NovaCookies Campaigns Abuse Genuine Docusign Notifications to Steal Microsoft 365 Sessions

NovaCookies Campaigns Abuse Genuine Docusign Notifications to Steal Microsoft 365 Sessions

Ağu 26, 2026 Phishing / Identity Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a new adversary-in-the-middle ( AitM ) phishing toolkit called NovaCookies that's used as a proxy to redirect Microsoft 365 sign-ins, while capturing authenticated sessions in the process. In a report shared with The Hacker News ahead of publication, Island characterized the $320/month service as a subscription-based phishing platform that facilitates real-time Microsoft 365 session theft. The kit has been used to target hundreds of organizations across multiple sectors in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Germany, Israel, and the U.A.E. to date.  "Observed campaigns used genuine Docusign envelopes to carry counterfeit document-share lures, with some clicks routed through legitimate Microsoft or Google sign-in endpoints as redirect hops before reaching the kit," Island said. "The message, document service and redirect can therefore appear trustworthy until the browser reaches attacker-controlled infrastructure....
CISA Red Team Compromised Two Critical Infrastructure Orgs, One Detected Nothing

CISA Red Team Compromised Two Critical Infrastructure Orgs, One Detected Nothing

Ağu 26, 2026 Red Teaming / Security Operations
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has published the results of two red team assessments it conducted simultaneously against two critical infrastructure organizations, using what it described as similar tradecraft while recording sharply different defensive outcomes. Both organizations were fully compromised at the domain level, and in both, the red team also reached sensitive business systems (SBSs) and cloud resources. The advisory, tracked as AA26-237A and titled "A Tale of Two SOCs," was released on August 25, 2026. CISA identified the first target only as a Government Services and Facilities Sector organization, referred to as Organization A , and the second as a Water and Wastewater Systems Sector entity, referred to as Organization B . "CISA conducted two simultaneous red team assessments using similar tradecraft but observed different defensive responses," the agency said in the advisory. Against Organization A, the re...
Fake Apple Support AI Calls Target Stolen-Device Owners for Passcodes and 2FA Codes

Fake Apple Support AI Calls Target Stolen-Device Owners for Passcodes and 2FA Codes

Ağu 26, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Cybercrime
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) platform built to strip Apple's Activation Lock from stolen devices, using rented AI voice agents that call theft victims posing as Apple Support and ask for their device passcode. SOCRadar Threat Research Unit (STRU) said the platform, which it tracks as AnonyMousKIT , is credit-metered and drives lures across five channels from a single victim record, comprising email at 1.50 credits, SMS priced per sender ID, WhatsApp, a recorded voice call at 1 credit, and an AI voice agent at 2 credits. The targets are owners of Apple devices that were recently lost or stolen, and the pages and calls ask each of them for the 4- or 6-digit device passcode, then the Apple ID credentials, and finally a live two-factor authentication (2FA) code. Apple's own guidance states that the company never asks for a password, device passcode, or 2FA code to provide support. "AnonyMousKIT is best understood no...

Mirage2FA Surge Hits 4,500 US and EU Companies, Abusing Microsoft 365 Login Flows

Ağu 25, 2026 Phishing / Enterprise Security
Thousands of companies have been affected by the Mirage2FA campaign from 2024 to 2026. The commercial phishing-as-a-service toolkit targets Microsoft 365 accounts by abusing legitimate login flows and bypassing two-factor authentication. According to ANY.RUN research, 48% of targeted email addresses were potentially compromised. Most of the affected companies are US-based. Mirage2FA Campaign Scope and Impact By stealing passwords and session cookies, attackers can gain access to authenticated Microsoft 365 sessions and SSO-connected services. This creates significant identity-related risks for companies, potentially exposing corporate email, trusted business accounts, and other sensitive data. Once an authenticated Microsoft 365 session is hijacked, a path for impersonation, fraud, and further compromise is created. Key takeaways about Mirage2FA by ANY.RUN The campaign has a broad geographic and corporate reach. Apart from the United States accounting for 63.7% of the tot...

⚡ Weekly Recap: AI-Powered PLC Attacks, GitLab Attacks, Stripe Key Leaks and More

Ağu 24, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
A package gets installed. A login prompt opens. A box sits exposed to the internet. Nothing looks unusual yet. That’s roughly the mood this week. Trusted tools turn hostile, old weak spots get fresh attention, AI makes exploit work cheaper, and researchers keep finding attacks that sound harder than they actually are. Plenty to clean up. Here’s the short version. ⚡ Threat of the Week U.S. Warns of AI-Powered Attacks on Siemens PLCs — Threat actors are using AI to write exploit scripts targeting internet-exposed Siemens S7 Series programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used across water, energy, manufacturing, and other critical infrastructure sectors, according to the U.S. government. The agencies warned: "This is not a theoretical risk—it is an active threat." The exploitation of poorly secured PLCs could result in disruption of critical industrial processes, safety incidents, downtime or equipment damage, compromise of sensitive data, and compliance violations, not...
The Outsized Shadow: Why 5% of AI Users Are Your Biggest Security Risk

