Hackers Weaponize Visual Studio Code Remote Tunnels for Cyber Espionage

Hackers Weaponize Visual Studio Code Remote Tunnels for Cyber Espionage

Dec 10, 2024 Cyber Espionage / Hacking News
A suspected China-nexus cyber espionage group has been attributed to an attacks targeting large business-to-business IT service providers in Southern Europe as part of a campaign codenamed Operation Digital Eye . The intrusions took place from late June to mid-July 2024, cybersecurity companies SentinelOne SentinelLabs and Tinexta Cyber said in a joint report shared with The Hacker News, adding the activities were detected and neutralized before they could progress to the data exfiltration phase. "The intrusions could have enabled the adversaries to establish strategic footholds and compromise downstream entities," security researchers Aleksandar Milenkoski and Luigi Martire said . "The threat actors abused Visual Studio Code and Microsoft Azure infrastructure for C2 [command-and-control] purposes, attempting to evade detection by making malicious activities appear legitimate." It's currently not known which China-linked hacking group is behind the attacks,...

Agent Racoon Backdoor Targets Organizations in Middle East, Africa, and U.S.

Dec 02, 2023
Organizations in the Middle East, Africa, and the U.S. have been targeted by an unknown threat actor to distribute a new backdoor called  Agent Racoon . "This malware family is written using the .NET framework and leverages the domain name service (DNS) protocol to create a covert channel and provide different backdoor functionalities," Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 researcher Chema Garcia  said  in a Friday analysis. Targets of the attacks span various sectors such as education, real estate, retail, non-profits, telecom, and governments. The activity has not been attributed to a known threat actor, although it's assessed to be nation-state aligned owing to the victimology pattern and the detection and defense evasion techniques used. The cybersecurity firm is tracking the cluster under the moniker CL-STA-0002. It's currently not clear how these organizations were breached, and when the attacks took place. Some of the other tools deployed by the adversary include a...
5 Identity Threat Detection & Response Must-Haves for Super SaaS Security

5 Identity Threat Detection & Response Must-Haves for Super SaaS Security

Mar 19, 2025SaaS Security / Threat Detection
Identity-based attacks are on the rise. Attackers are targeting identities with compromised credentials, hijacked authentication methods, and misused privileges. While many threat detection solutions focus on cloud, endpoint, and network threats, they overlook the unique risks posed by SaaS identity ecosystems. This blind spot is wreaking havoc on heavily SaaS-reliant organizations big and small. The question is, what can security teams do about it? Have no fear, because Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) is here to save the day. It's essential to have the visibility and response mechanisms to stop attacks before they become breaches. Here's the super lineup that every team needs to stop SaaS identity threats. #1 Full coverage: cover every angle  Like Cap's shield, this defense should cover every angle. Traditional threat detection tools such as XDRs and EDRs fail to cover SaaS applications and leave organizations vulnerable. SaaS identity threat detection and re...
