New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing-Resistant MFA

New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing-Resistant MFA

Aug 10, 2026 Identity Security / Endpoint Security
Three separate research efforts last week demonstrated ways to defeat passkey protections without breaking the cryptography they rest on. Passkeys are designed to replace reusable passwords and resist phishing. The attacks instead reused signed authentication material that Windows had exposed, abused a cloud-synced passkey system from malware already on the victim's machine, and used a  Windows Hello for Business  key from a compromised user session without a fresh PIN or biometric check. None cracked the math. The impact is not the same in all three cases. SpecterOps showed a Windows and Microsoft Entra ID chain that could impersonate privileged users while satisfying phishing-resistant multifactor authentication (MFA); that chain reused signed authentication material rather than stealing the authenticator's private key. Unit 42 showed attacks against  Google Password Manager in Chrome , including a path that recovers the private keys for a victim's synced p...
UNC6671 Vishing Attacks Target Personal Phones to Steal SaaS Data

UNC6671 Vishing Attacks Target Personal Phones to Steal SaaS Data

Aug 07, 2026 Phishing / SaaS Security
A recent wave of cyber attacks targeting financial services, private equity, and professional services has been attributed to a data extortion group known as UNC6671 . "UNC6671 continues to rely on voice phishing (vishing) to target enterprise employees, posing as IT help desk staff facilitating mandatory, urgent security migrations. Significantly, the threat actor often contacts employees via their personal mobile devices," Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) and Mandiant said in a report. These calls are designed to trick victims into spoofed login portals where adversary-in-the-middle (AitM) infrastructure intercepts credentials and multi-factor authentication (MFA) tokens. The threat actors then leverage the captured data to establish session persistence and deploy automated Python and PowerShell scripts for data exfiltration from enterprise cloud environments and SaaS applications, including Microsoft 365 and Okta. According to the tech giant, UNC6671 has d...
New NatJack Attacks Hijack TCP Sessions and Spoof DNS by Manipulating NAT Tables

New NatJack Attacks Hijack TCP Sessions and Spoof DNS by Manipulating NAT Tables

Aug 07, 2026 Network Security / Vulnerability
Security researcher Malcolm Stagg has disclosed a new attack class called  NatJack  that manipulates network address translation (NAT) connection state to hijack active TCP sessions, spoof DNS responses, expose mapped ports, and exhaust NAT tables. Presented at Black Hat USA 2026 , the research found affected behavior across independently developed implementations, including Windows and Linux. Two implementation-specific flaws have been assigned CVEs:  CVE-2026-56181  (CVSS score: 8.3) in Windows NAT used by Hyper-V, and  CVE-2026-63913  (CVSS score: 8.2) in Linux Netfilter conntrack. NatJack generally requires the attacker to have privileged access to a system behind the same NAT as the victim. The mitigation guidance therefore emphasizes separating untrusted workloads from trusted systems that share NAT infrastructure. There is no single patch for the broader attack class. Organizations should apply available Windows and Linux updates and encryp...

Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Aug 07, 2026 Endpoint Security / Vulnerability
Entra ID researcher Dirk-jan Mollema demonstrated that malware already running in a signed-in Windows session can silently use the victim's Windows Hello for Business key to authenticate to Microsoft Entra ID. The attacker can then establish longer-term cloud access, register a device it controls, obtain a Primary Refresh Token (PRT), and add further authentication methods where tenant policies permit. On TPM-backed systems, the attacker does not extract the private key, recover the PIN, or trigger a biometric prompt. Windows ticketing keeps private-key operations available while the user is interactively signed in, allowing code running as the user to ask Windows to sign authentication data. Administrator privileges are not required. The technique requires code execution in the victim's signed-in session. Mollema describes the behavior as a consequence of how Windows Hello for Business works and says it was left as-is. The disclosure does not report active exploitatio...
Kali365 Weaponizes Microsoft Authentication Against US Companies: New Enterprise Risk

Kali365 Weaponizes Microsoft Authentication Against US Companies: New Enterprise Risk