The Outsized Shadow: Why 5% of AI Users Are Your Biggest Security Risk

Ağu 24, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Browser Security
Big security risks come in small packages. While enterprise security teams focus on policing the proliferation of employees using ChatGPT and Claude for quick drafting tasks, a more urgent threat is posed by a handful of AI super-adopters who are quietly hardcoding unvetted tools into critical business operations. According to new research published by Akamai, the top 5% of enterprise power users interact with AI models at 12 times the rate of the bottom 50% of the workforce. The findings, published in Akamai’s State of the Internet: Enterprise AI Usage Risk Report 2026 , are based on real-world usage and telemetry data as well as research and threat analysis.  These AI super-adopters are creating a disproportionate security risk by expanding the use of shadow AI, increasing opportunities for data leakage, and introducing autonomous AI agents that operate within the enterprise but outside its established guardrails. “Small groups of AI power users are casting outsized shado...

Microsoft Patches Severe Entra ID Flaw (CVSS 10.0) Allowing Remote Code Execution

Ağu 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Threat Intelligence
Update: The story was updated after publication to note that the vulnerability has not been exploited. Although the security bulletin originally marked the "Exploited" field under the Exploitability Assessment table as "Yes," on August 21, 2026, Microsoft corrected the "Exploited" status to "No" after The Hacker News contacted the company for comment. It also noted, "this vulnerability was not exploited in the wild." "We identified and addressed this issue with a fix and released CVE-2026-69836 for greater transparency . There are no additional actions customers need to take,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Hacker News. The headline has been edited to reflect this change. The original story follows below - Microsoft on Thursday warned of a maximum-severity security flaw in Entra ID that it said has been exploited in the wild, but noted that no customer action is required. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-69836...
Suspected Russian Hackers Abuse Google OAuth and WhatsApp Linking to Hijack Accounts

Suspected Russian Hackers Abuse Google OAuth and WhatsApp Linking to Hijack Accounts

Ağu 20, 2026 Phishing / Cyber Espionage
Three distinct suspected Russian cyber espionage threat clusters have been observed leveraging legitimate authentication flows to single out individuals working in academia, aerospace and defense, governments, and think tanks across Europe, as well as academia and think tanks within the U.S. These clusters include UNC6293 , UNC7005 , and UNC5976 . "These clusters engage in persistent, adaptive phishing campaigns, using sophisticated social engineering tactics to compromise personal accounts across multiple platforms," Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) researchers Gabby Roncone and Wesley Shields said in a report published today. UNC6293, first detailed by the tech giant and the Citizen Lab in June 2025, is assessed to be a sub-cluster of Ice Relic (formerly APT29), which is also tracked under the monikers Cozy Bear and Midnight Blizzard. The hacking crew was previously attributed to a campaign that abused a Google account feature called application specific pas...

One Attacker Has Scraped Both Salesforce and ServiceNow Portals Since 2025

Ağu 18, 2026 SaaS Security / Cloud Security
A single piece of infrastructure has been pulling records out of Salesforce and ServiceNow customer portals across multiple industries for more than a year, according to research published this week by agent security platform Reco. The activity, which Reco has named the City Forum campaign after a domain tied to the attacker's IP address, traces back to one server: 158.220.87.79, hosted on a commodity VPS through the German provider Contabo. Every request from that server carries the same fingerprint, the default user agent of Go's net/http library, which tells researchers the tool behind it is a compiled, purpose built program rather than anything run from a browser. Passive DNS shows the same domain pointed at that IP as far back as March 2025, and the server has not moved since. Targets identified so far span telecoms, banks and other financial services firms, enterprise software vendors including security and data privacy companies, and public sector portals, though Reco...

⚡ Weekly Recap: VMware Exploits, Windows 0-Day, MCP Attacks, Browser Hijacks and More

Ağu 17, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
The expensive attacks are not always the clever ones. This week had plenty of proof. Exposed services got hit, old bugs found fresh use, browser sessions became attack paths, and supply-chain problems kept spreading farther than the original compromise. A lot of it came down to access that was already there and defenses that assumed nobody would look too closely. So, nothing magical. Just a lot of small openings turning into bigger problems. Here’s what stood out. ⚡ Threat of the Week Suspected China APT Behind Exploitation of New VMware Flaw — A suspected China-nexus APT is assessed to be behind the exploitation of a newly patched security flaw in VMware vCenter. The attacks involve the exploitation of CVE-2026-59310 (CVSS score: 9.8), a severe directory-traversal vulnerability in the VMware vCenter server that could be weaponized by a malicious actor to execute arbitrary code. In at least one compromised instance, the attacks led to the deployment of a backdoor and. a rever...
How MCP Servers Can Expose Enterprise Secrets

