Critical Security Flaws Uncovered in Honeywell Experion DCS and QuickBlox Services

Critical Security Flaws Uncovered in Honeywell Experion DCS and QuickBlox Services

Jul 14, 2023 Vulnerability/ Cyber Threat
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been discovered in various services, including Honeywell Experion distributed control system (DCS) and QuickBlox, that, if successfully exploited, could result in severe compromise of affected systems. Dubbed Crit.IX, the nine flaws in the Honeywell Experion DCS platform allow for "unauthorized remote code execution, which means an attacker would have the power to take over the devices and alter the operation of the DCS controller, whilst also hiding the alterations from the engineering workstation that manages the controller," Armis said in a statement shared with The Hacker News. Put differently, the issues relate to lack of encryption and adequate authentication mechanisms in a proprietary protocol called Control Data Access (CDA) that's used to communicate between Experion Servers and C300 controllers, effectively enabling a threat actor to take over the devices and alter the operation of the DCS controller. "As a resul...

Multiple Critical Flaws Discovered in Honeywell Experion PKS and ACE Controllers

Oct 06, 2021
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Tuesday  released  an advisory regarding multiple security vulnerabilities affecting all versions of Honeywell Experion Process Knowledge System C200, C200E, C300, and ACE controllers that could be exploited to achieve remote code execution and denial-of-service (DoS) conditions. "A Control Component Library (CCL) may be modified by a bad actor and loaded to a controller such that malicious code is executed by the controller," Honeywell  noted  in an independent security notification published earlier this February. Credited with discovering and reporting the flaws are Rei Henigman and Nadav Erez of industrial cybersecurity firm Claroty. Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) is a distributed control system ( DCS ) that's designed to control large industrial processes spanning a variety of sectors ranging from petrochemical refineries to nuclear power plants where high reliability and security i...
Webinar: Learn How ASPM Transforms Application Security from Reactive to Proactive

Webinar: Learn How ASPM Transforms Application Security from Reactive to Proactive

Mar 07, 2025Software Security / AppSec
Are you tired of dealing with outdated security tools that never seem to give you the full picture? You're not alone. Many organizations struggle with piecing together scattered information, leaving your apps vulnerable to modern threats. That's why we're excited to introduce a smarter, unified approach: Application Security Posture Management (ASPM). ASPM brings together the best of both worlds by connecting your code insights with real-time runtime data. This means you get a clear, holistic view of your application's security. Instead of reacting to threats, ASPM helps you prevent them. Imagine reducing costly retrofits and emergency patches with a proactive, shift-left strategy—saving you time, money, and stress. Join Amir Kaushansky, Director of Product Management at Palo Alto Networks, as he walks you through how ASPM is changing the game. In this free webinar , you'll learn to: Close the Security Gaps: Understand why traditional AppSec tools fall short and how ASPM fills ...