Aug 05, 2026 Phishing / Identity Security
Kali365 is turning a legitimate Microsoft login into a gateway to corporate data. The phishing kit targets US organizations with attacker-controlled device codes that victims approve on Microsoft's real authentication page. Once access and refresh tokens are issued, attackers may retain access to email, documents, and cloud resources, creating a direct path to data exposure, financial fraud, operational disruption, and costly incident response. How Kali365 Targets US Organizations Kali365 is a device code phishing kit built to abuse legitimate Microsoft authentication. ANY.RUN telemetry records more than 80 public sessions linked to the campaign each week, with the United States emerging as its main geographic target. One of these sandbox sessions shows a SharePoint-themed lure used to draw the victim into the authentication flow. View the analysis session and gather IOCs SharePoint-themed Kali365 lure analyzed inside ANY.RUN’s Interactive Sandbox Based on the resear...
PNLD Breach Exposes U.K. Police and Government Contact Details on Dark Web

PNLD Breach Exposes U.K. Police and Government Contact Details on Dark Web

Aug 03, 2026 Data Breach / Dark Web
The Police National Legal Database (PNLD) has confirmed that police, government and customer contact information was compromised and published on the dark web. The data included names, organisations and work email addresses belonging to police officers, police staff, criminal justice professionals, government partners and customers. The incident, identified on July 26, also exposed some names and email addresses belonging to people who had submitted questions through Ask the Police. That exposure could make phishing messages targeting named officers appear more convincing, according to UK government guidance . PNLD said, "There is no evidence to suggest that passwords or other security credentials have been compromised." The service provides legal information, products and services to UK police forces and criminal justice organisations. It is not the Police National Computer or the Police National Database, is not a crime-recording system, and does not hold confidentia...
Hijacked Hotel Wi-Fi Pushes Fake Updates to Deliver Surveillance Malware

Hijacked Hotel Wi-Fi Pushes Fake Updates to Deliver Surveillance Malware

Aug 01, 2026 Malware / Cyber Espionage
A fake browser update served over hijacked hotel Wi-Fi has been used to deliver CornFlake , a remote access trojan (RAT) that can capture webcam images, microphone audio, and keystrokes, Microsoft said in its latest report. Researchers track the operation as CaptiveCrunch and attribute it to Storm-2945 . It assesses Storm-2945 to be an operational sub-cluster of Midnight Blizzard , also known as APT29 and Cozy Bear. The U.S. and U.K. governments attribute the broader actor to Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR). On the compromised networks ReliaQuest investigated, the captive portal gateway also served as the DNS resolver assigned to connected devices. Administrative control of that gateway let the attackers forge Domain Name System (DNS) answers and redirect the resulting traffic. They could then redirect a laptop's automatic connectivity check to a fake browser or operating system update. Some pages use ClickFix instructions that tell victims to open a termina...
Azure Cosmos DB Flaw Exposed Platform-Wide Key That Could Access Any Database

Azure Cosmos DB Flaw Exposed Platform-Wide Key That Could Access Any Database

Jul 30, 2026 Vulnerability / Cloud Security
A now-patched vulnerability in Azure Cosmos DB could have let an attacker escape the service's Gremlin query sandbox and obtain full read and write access to databases across customer tenants, according to Wiz. Wiz , which codenamed the chain CosmosEscape , said the exploit chain began with a crafted query against a Gremlin database controlled by the attacker. From there, code execution on a multi-tenant gateway exposed a platform-wide signing secret and a regional account directory, allowing the researchers to locate a target and retrieve its primary account key. Microsoft blocked the vulnerable Gremlin entry point within 48 hours of the November 2025 report. Wiz said Microsoft completed the longer-term fix across all regions in July 2026 and eliminated the platform-wide key. "We appreciate Wiz's work in identifying and reporting this issue through coordinated vulnerability disclosure," a Microsoft spokesperson told The Hacker News. "We have fully addres...
Microsoft Copilot for Word Can Copy Hidden Prompts Into New Documents

