Official Claude Code Extension on Cursor Marketplace Trojanized with Persistent SSH Backdoor

Official Claude Code Extension on Cursor Marketplace Trojanized with Persistent SSH Backdoor

окт. 30, 2026 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed that a trojanized version of Anthropic's official Claude Code extension was distributed through the Cursor Marketplace as a legitimate update, attempting to install a persistent SSH backdoor on affected systems. The malicious update, version 2.1.313, was distributed under the extension's legitimate publisher identity, prompting Cursor to temporarily shut down its marketplace to remove the compromised package. The exact method attackers used to introduce the unauthorized update remains unclear. "We identified a security incident affecting a modified Claude Code VS Code extension accessed through our Cursor IDE extension marketplace, impacting at most 5,000 users," Cursor said . "This malicious version of the extension was not developed by Anthropic. It does not impact other extensions downloaded from the cursor[.]com/marketplace, Grok Bot, Grok, or our other SpaceXSI product. However, Cursor's statement that the...

One of the core focus areas is cybersecurity, where the latest iteration reportedly delivers significant performance improvements across the board, including vulnerability detection, validation, and remediation. Carbon is also twice as likely to generate secure code ver...
Attacker Tried to Exploit Alpine Linux’s GitLab via CVSS 10.0 Flaw Its Ruby Left Open

Attacker Tried to Exploit Alpine Linux’s GitLab via CVSS 10.0 Flaw Its Ruby Left Open

окт. 29, 2026 Vulnerability / Cyber Attack
An attacker tried to exploit a critical GitLab vulnerability on the Alpine Linux project's own GitLab server a week after GitLab  released a fix , Alpine Linux  said  on 28 October. The flaw, CVE-2026-97229 (CVSS score: 10.0), can let an attacker run code on a GitLab server through a crafted regular expression in a CI configuration. Alpine found no evidence that the attack worked but cannot rule it out, so it rebuilt the server from scratch and reset every account's password. GitLab's fix  is a set of patches to the Ruby that GitLab ships in its own packages and container images. Alpine's GitLab image used standard Ruby, so upgrading the server to GitLab 19.3.6 on 22 October did not fix the flaw. For anyone running GitLab on their own Ruby, built from source or in their own container image, "upgrading GitLab is not enough," Alpine said. Those servers also need  Ruby 3.3.13, 3.4.12, 4.0.9 or later , and users of Alpine's alpinelinux/gitlab image...

Adobe Commerce PolyShell Attacks Breach Hundreds of Stores as Brotli Exploit Traffic Emerges

окт. 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Tuesday added two vulnerabilities impacting Adobe Commerce and Magento, and Google's Brotli decoder library to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, citing evidence of active exploitation. The vulnerabilities are listed below - CVE-2026-111497 (CVSS score: 9.2) - An unchecked return value vulnerability in Google Brotli that could allow a remote unauthenticated attacker to corrupt adjacent decoder state memory, disclose sensitive memory contents, cause a denial-of-service, or potentially execute arbitrary code using a crafted Brotli-compressed stream. CVE-2026-48356 (CVSS score: 9.3) - An unrestricted upload of a file with dangerous type vulnerability in Adobe Commerce and Magento that could result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user, potentially gaining elevated access or control over the victim's account or session. The development comes days after Sans...

Apple Backports Fix for Exploited CoreGraphics Flaw to Older iPhones and iPads

окт. 27, 2026 Vulnerability / Mobile Security
Apple on Monday backported fixes for a high-severity security flaw that was exploited in real-world cyber attacks to older devices. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-86950 (CVSS score: 8.8), is an out-of-bounds write affecting CoreGraphics that could result in arbitrary code execution when processing a maliciously crafted file. Patches for the flaw were released last month by Apple in versions iOS 26.7.1, iPadOS 26.7.1, macOS Tahoe 26.7.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1, acknowledging that it may have been exploited in sophisticated attacks against specific individuals using devices running iOS before iOS 27. The fixes have now been expanded to include iOS 18.7.11 and iPadOS 18.7.11, which support iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPad 7th generation, iPad Air 4th generation and later, iPad 9th generation and later, and iPad mini 6th generation and later. "Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against ...
CISA Confirms Active Exploitation of Two PHP2Shell Flaws Enabling Remote Code Execution

