North Korean Remote Workers Are Infiltrating Government and Businesses: How to Expose Them Before Hiring

North Korean Remote Workers Are Infiltrating Government and Businesses: How to Expose Them Before Hiring

Aug 13, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Threat Intelligence
Companies are used to thinking about attackers as outsiders trying to break in. North Korean IT workers flip that model. They apply for jobs, pass interviews, receive legitimate credentials, and can end up inside the same systems companies spend millions trying to protect. That risk is no longer theoretical. The FBI is now investigating a North Korean remote IT worker who reportedly worked for a U.S. federal agency. For CISOs, the priority is clear: spot the warning signs before a fraudulent hire becomes trusted access. When the Threat Gets Hired A recent joint investigation by Mauro Eldritch ( BCA LTD ), Heiner García ( NorthScan ), and ANY.RUN showed what this looks like from inside the operation. Researchers deliberately hired suspected DPRK developers linked to Lazarus Group and gave them what looked like ordinary virtual desktops. In reality, they were controlled ANY.RUN Sandboxes, capturing their activity in real time. The operation exposed forged identities, re...

Attackers Exploit SharePoint Authentication Bypass After Public PoC Release

Aug 13, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a newly disclosed Microsoft SharePoint vulnerability following the release of a proof-of-concept (PoC) code. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-55040 (CVSS score: 9.1), which refers to a critical security feature bypass that stems from weak authentication. It was patched by Microsoft as part of its July 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. "The authentication feature could be bypassed as this vulnerability allows impersonation," Microsoft said in an advisory for the flaw last month. "Exploiting this vulnerability could allow an attacker to disclose files and modify data, but the attacker cannot impact the availability of the system." According to Defused Cyber , threat actors are leveraging a PoC exploit released by Rapid7 earlier this week, once again indicating fresh flaws are being rapidly abused in real-world attacks. It's worth mentioning that CVE-2026-55040 is the fifth SharePoint vulnerability to be exploited t...

Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Aug 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Security researchers found a way to enter Microsoft SharePoint servers as any user, including an administrator, with no valid account. A significant part of the work that found it was done through an AI agent. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2026-55040  (CVSS 9.1), affects SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server 2019, and SharePoint Server 2016. Microsoft's affected-product list covers only those three on-premises editions, and SharePoint Online is not among them. It lets a remote unauthenticated attacker assume a chosen user's identity. The attack has one prerequisite: the intruder has to know which account they want to become, either by its Active Directory security identifier (SID) or its user principal name (UPN), which is formatted like an email address. Rapid7 then chained the bypass to a separate remote code execution flaw and ran code on the server with no credentials. Microsoft and the firm disclosed that second flaw on August 11 as  CVE-2026...

Gunra Ransomware Exploits Fortinet FortiOS, FortiProxy Flaws to Breach Networks

Gunra Ransomware Exploits Fortinet FortiOS, FortiProxy Flaws to Breach Networks

Aug 11, 2026 Ransomware / Threat Intelligence
Cybersecurity and intelligence agencies from South Korea and the U.S. warned of Gunra ransomware attacks targeting critical infrastructure sectors and organizations across the world. Targets of these attacks include healthcare and public health, financial services, government services and facilities, and professional and nonprofit services. "Gunra is another variant in the ongoing trend of ransomware attacks causing disruption and harm to U.S. and international organizations," CISA Acting Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity, Chris Butera, said. Attacks deploying the ransomware have leveraged security flaws in internet-facing Fortinet FortiOS and FortiProxy ( CVE-2024-55591  and CVE-2025-24472 ) appliances to obtain initial access, and then deploy the Gunra ransomware as part of a double extortion model that combines data exfiltration and data encryption for maximum impact. Victims who refuse to pay up within five to seven days have their data published ...
⚡ Weekly Recap: AI Goes Rogue, Metabase 0-Day, MCP Supply-Chain Attacks, and Router Backdoors