Microsoft Copilot for Word Can Copy Hidden Prompts Into New Documents

Jul 30, 2026 Vulnerability / AI Security
Hidden instructions in a Word document can make Microsoft 365 Copilot rewrite figures in a report, then copy the same instructions into the finished file. Håkon Måløy disclosed the technique on July 28, 144 days after reporting it to Microsoft. In his proof of concept, the internally generated file triggered the same behavior when it was used in a second Copilot drafting session. Måløy's timeline says Microsoft confirmed the reported behavior on March 31 and deployed two mitigations. The first blocked the original prompt wording; the second upgraded the underlying model to GPT-5.5. He said the full chain worked with modified instructions on GPT-5.6 the next day, and the attack class still reproduced on July 28. "The vulnerability class therefore remains exploitable at the time of publication," Måløy said. The attack is not zero-click and does not execute conventional malware. It requires a Copilot drafting or editing operation, and the malicious document must en...

Russian Hackers Exploit Microsoft OWA Flaw to Keep Mailbox Access After Credential Rotation

Jul 30, 2026 Email Security / Vulnerability
The Russian threat actors recently linked to the exploitation of a now-patched vulnerability in Zimbra have been observed exploiting another vulnerability, this time in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), to target U.S. and European government entities, as well as the telecommunications, financial, hospitality, and aerospace sectors. The activity, which began on July 22, 2026, involves the weaponization of CVE-2026-42897 (CVSS score: 8.1), a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in OWA. It was flagged by Microsoft as having been exploited in attacks as far back as May 2026. Enterprise security company Proofpoint has attributed the activity to Laundry Bear (aka CL-STA-1114, TA488, UNK_PitStop, and Void Blizzard), which was recently attributed to the zero-day exploitation of CVE-2025-66376, an XSS flaw in Zimbra's Classic UI, since at least July 2025 before it was patched four months later. In these attacks, the threat actors sent out messages from adversary-controlled P...
Microsoft Says New Cybersecurity AI Model Helps MDASH Score 95.95% at Half the Cost

Microsoft Says New Cybersecurity AI Model Helps MDASH Score 95.95% at Half the Cost

Jul 28, 2026 AI Security / Vulnerability Management
Microsoft has launched its first cybersecurity-specific model inside MDASH , its multi-model vulnerability identification and remediation harness. The company says MDASH, using MAI-Cyber-1-Flash and GPT-5.4, scored 95.95% on CyberGym. It also claims the configuration costs 50% less than its current best MDASH combination of GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4 mini, and GPT-5.3 Codex. Access is limited to approved MDASH customers through an Azure AI Foundry private preview. MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is designed to handle up to 90% of MDASH tasks, with GPT-5.4 reserved for the hardest 10%. It is available only inside MDASH, not as a standalone public model or general-purpose application programming interface. The headline score belongs to MDASH running MAI-Cyber-1-Flash alongside GPT-5.4, not to the new model by itself. CyberGym Level 1 is a known-vulnerability reproduction test. It gives an agent a vulnerability description and the corresponding unpatched source code, then checks whether it can produce a ...
Operation BlueDash Deploys Level RMM and ScreenConnect via Fake Teams Update

Operation BlueDash Deploys Level RMM and ScreenConnect via Fake Teams Update

Jul 27, 2026 Malware / Cyber Attack
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a Microsoft Teams-themed phishing campaign that employs "secure document" lures to deliver legitimate remote monitoring and management ( RMM ) tools. "The victim was directed through compromised web infrastructure to a counterfeit Microsoft Store page claiming that Microsoft Teams had to be updated before the shared document could be opened," ZeroBEC said in a report published last week. The bogus Teams page in question is "teamvem[.]com." The active download is used to deliver "supportdev.exe," an Inno Setup-based loader that launches PowerShell in a hidden window, fetches an official Level RMM installer, and registers the endpoint using an attacker-controlled enrollment secret ("LEVEL_API_KEY=GxSCHE8EZwfyYN3iPQHPai8D"). The same PowerShell command has been found to download and deploy ConnectWise ScreenConnect in parallel, indicating an attempt to drop multiple RMM tools with an intent to...
Certighost Exploit Lets Low-Privileged Active Directory Users Impersonate a Domain Controller