CISA Confirms Active Exploitation of Two PHP2Shell Flaws Enabling Remote Code Execution

окт. 27, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Monday confirmed active exploitation of the recently patched PHP2Shell flaws by adding them to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog. The PHP vulnerabilities, both rated 9.2 on the CVSS scoring system, facilitate unauthenticated remote code execution on affected deployments - CVE-2026-109618 - An out-of-memory corruption vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution. CVE-2026-109619 - A stale internal request-state vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution. The addition of the two flaws to the KEV catalog comes after Adel Karimi, detection and response lead at Perplexity, confirmed successful instances of remote code execution against honeypot systems on October 24, 2026. "This is now confirmed RCE with usable memory disclosure, not just a crash followed by a suspicious process," Karimi said . "The response delivered an 800 ...
PHP Issues Second Windows Security Update in Five Days to Fix Brotli Code Execution Flaw

PHP Issues Second Windows Security Update in Five Days to Fix Brotli Code Execution Flaw

окт. 26, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
PHP has rebuilt its official Windows packages for PHP 8.2 through 8.5 to fix CVE-2026-111497 , a flaw in the Brotli compression library that the packages include. The flaw can let an attacker corrupt memory and potentially run code. PHP says the flaw can be reached through the cURL extension when the extension decompresses HTTP responses automatically. cURL leaves that off by default, but applications and HTTP client libraries can turn it on. The rebuilt packages, numbered 8.5.12-1 , 8.4.27-1 , 8.3.36-1 and 8.2.35-1 , come five days after the October 21 releases that fixed the two PHP2Shell remote code execution flaws . They use the same PHP source, so those fixes stay in place, and they now include Brotli 1.2.1 , the fixed version. PHP publishes a software bill of materials , a list of the components inside, with each package. For last week's x64 Non Thread Safe builds of all four versions, those lists show Brotli 1.2.0, one of the affected versions. PHP advises Windows...
Two Critical Wasmtime Flaws Could Let Malicious WebAssembly Modules Escape Sandboxes

Two Critical Wasmtime Flaws Could Let Malicious WebAssembly Modules Escape Sandboxes

окт. 26, 2026 Vulnerability / Software Security
Two critical flaws in  Wasmtime , a WebAssembly runtime that can be built into other software, could allow a malicious WebAssembly module to escape the sandbox intended to contain it, the project's maintainers say. An attacker would first need a vulnerable Wasmtime build to compile a module they control, and one of the flaws affects only ARM64 systems. Fixed versions were released on October 19 and 20, and the maintainers have not reported any attacks. Wasmtime runs WebAssembly code outside web browsers. Both bugs are in Cranelift, the compiler it uses by default to turn WebAssembly into machine code. Wasmtime's maintainers at the Bytecode Alliance rated each flaw 9.9 out of 10 on the CVSS scale in advisories published on October 19. CVE-2026-115889  affects Wasmtime across all processor architectures. CVE-2026-115893  affects only ARM64, also called aarch64. The sandbox is meant to keep a module inside set limits. A module can only use its own memory and...
Brotli Decoder Flaw Behind Node.js RCE Also Affects Bun, Python and Other Widely Used Software

Brotli Decoder Flaw Behind Node.js RCE Also Affects Bun, Python and Other Widely Used Software