⚡ Weekly Recap: AI Goes Rogue, Metabase 0-Day, MCP Supply-Chain Attacks, and Router Backdoors

Aug 10, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
A lot of security problems still begin with someone doing a completely normal thing. Cloning a repo. Answering a call. Leaving a box exposed. Trusting the default. That pretty much covers the mood this week. Old bugs are back, supply chains are getting stranger, and some exploit paths are so short you wonder what was supposed to stop them in the first place. That’s only part of it. Here’s everything else that made the Monday recap. ⚡ Threat of the Week Anthropic's Model Attempts to Poison Open-Source Project — A new evaluation conducted by the U.K. AI Security Institute (AISI) found that AI models with access to the internet reached out into the real world to target individuals and organizations autonomously across 10 of the total of 122 runs. Of 19 such actions recorded, 17 originated from Anthropic's Mythos 5 and the remaining two involved OpenAI's GPT-5.6-Sol with cyber classifiers. In the most serious case, Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 spent 34 hours trying...
New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing-Resistant MFA

New Passkey Attacks Can Recover Synced Private Keys or Bypass Phishing-Resistant MFA

Aug 10, 2026 Identity Security / Endpoint Security
Three separate research efforts last week demonstrated ways to defeat passkey protections without breaking the cryptography they rest on. Passkeys are designed to replace reusable passwords and resist phishing. The attacks instead reused signed authentication material that Windows had exposed, abused a cloud-synced passkey system from malware already on the victim's machine, and used a  Windows Hello for Business  key from a compromised user session without a fresh PIN or biometric check. None cracked the math. The impact is not the same in all three cases. SpecterOps showed a Windows and Microsoft Entra ID chain that could impersonate privileged users while satisfying phishing-resistant multifactor authentication (MFA); that chain reused signed authentication material rather than stealing the authenticator's private key. Unit 42 showed attacks against  Google Password Manager in Chrome , including a path that recovers the private keys for a victim's synced p...
UNC6671 Vishing Attacks Target Personal Phones to Steal SaaS Data

UNC6671 Vishing Attacks Target Personal Phones to Steal SaaS Data

Aug 07, 2026 Phishing / SaaS Security
A recent wave of cyber attacks targeting financial services, private equity, and professional services has been attributed to a data extortion group known as UNC6671 . "UNC6671 continues to rely on voice phishing (vishing) to target enterprise employees, posing as IT help desk staff facilitating mandatory, urgent security migrations. Significantly, the threat actor often contacts employees via their personal mobile devices," Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) and Mandiant said in a report. These calls are designed to trick victims into spoofed login portals where adversary-in-the-middle (AitM) infrastructure intercepts credentials and multi-factor authentication (MFA) tokens. The threat actors then leverage the captured data to establish session persistence and deploy automated Python and PowerShell scripts for data exfiltration from enterprise cloud environments and SaaS applications, including Microsoft 365 and Okta. According to the tech giant, UNC6671 has d...
Microsoft 365 AitM Phishing Hijacks Accounts to Collect Payroll and Finance Emails

Microsoft 365 AitM Phishing Hijacks Accounts to Collect Payroll and Finance Emails

Aug 07, 2026 Phishing / Email Security
Cybersecurity researchers have called attention to an active "widespread email-driven phishing campaign" that employs adversary-in-the-middle (AitM) techniques to take control of Microsoft 365 accounts with an aim to identify key personnel involved in financial workflows and gather related email. "The campaign uses residential proxies to disguise malicious sign-ins as ordinary consumer traffic," Arctic Wolf Labs said . "Automated activity maintains compromised sessions at approximately eight-hour intervals." The activity is assessed to impact organizations across healthcare, education, manufacturing, government, and professional services sectors located in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. It shares tactical overlaps with Payroll Pirate attacks tracked by Microsoft under the moniker Storm-2755 . Payroll Pirates is the designation assigned to a broader financially motivated threat cluster that involves hijacking the accounts of employees to reroute sal...
Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Aug 07, 2026 Endpoint Security / Vulnerability
Entra ID researcher Dirk-jan Mollema demonstrated that malware already running in a signed-in Windows session can silently use the victim's Windows Hello for Business key to authenticate to Microsoft Entra ID. The attacker can then establish longer-term cloud access, register a device it controls, obtain a Primary Refresh Token (PRT), and add further authentication methods where tenant policies permit. On TPM-backed systems, the attacker does not extract the private key, recover the PIN, or trigger a biometric prompt. Windows ticketing keeps private-key operations available while the user is interactively signed in, allowing code running as the user to ask Windows to sign authentication data. Administrator privileges are not required. The technique requires code execution in the victim's signed-in session. Mollema describes the behavior as a consequence of how Windows Hello for Business works and says it was left as-is. The disclosure does not report active exploitatio...
Kali365 Weaponizes Microsoft Authentication Against US Companies: New Enterprise Risk

