exposed folder. SOCRadar's threat intelligence team spotted it on June 11, 2026, on a U...
Popular WordPress Plugin Scripts Tampered to Plant Hidden Backdoors on Sites

Popular WordPress Plugin Scripts Tampered to Plant Hidden Backdoors on Sites

Jun 15, 2026 Web Security / Supply Chain Attack
An attacker tampered with trusted JavaScript files used by WordPress sites running PushEngage , OptinMonster , and TrustPulse , turning those files into a way to break into the sites. When a site administrator was logged in as the file loaded, the code created an admin account under the attacker's control and installed a hidden plugin that opened a way back in. Ordinary visitors did not trigger it. Any site that was hit should be treated as compromised. All three plugins are run by one company, Awesome Motive, which had not commented on the two larger plugins as of June 15. Security firm Sansec disclosed the wider campaign on June 13, finding the same malicious code in JavaScript served for all three plugins. PushEngage followed a day later with its own incident notice , confirming an attacker had served tampered copies of its script and that sites loading them could be taken over. PushEngage, acquired by Awesome Motive years ago, is so far the only one of the three to ...

Jun 01, 2026 Vulnerability / Website Security,
Threat actors are attempting to actively exploit a critical security flaw impacting WP Maps Pro , a WordPress plugin that has had over 15,000 sales on the Envato Market, to create malicious administrator accounts on susceptible sites. WP Maps Pro allows site owners to embed customizable Google Maps and OpenStreetMap with markers, listings, and advanced location features on WordPress sites. It is used as a store locator tool, making it easier for users to find nearby locations, view listing details, and get directions. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-8732 (CVSS score: 9.8), a privilege escalation bug that allows unauthenticated attackers to create a WordPress user with administrative permissions, effectively allowing them to take control of a site. The shortcoming impacts all versions of the plugin prior to and including 6.1.0. It has been addressed in version 6.1.1. Security researcher David Brown has been credited with discovering and reporting the flaw. At a high ...