окт. 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
A memory-corruption flaw in Google's Brotli decoder sits in many programs that unpack Brotli-compressed data, among them Bun, Microsoft's .NET, the Python Brotli and brotlicffi packages, and Envoy proxies set up to decompress Brotli. Tracked as  CVE-2026-111497 , the flaw allows crafted compressed data to overwrite past the end of a buffer and corrupt a program's memory, potentially causing a crash, a memory leak, or the execution of attacker-controlled code. Imperva researchers have shown that code can run on one unpatched Node.js build . The same has not been demonstrated on the other software, and no real-world attacks have been reported. The flaw was  first disclosed on October 21 , when Node.js and Google shipped fixes, and more have followed product by product since. Because the bug is in Google's decoder and each program ships its own copy of it, every one has to update that copy on its own. Brotli is a compression format from Google, used ...
Researchers Push Over 2 Million Updates to Remotely Disable Popcorn Time Updater That Could Fuel a Botnet

Researchers Push Over 2 Million Updates to Remotely Disable Popcorn Time Updater That Could Fuel a Botnet

окт. 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Endpoint Security
Between November 2025 and March 2026, the Dutch security firm Eye Security pushed more than 2 million updates to computers it did not own to switch off a background updater that it said could have allowed an outsider to take over the machine. The updater belongs to Time4Popcorn , an abandoned copy of Popcorn Time, a free app that streamed pirated films and TV over BitTorrent. Popcorn Time was popular about a decade ago, and the original shut down in 2014, but several copies kept running under the same name. A separate, legal project that took the Popcorn Time name in early 2025 is unrelated to it. Eye Security, which monitors client networks for threats, found the updater during a routine threat hunt: a program called Updater.exe on one client's laptop kept trying to reach a web address that was no longer registered. The firm registered the address itself to see what would connect, and about 50 requests a second poured in. It later laid out the operation, which it named O...
Ruby Fixes Three Regex Engine Bugs Responsible for Four Critical GitLab RCE Flaws

Ruby Fixes Three Regex Engine Bugs Responsible for Four Critical GitLab RCE Flaws

окт. 23, 2026 Vulnerability / Software Security
Ruby has released versions 4.0.9, 3.4.12, and 3.3.13 to fix three bugs in Onigmo, the regular expression engine built into the language. The bugs lie behind four critical security flaws that GitLab patched over the past month. GitLab found that a specially crafted pattern could corrupt memory while Ruby compiles it, potentially leading to code execution on its own servers. Ruby says any application that builds a regular expression from text an attacker controls is affected, not just GitLab. Which Applications Are Affected In  its advisory , Ruby said an application is affected only if it compiles a regular expression from a string an attacker controls. That happens when a program passes such a string to Regexp.new, Regexp.union or Regexp.compile, or places it inside a pattern through interpolation, as in /#{input}/. Applications that only use regular expressions written by their own developers are not affected. Ruby fixed the bugs in 4.0.9, 3.4.12, and 3.3.13. The...
Critical Flaw in Python’s Popular Pillow Image Library Allows Code Execution via a Crafted Image

Critical Flaw in Python’s Popular Pillow Image Library Allows Code Execution via a Crafted Image

окт. 23, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Pillow , the most widely used image library for Python, can be made to run operating system commands on a server by specifying the name of a file it is told to open. The flaw,  CVE-2026-112900 , is in the way Pillow handles EPS images, which it opens by passing the file's name to Ghostscript , a separate program it runs to turn the image into pixels, without checking the name first. Ghostscript can read a name chosen by an attacker as instructions rather than as a file, and point it to a second file that carries commands to run. Pillow's maintainers fixed it in  version 13.0.0 , released on October 16. Pillow turns up almost everywhere Python handles images: web upload forms, avatar and thumbnail tools, document and PDF pipelines, and most machine-learning projects pull it in. OX Security, the firm whose report drew attention to the flaws, estimates the library is downloaded  about 436 million times a month . Version 13.0.0 is a large security release, with fixes...
Critical GitLab Flaw (CVSS 10.0) Could Allow Unauthenticated RCE Across 12 Years of Releases