Kali365 Weaponizes Microsoft Authentication Against US Companies: New Enterprise Risk

Aug 05, 2026 Phishing / Identity Security
Kali365 is turning a legitimate Microsoft login into a gateway to corporate data. The phishing kit targets US organizations with attacker-controlled device codes that victims approve on Microsoft's real authentication page. Once access and refresh tokens are issued, attackers may retain access to email, documents, and cloud resources, creating a direct path to data exposure, financial fraud, operational disruption, and costly incident response. How Kali365 Targets US Organizations Kali365 is a device code phishing kit built to abuse legitimate Microsoft authentication. ANY.RUN telemetry records more than 80 public sessions linked to the campaign each week, with the United States emerging as its main geographic target. One of these sandbox sessions shows a SharePoint-themed lure used to draw the victim into the authentication flow. View the analysis session and gather IOCs SharePoint-themed Kali365 lure analyzed inside ANY.RUN’s Interactive Sandbox Based on the resear...
Greatness PhaaS Adds Device Code Phishing to Bypass MFA and Steal Tokens

Greatness PhaaS Adds Device Code Phishing to Bypass MFA and Steal Tokens

Aug 04, 2026 Phishing / Cybercrime
The commercial phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) toolkit known as Greatness has become the latest crimeware solution to add support for device code phishing, a rapidly growing cyber threat that abuses the legitimate OAuth 2.0 Device Authorization Grant to bypass Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and seize control of user accounts. "Greatness supports AiTM [adversary-in-the-middle] credential and token theft, device code phishing, and OAuth consent abuse, all from the same operator panel and shared backend infrastructure," ZeroBEC said in a report shared with The Hacker News detailing the PhaaS kit's latest capabilities. "The platform now supports AiTM token theft, device code phishing, OAuth consent abuse, and multiple target platforms, including iCloud, Yahoo, and Google Workspace. This evolution reflects the broader trend of PhaaS platforms expanding from simple credential harvesting to integrated attack ecosystems." The phishing platform was first pu...
Google Deletes 3 ADK AI Workflows After Malicious GitHub Issue Could Trigger Privileged Agent

Google Deletes 3 ADK AI Workflows After Malicious GitHub Issue Could Trigger Privileged Agent

Aug 04, 2026 AI Security / DevSecOps
Google deleted three AI agent workflows from its Agent Development Kit (ADK) Python repository. Pillar Security showed that a public GitHub issue could manipulate a triage agent into triggering a privileged code-fixing agent. The researchers said the public agent could be prompt-injected into posting /adk-issue-fix as adk-bot . They identified the bot as a collaborator, so that comment satisfied the privileged workflow's owner, member, or collaborator gate. The trusted bot identity became the authorization bridge. The team demonstrated arbitrary code execution on the continuous integration (CI) runner and exfiltration of the bot personal access token (PAT). The privileged job also held a Google API key and a Google Cloud service-account credential. Its researcher-controlled proof-of-concept attacks do not identify in-the-wild exploitation or a compromised ADK release. The exposed component was the repository automation, not a flaw in the distributed ADK Python package. Fo...
Google Password Manager Attacks Could Let Malware Hijack Passkey-Protected Accounts