Certighost Exploit Lets Low-Privileged Active Directory Users Impersonate a Domain Controller

Jul 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Researchers H0j3n and Aniq Fakhrul published a working exploit on July 24 that lets a low-privileged Active Directory user obtain a certificate for a Domain Controller and authenticate as that machine. They codenamed the flaw Certighost . Because Domain Controller accounts carry directory replication rights, the resulting Kerberos credential can retrieve the krbtgt secret through DCSync . Microsoft patched the Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) issue ten days earlier as CVE-2026-54121 . Microsoft classed the flaw as improper authorization and assigned it a CVSS score of 8.8. Exploitation requires network access and a domain account, but no administrator rights or user interaction. In the researchers' test, a normal Domain Users account could create a computer account under the default ms-DS-MachineAccountQuota value of 10 or reuse one it already controlled. The chain also required an Enterprise CA that followed the vulnerable chain path, enrollment through t...
Bing Images Flaws Let Crafted SVGs Run Commands as SYSTEM on Microsoft's Servers

Bing Images Flaws Let Crafted SVGs Run Commands as SYSTEM on Microsoft's Servers

Jul 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
A crafted SVG submitted to Bing's image search ran commands as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM on Microsoft's production image-processing workers, and as root on the Linux machines in the same fleet. XBOW's testing got the same result on workers across different hosts and network ranges, so the problem sat in Bing's image tier, not on one bad machine. Microsoft issued two critical CVEs, CVE-2026-32194 and CVE-2026-32191, and rated both 9.8 on the CVSS scale. XBOW, the autonomous offensive security startup, found both and reported them privately. Bing users have no patch or mitigation to apply: Microsoft fixed both server-side before the advisories went out in March, and the records state there is "no customer action to resolve." Neither advisory recorded exploitation or public disclosure when they went up on March 19. XBOW published the exploit mechanics on July 23, after holding them back at Microsoft's request until the remediation had landed. What outlive...
Police Dismantle Kratos Phishing Kit Built to Steal Microsoft 365 Sessions and Bypass MFA

Police Dismantle Kratos Phishing Kit Built to Steal Microsoft 365 Sessions and Bypass MFA

Jul 22, 2026 Law Enforcement / Cybercrime
German and US law enforcement have taken down the core infrastructure of Kratos , described by German investigators as one of the world's most widely used criminal phishing kits, and Indonesian authorities arrested the man they say developed and ran it. In a joint announcement on Monday, the Frankfurt public prosecutor's cybercrime unit (ZIT) and Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said they pulled more than 200 servers offline. Investigators estimate roughly 1,800 paying customers used Kratos to run about 15,000 phishing campaigns a month. Kratos harvested more than passwords. The kit was designed to steal the session cookie along with the login, and that cookie is enough to walk past two-factor authentication into the account as the user, the BKA said. ANY.RUN, which reverse-engineered the kit , found operators could pick one of two modes: a plain PHP page that only harvests credentials, or a Node.js reverse proxy designed to relay the login to Micros...
Microsoft Azure DevOps MCP Flaw Lets Hidden PR Comments Hijack AI Review Agents

Microsoft Azure DevOps MCP Flaw Lets Hidden PR Comments Hijack AI Review Agents

Jul 22, 2026 AI Security / DevSecOps
A single invisible comment in an Azure DevOps pull request can turn a reviewer's own AI coding agent against them, driving it into projects the attacker has no rights to reach and quietly leaking what it finds. The flaw is in Microsoft's official Azure DevOps MCP server , and it works because one of its tools returns pull request descriptions without a prompt-injection guardrail the company had already applied to others. Agentic Runtime Security firm Manifold Security detailed the confused-deputy bug this week. Microsoft ships the server so AI agents can read and operate Azure DevOps for a user, across pull requests, pipelines, wikis, and work items, all with the user's own permissions. That is the whole problem: content other people wrote can become instructions the agent acts on. Azure DevOps PR descriptions accept Markdown, which allows HTML comments. In the web UI, an HTML comment (<!-- ... -->) renders as nothing, so a reviewer scrolling the description s...
Critical SharePoint RCE CVE-2026-50522 Under Active Exploitation After Public PoC