Critical GitLab Flaw (CVSS 10.0) Could Allow Unauthenticated RCE Across 12 Years of Releases

окт. 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Software Security
GitLab released fixes on October 21 for a flaw that lets an attacker run code on a self-managed server without logging in, and it affects every version of the software going back to 7.0, released in 2014. The fix matters even for administrators who patched nine days earlier: the October 12 update covered only versions 19.2 and later, and the new fixed versions sit one patch above it, so an instance updated then is in range again. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2026-110264 , is rated 10.0 on the CVSS scale, the maximum. GitLab says that, under certain conditions, it could allow an unauthenticated user to run arbitrary code on the server due to an integer overflow during the compilation of a specially crafted regular expression. GitLab has not said what those conditions are. The company reports no sign the flaw has been used in attacks, and it is not listed in the U.S. CISA catalog of known exploited vulnerabilities as of October 22. Only self-managed installations need to act. G...
LiteLLM Compromised in Supply Chain Attack Delivering Credential Stealer and Backdoor

LiteLLM Compromised in Supply Chain Attack Delivering Credential Stealer and Backdoor

окт. 21, 2026 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
The popular LiteLLM Python package has been compromised as part of a software supply chain attack that delivered a credential stealer and a backdoor, according to reports from SafeDep , Socket , StepSecurity , and Upwind . The compromise affects LiteLLM 1.107.0, distributed through PyPI wheels and Docker images. The Python package has since been quarantined on Python Package Index (PyPI), and the malicious Docker images have been removed. Oliver Jensen, director of security at LiteLLM, said an investigation into the incident is ongoing, and that it's still working to trace the original attack vector by which the threat actor published the malicious release. "We have identified that the malicious actions were taken through three engineers' GitHub accounts, appearing to be by way of stolen GitHub CLI OAuth tokens," Jensen said . "The threat actor used one user's account to trigger the project-releaser run, and another user's account to approve it. A...

PHP2Shell: Two Unpatched Critical PHP RCE Flaws (CVSS 9.2) Trigger Emergency Security Alert

окт. 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
This story is developing and was written before PHP's scheduled 14:00 UTC release on October 21. Once the release is out, the affected and fixed versions below are confirmed by the official advisory. PHP will ship an out-of-cycle security release at 14:00 UTC today, October 21, for two critical vulnerabilities that its security team has rated 9.2 on the CVSS v4.0 scale but has not described. ⚡ WARNING — PHP Warns of Another Unpatched RCE Flaw CVE-2026-115560 Security researchers at watchTowr say the two flaws allow remote code execution. Only the four supported PHP branches, 8.2 through 8.5, can receive the fix, and no exploitation has been reported so far. The  advance notice  followed a leak. On October 20, a  post on HN  said two PHP remote code execution flaws, rated CVSS 10.0 and affecting versions from PHP 5 onward, would be disclosed on Thursday, October 22. The poster said they had "no evidence beyond 'source: trust me, bro'". watchTowr then pos...
Eight eMudhra CA Keys Compromised, Triggering Emergency Fixes Across Browsers and Software

Eight eMudhra CA Keys Compromised, Triggering Emergency Fixes Across Browsers and Software

окт. 20, 2026 Web Security / Browser Security
The private keys of eight eMudhra intermediate certificate authority (CA) certificates are compromised,  Mozilla  and  Google's Chrome Root Program  confirms on October 20. An intermediate CA signs the certificates that websites present, so anyone holding one of these keys could issue a certificate for any website that a browser would accept. A researcher reported the compromise to the root programs on the evening of October 17, and Chrome and Firefox blocked the eight certificates within hours, after Chrome verified the findings. No TLS certificate chaining to the six intermediates used for websites had been logged to  Certificate Transparency  (CT) before Chrome's block, so none could have been trusted by default in Chrome or any other browser that requires CT logging, the Chrome Root Program said. The keys did not have to be stolen. They were generated with too little randomness, so anyone can compute them from the public certificates,  Goo...
Go Issues Emergency Update Blocking Eight CA Keys Over Undisclosed Security Concerns