Google Password Manager Attacks Could Let Malware Hijack Passkey-Protected Accounts

Aug 03, 2026 Authentication / Web Security
Malware running as an ordinary user on a Windows machine can sign into a victim's passkey-protected accounts without a fingerprint, a PIN, or anything at all appearing on the victim's screen. Unit 42 detailed three attack paths against Chrome's Google Password Manager cloud authenticator, which it calls Pass-ta-key , Silver Pass-ta-key and Golden Pass-ta-key ; the strongest targets the master key protecting the user's synced passkeys. None of this breaks the cryptography. The attacks go after the code around the passkey: how Chrome stores its device keys, how it re-enrolls a device after that state disappears, and whether the site you are signing into bothers to check that a human was verified at all. The attacks can silently obtain a valid authentication assertion, install an attacker-controlled user-verification key, or extract the 32-byte Security Domain Secret (SDS) used to decrypt synced passkey private keys. The researchers said the last two paths can p...

⚡ Weekly Recap: Rogue AI Models, $88M Bitcoin Theft, Water-System Attacks and Dangling DNS Hijacks

Aug 03, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
This week kept coming back to permission. A model crossed a boundary. A wallet trusted bad randomness. Webmail kept an intruder around. Public systems, package feeds, hotel networks, and login flows all gave away more than intended. Some of it was clever. Most of it was just access left lying around: old bugs, exposed gear, poisoned dependencies, weak defaults, and tooling that moved from forum chatter to real targets. The full weekly recap report follows. ⚡ Threat of the Week Anthropic Disclosed its Models Targeted 3 Organizations - Anthropic revealed that three of its models, including Claude Opus 4.7, Mythos 5, and an unnamed research model, breached three unnamed organizations during cybersecurity testing without its knowledge. The AI firm said the earliest incidents date back to April 2026, adding it made the discoveries after launching a "large-scale retrospective review" in response to the recent Hugging Face incident. 6 Reasons Why Device Code Phishing is the Fastest-Growing Threat of 2026

6 Reasons Why Device Code Phishing is the Fastest-Growing Threat of 2026

Jul 31, 2026 Phishing / Browser Security
Device code phishing - the abuse of the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant to steal access tokens - has evolved from a niche red-team technique to an industrial-scale threat in under six months. Designed for input-constrained devices like smart TVs, printers, and so on, the device authorization login flow has been adopted by a wide range of apps and use-cases that it wasn't originally intended for - most commonly CLI logins. Researchers first described the attack vector in 2020, but it took until 2024 before nation-state actors like Storm-2372 started using it in the wild. By 2025, ShinyHunters was using device code phishing against Salesforce tenants at scale, then in February 2026, the EvilTokens kit arrived and criminal adoption skyrocketed. By April, Microsoft was reporting 10 to 15 entirely new campaigns every 24 hours . Barracuda counted 7 million attacks in four weeks . The FBI issued a standalone advisory on Kali365 , the first US federal agency PSA about a specif...
Mythos Asks the Right Question. It Doesn't Answer It.

Mythos Asks the Right Question. It Doesn't Answer It.

Jul 29, 2026 Exposure Management / Artificial Intelligence
AI is compressing exploit timelines. The real question isn't whether your vulnerability management playbook needs to change, it's which part of it you've been getting wrong all along. The conversation happening in security circles right now goes something like this: Mythos is here. Exploit timelines are collapsing. Does the vulnerability management playbook need to change? The honest answer is yes. But not the part most people are focused on. The discussion around Mythos, Anthropic's frontier model and its implications for offensive security, tends to center on discovery. AI accelerates reconnaissance. It helps attackers identify exposures faster, chain techniques more efficiently, and move at machine speed through environments that were previously protected, in part, by the attacker's own time constraints. That's real. And it matters. But here's the part getting less attention: most security teams weren't winning the prioritization battle bef...