Critical SharePoint RCE CVE-2026-50522 Under Active Exploitation After Public PoC

Jul 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
A third SharePoint Server flaw patched by Microsoft as part of its Patch Tuesday update for July 2026 has come under active exploitation, per watchTowr . The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-50522 (CVSS score: 9.8), a critical deserialization of untrusted data in Microsoft Office SharePoint that could allow an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. Microsoft credited DEVCORE researcher "splitline" with discovering and reporting the flaw. "In a network-based attack, an attacker authenticated as at least a Site Owner, could write arbitrary code to inject and execute code remotely on the SharePoint Server," Redmond said in an advisory released last week. "The attack vector is Network (AV:N) because this vulnerability is remotely exploitable and can be exploited from the internet. The attack complexity is Low (AC:L) because an attacker does not require significant prior knowledge of the system and can achieve repeatable success with the ...
HollowGraph Malware Hides C2 and Stolen Files in Microsoft 365 Events Dated 2050

HollowGraph Malware Hides C2 and Stolen Files in Microsoft 365 Events Dated 2050

Jul 20, 2026 Cyber Espionage / SaaS Security
A newly discovered espionage implant has been using a hijacked Microsoft 365 calendar as its command channel, planting operator instructions and smuggling out stolen files as attachments on calendar events dated to the year 2050. Group-IB , which named the malware HollowGraph , says the approach moves tasking and stolen data through legitimate Microsoft Graph API traffic, so the activity looks like ordinary Microsoft 365 chatter and network controls keyed to attacker-owned destinations have nothing to flag. The implant is a .NET DLL that supports just two commands, get and send , and it never reaches out to an attacker-owned server for payloads. Instead, it treats the compromised mailbox's calendar as a two-way dead drop. To pull tasking, it queries the calendar for an event the operator has planted, buried at 2050-05-13 , so the mailbox owner is unlikely to ever scroll to it, and reads its instructions from an attached file. To exfiltrate, it does the reverse: encrypts th...
CISA Adds Exploited SharePoint RCE Zero-Day CVE-2026-58644 to KEV

CISA Adds Exploited SharePoint RCE Zero-Day CVE-2026-58644 to KEV

Jul 17, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Thursday added a newly patched security flaw impacting Microsoft SharePoint Server to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, requiring Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies to apply the fixes by July 19, 2026. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-58644 (CVSS score: 9.8), a critical deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability that allows an unauthorized attacker to execute arbitrary code. "In a network-based attack, an attacker authenticated as at least a Site Owner, could write arbitrary code to inject and execute code remotely on the SharePoint Server," Microsoft said in an advisory released earlier this week. Redmond noted that the vulnerability is remotely exploitable over the internet, warning that the attack complexity is low for two reasons - An attacker does not require significant prior knowledge of the system An attacker can achieve repeatable su...

Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Jul 14, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Microsoft shipped its largest Patch Tuesday on record today, and two of the fixes close holes that attackers are already exploiting. The release covers 622 of Microsoft's own CVEs by its  Security Update Guide  count, more than triple  June's previous high of around 200 . Those two live bugs are the ones to grab first. Microsoft credits incident responders for both. Both are elevation-of-privilege flaws in identity and collaboration infrastructure: CVE-2026-56164 in on-premises SharePoint Server and CVE-2026-56155 in Active Directory Federation Services. Neither is one of the splashy remote code execution criticals. They are privilege bugs in two systems that matter more than their scores suggest: the company document store, and the box that signs its logins. The two zero-days to patch first CVE-2026-56164 , a SharePoint Server flaw Microsoft says is being exploited in attacks, lets an unauthenticated attacker escalate privileges over the ne...