How MCP Servers Can Expose Enterprise Secrets

Ağu 17, 2026 AI Security / Identity Security
MCP servers can expose enterprise secrets through plaintext configuration files, over-permissioned access and prompt injection, often before security teams even know the server is running. As more organizations adopt AI agents into their systems, that exposure can silently become a major gap in MCP server security. The Model Context Protocol (MCP) allows AI agents to reach the tools and data, including internal documentation and cloud infrastructure, that form the foundation of enterprise systems. Behind that convenience, the MCP server connecting those tools and data to enterprise systems typically holds the keys to everything it touches: credentials, service account keys, API tokens and other secrets. Every organization should now question what secrets they are handing to AI and how well those secrets are protected once they reach an MCP server. What is Model Context Protocol (MCP)? Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard, originally introduced by Anthropic, that allows...
Suspected China-Nexus Actor Exploits VMware vCenter Flaw, Deploys Babuk-Derived Ransomware

Suspected China-Nexus Actor Exploits VMware vCenter Flaw, Deploys Babuk-Derived Ransomware

Ağu 17, 2026 Vulnerability / Ransomware
Cybersecurity researchers have attributed the exploitation of a newly patched security flaw in Broadcom VMware vCenter to a suspected China-nexus advanced persistent threat (APT). The attacks involve the exploitation of CVE-2026-59310 (CVSS score: 9.8), a severe directory-traversal vulnerability in the VMware vCenter server that could be weaponized by a malicious actor to execute arbitrary code. A fix for the flaw was released by Broadcom on July 29, 2026. German incident response company QUIRSO assessed with moderate confidence that the exploitation campaign aimed at CVE-2026-59310 is operated by a Chinese-speaking threat actor, likely working in the UTC+08:00 time zone, which is predominantly used in Chinese-speaking regions. "This assessment is based on the convergence of Chinese-language artifacts in attacker-created scripts, apparent reuse of research from a Chinese security publication, repeated operational use of Chinese-language tools and management software, victi...
IAM Compliance Requirements and Best Practices

IAM Compliance Requirements and Best Practices

Ağu 14, 2026 Identity Security / Risk Management
IAM compliance is the practice of demonstrating that identity and access controls are not only documented but actually enforced across users, applications, infrastructure, and non-human identities. This guide explains what IAM compliance requires, which regulations matter, and how organizations move from periodic access reviews toward continuous, evidence-backed verification that auditors can trust. Understanding IAM Compliance and Why It Matters Identity and Access Management (IAM) governs who can access what, under which conditions, and for how long. IAM compliance measures whether those access decisions match your stated policies and regulatory obligations, and whether you can produce evidence to prove it. The critical distinction is between policy intent and runtime execution. IAM platforms express how access should work. Applications and infrastructure reveal how access actually works. The gap between the two is where compliance failures, unmanaged access, and audit surp...

CTM360 Uncovers Over 3,000 Recruitment Phishing URLs Using Browser-in-the-Browser (BitB) Credential Traps

Ağu 14, 2026 United States
Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a large-scale, global recruitment-themed phishing campaign that uses fake interview scheduling pages and Browser-in-the-Browser (BitB) windows to steal Google and Facebook credentials and, in more advanced cases, relay multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompts in real time. CTM360, which detailed the activity in a new report titled RecruitTrap , said it identified more than 3,000+ phishing URLs over two months. The campaign impersonated real recruiters and recruitment processes associated with more than 50 organizations across 14 sectors . Marketing professionals accounted for the majority of observed targets. The focus on marketing roles appears deliberate. Compromised marketing accounts can provide access to advertising platforms, corporate social media profiles, customer data, email, and other business-critical services. North Korean Remote Workers Are Infiltrating Government and Businesses: How to Expose Them Before Hiring

North Korean Remote Workers Are Infiltrating Government and Businesses: How to Expose Them Before Hiring

Ağu 13, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Threat Intelligence
Companies are used to thinking about attackers as outsiders trying to break in. North Korean IT workers flip that model. They apply for jobs, pass interviews, receive legitimate credentials, and can end up inside the same systems companies spend millions trying to protect. That risk is no longer theoretical. The FBI is now investigating a North Korean remote IT worker who reportedly worked for a U.S. federal agency. For CISOs, the priority is clear: spot the warning signs before a fraudulent hire becomes trusted access. When the Threat Gets Hired A recent joint investigation by Mauro Eldritch ( BCA LTD ), Heiner García ( NorthScan ), and ANY.RUN showed what this looks like from inside the operation. Researchers deliberately hired suspected DPRK developers linked to Lazarus Group and gave them what looked like ordinary virtual desktops. In reality, they were controlled ANY.RUN Sandboxes, capturing their activity in real time. The operation exposed forged identities, re...