Go Issues Emergency Update Blocking Eight CA Keys Over Undisclosed Security Concerns

окт. 20, 2026 Encryption / Software Security
Go 1.27.3 and Go 1.26.10, released on October 20, make Go's certificate verifier reject any certificate chain that passes through one of  eight intermediate certificate authority keys. Programs built on the new release will refuse connections to sites and services whose certificates were issued under those keys. The Go team says the keys belong to one certificate authority it has not named, and that it is blocking them because of "specific security concerns around their operation." It handled the fix on its  URGENT track , the one reserved for its most serious issues, and recommends upgrading immediately. Two days earlier, on October 17, Mozilla added six intermediate certificates issued by eMudhra's emSign Root TLS CA - G3 to  OneCRL , the list Firefox uses to block certificates. The Mozilla bug behind those entries is  closed to the public , and neither Mozilla nor Go has said what prompted its action. Whether Chrome, Apple, or Microsoft have taken simil...

Google Rolls Out Gemini 4 Argon to Trusted Cyber Defenders, Plans Guardrail-Free Version

окт. 01, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / AI Safety
Google on Wednesday announced its latest frontier artificial intelligence (AI) model, Gemini 4 Argon , that it said is being rolled out to a set of trusted cyber defenders through its Fairwind Program. "It delivers frontier performance in complex workflows across real-world software engineering, enterprise knowledge work like legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense," Koray Kavukcuoglu, senior vice president of Google DeepMind and Chief AI Architect at Google, said . The development comes nearly a month after the tech giant unveiled Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber , which it described as the most capable cybersecurity model. Like similar models from rivals Anthropic and OpenAI, Argon is assessed to be highly capable at autonomously finding, validating, and patching critical software vulnerabilities. This includes a previously unknown critical vulnerability exposing sensitive personal information across healthcare software used by hospitals worldwide. Google did not reveal...
Attacker Hijacks AI Coding Assistant Session, Spreads Shai-Hulud Across About 100 Repositories

Attacker Hijacks AI Coding Assistant Session, Spreads Shai-Hulud Across About 100 Repositories

сент. 16, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Software Security
Mandiant says an attacker hijacked an active AI coding-assistant session at an unnamed software-as-a-service provider and later spread  Shai-Hulud  across about 100 internal code repositories. Before the repository spread, the assistant recommended software that the attacker had poisoned, and the recommendation was accepted. The worm stole repository secrets and source code for the company's products. The case appears in  Mandiant's September 2026 report . The public case study does not say when the intrusion happened or how the attacker took over the active coding-assistant session. How the Attack Unfolded After the recommendation was accepted, the attacker used the developer's active session to install an infostealer through a poisoned PyPI package. The attacker also stole GitHub OAuth tokens. The attacker then deployed the self-spreading Shai-Hulud worm across approximately 100 internal code repositories. The attacker also poisoned a package in the company...

Plex Urges Immediate Updates After Patching Multiple Undisclosed Security Flaws

сент. 04, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
Plex is urging users to update their instances to the latest version following the release of an update that patches multiple security flaws. The fixes are available in Plex Media Server 1.43.3 and Plex Desktop 1.115.0. The streaming media service did not elaborate on what those issues are, but said CVE identifiers have been requested for them. "We recommend all server owners and Desktop users update to the latest version as soon as possible," Plex said in an announcement this week. "If you're running Plex Media Server on a NAS device, the updated version may not be available in their package manager yet, but you can install the package manually." In August 2025, Plex addressed a high-severity security flaw ( CVE-2025-34158 , CVSS score: 8.5), an authentication bug that stemmed from the "/myplex/account" endpoint incorrectly exposing the server owner's account details, including their administrative access token, even when accessed by any...