⚡ Weekly Recap: Rogue AI Agents, Check Point Exploit, Slopsquatting, ClickFix Lures and More

Jul 27, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
Monday starts with the usual promise that everything is under control. Then the logs wake up. This week, trusted tools crossed lines, old flaws found new work, exposed systems stayed exposed, and attackers kept hiding inside normal-looking services. Nothing looked strange at first. That helped. That is the mood. Here is the full recap. ⚡ Threat of the Week OpenAI Says Its AI Agent Went Rogue and Targeted Hugging Face - OpenAI disclosed that it lost control of two AI models during a security evaluation that ended in a breach of Hugging Face. The AI company said its AI models broke out of a sealed testing environment and broke into Hugging Face's production system to find solutions for the ExploitGym benchmark. "The incident also makes clear that advanced models can discover and exploit novel attack paths in real-world systems without source-code access," OpenAI said. "It highlights that advanced cyber capabilities must be developed alongside stronger safegua...
BlueNoroff Zoom Phishing Kit Profiles Crypto Wallets Before Malware Delivery

BlueNoroff Zoom Phishing Kit Profiles Crypto Wallets Before Malware Delivery

Jul 24, 2026 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
The North Korean threat actors behind the ClickFix-style campaigns that employ typosquatted Zoom and Microsoft Teams domains have been found to operate an active phishing kit to impersonate the videoconferencing platforms in social engineering campaigns designed to deliver malware. " BlueNoroff has operationalised trust abuse by combining compromised industry contacts, social engineering, wallet reconnaissance and malware delivery into a repeatable victim acquisition pipeline," JUMPSEC said in a detailed report shared with The Hacker News. "The platform profiles victims' cryptocurrency wallets before malware delivery, enabling selective targeting of high-value victims." Describing the campaign as an operator-driven victim acquisition platform, the cybersecurity company noted that the activity involves using compromised trusted contacts as the initial access vector to create a self-propagating attack chain via Telegram. Details of the activity have been...
Certighost Exploit Lets Low-Privileged Active Directory Users Impersonate a Domain Controller

Certighost Exploit Lets Low-Privileged Active Directory Users Impersonate a Domain Controller

Jul 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Researchers H0j3n and Aniq Fakhrul published a working exploit on July 24 that lets a low-privileged Active Directory user obtain a certificate for a Domain Controller and authenticate as that machine. They codenamed the flaw Certighost . Because Domain Controller accounts carry directory replication rights, the resulting Kerberos credential can retrieve the krbtgt secret through DCSync . Microsoft patched the Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) issue ten days earlier as CVE-2026-54121 . Microsoft classed the flaw as improper authorization and assigned it a CVSS score of 8.8. Exploitation requires network access and a domain account, but no administrator rights or user interaction. In the researchers' test, a normal Domain Users account could create a computer account under the default ms-DS-MachineAccountQuota value of 10 or reuse one it already controlled. The chain also required an Enterprise CA that followed the vulnerable chain path, enrollment through t...
ChatGPT AgentForger Flaw Could Deploy Rogue Workspace Agents via a Phishing Link

ChatGPT AgentForger Flaw Could Deploy Rogue Workspace Agents via a Phishing Link

Jul 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a critical vulnerability in OpenAI's ChatGPT Workspace Agents that could have allowed a single phishing link to stealthily build, authorize, and deploy an autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agent inside a victim's organization. The vulnerability has been codenamed AgentForger by Zenity Labs. The issue has since been addressed by OpenAI as of June 8, 2026, following responsible disclosure. "A single link could hijack OpenAI's ChatGPT Agent Builder to stand up an attacker-controlled AI agent with a real employee's access and its approvals switched off," the AI security company said in a two-part report shared with The Hacker News. The attack occurs when an unsuspecting employee clicks open a benign-looking ChatGPT link, causing it to spawn a new AI agent within the company's trust boundary that does the attacker's bidding. The issue is a case of cross-site request forgery (CSRF) that forges an attack...