Attackers Exploit SharePoint Authentication Bypass After Public PoC Release

Ağu 13, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a newly disclosed Microsoft SharePoint vulnerability following the release of a proof-of-concept (PoC) code. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-55040 (CVSS score: 9.1), which refers to a critical security feature bypass that stems from weak authentication. It was patched by Microsoft as part of its July 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. "The authentication feature could be bypassed as this vulnerability allows impersonation," Microsoft said in an advisory for the flaw last month. "Exploiting this vulnerability could allow an attacker to disclose files and modify data, but the attacker cannot impact the availability of the system." According to Defused Cyber , threat actors are leveraging a PoC exploit released by Rapid7 earlier this week, once again indicating fresh flaws are being rapidly abused in real-world attacks. It's worth mentioning that CVE-2026-55040 is the fifth SharePoint vulnerability to be exploited t...
Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Ağu 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Security researchers found a way to enter Microsoft SharePoint servers as any user, including an administrator, with no valid account. A significant part of the work that found it was done through an AI agent. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2026-55040  (CVSS 9.1), affects SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server 2019, and SharePoint Server 2016. Microsoft's affected-product list covers only those three on-premises editions, and SharePoint Online is not among them. It lets a remote unauthenticated attacker assume a chosen user's identity. The attack has one prerequisite: the intruder has to know which account they want to become, either by its Active Directory security identifier (SID) or its user principal name (UPN), which is formatted like an email address. Rapid7 then chained the bypass to a separate remote code execution flaw and ran code on the server with no credentials. Microsoft and the firm disclosed that second flaw on August 11 as  CVE-2026...
Gunra Ransomware Exploits Fortinet FortiOS, FortiProxy Flaws to Breach Networks

Gunra Ransomware Exploits Fortinet FortiOS, FortiProxy Flaws to Breach Networks

Ağu 11, 2026 Ransomware / Threat Intelligence
Cybersecurity and intelligence agencies from South Korea and the U.S. warned of Gunra ransomware attacks targeting critical infrastructure sectors and organizations across the world. Targets of these attacks include healthcare and public health, financial services, government services and facilities, and professional and nonprofit services. "Gunra is another variant in the ongoing trend of ransomware attacks causing disruption and harm to U.S. and international organizations," CISA Acting Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity, Chris Butera, said. Attacks deploying the ransomware have leveraged security flaws in internet-facing Fortinet FortiOS and FortiProxy ( CVE-2024-55591  and CVE-2025-24472 ) appliances to obtain initial access, and then deploy the Gunra ransomware as part of a double extortion model that combines data exfiltration and data encryption for maximum impact. Victims who refuse to pay up within five to seven days have their data published ...

⚡ Weekly Recap: AI Goes Rogue, Metabase 0-Day, MCP Supply-Chain Attacks, and Router Backdoors

Ağu 10, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
A lot of security problems still begin with someone doing a completely normal thing. Cloning a repo. Answering a call. Leaving a box exposed. Trusting the default. That pretty much covers the mood this week. Old bugs are back, supply chains are getting stranger, and some exploit paths are so short you wonder what was supposed to stop them in the first place. That’s only part of it. Here’s everything else that made the Monday recap. ⚡ Threat of the Week Anthropic's Model Attempts to Poison Open-Source Project — A new evaluation conducted by the U.K. AI Security Institute (AISI) found that AI models with access to the internet reached out into the real world to target individuals and organizations autonomously across 10 of the total of 122 runs. Of 19 such actions recorded, 17 originated from Anthropic's Mythos 5 and the remaining two involved OpenAI's GPT-5.6-Sol with cyber classifiers. In the most serious case, Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 spent 34 hours trying...

New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing-Resistant MFA

Ağu 10, 2026 Identity Security / Endpoint Security
Three separate research efforts last week demonstrated ways to defeat passkey protections without breaking the cryptography they rest on. Passkeys are designed to replace reusable passwords and resist phishing. The attacks instead reused signed authentication material that Windows had exposed, abused a cloud-synced passkey system from malware already on the victim's machine, and used a  Windows Hello for Business  key from a compromised user session without a fresh PIN or biometric check. None cracked the math. The impact is not the same in all three cases. SpecterOps showed a Windows and Microsoft Entra ID chain that could impersonate privileged users while satisfying phishing-resistant multifactor authentication (MFA); that chain reused signed authentication material rather than stealing the authenticator's private key. Unit 42 showed attacks against  Google Password Manager in Chrome , including a path that recovers the private keys for a victim's synced p...
