Google Fixes CVSS 10 Gemini CLI CI RCE and Cursor Flaws Enable Code Execution

Apr 30, 2026 AI Security / Vulnerability
Google has addressed a maximum severity security flaw in Gemini CLI -- the "@google/gemini-cli" npm package and the "google-github-actions/run-gemini-cli" GitHub Actions workflow -- that could have allowed attackers to execute arbitrary commands on host systems. "The vulnerability allowed an unprivileged external attacker to force their own malicious content to load as Gemini configuration," Novee Security said in a Wednesday report. "This triggered command execution directly on the host system, bypassing security before the agent’s sandbox even initialized." The shortcoming, which does not have a CVE identifier, carries a CVSS score of 10.0. It affects the following versions - @google/gemini-cli < 0.39.1 @google/gemini-cli < 0.40.0-preview.3 google-github-actions/run-gemini-cli < 0.1.22 In its advisory published last week, Google said the impact is limited to workflows using Gemini CLI in headless mode, adding that any use of...

LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

Apr 29, 2026 Vulnerability / Cloud Security
In yet another instance of threat actors quickly jumping on the exploitation bandwagon, a newly disclosed critical security flaw in BerriAI's LiteLLM Python package has come under active exploitation in the wild within 36 hours of the bug becoming public knowledge. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-42208 (CVSS score: 9.3), is an SQL injection that could be exploited to modify the underlying LiteLLM proxy database. "A database query used during proxy API key checks mixed the caller-supplied key value into the query text instead of passing it as a separate parameter," LiteLLM maintainers said in an alert last week. "An unauthenticated attacker could send a specially crafted Authorization header to any LLM API route (for example, POST /chat/completions) and reach this query through the proxy's error-handling path. An attacker could read data from the proxy's database and may be able to modify it, leading to unauthorized access to the proxy and the c...
Researchers Discover Critical GitHub CVE-2026-3854 RCE Flaw Exploitable via Single Git Push

Researchers Discover Critical GitHub CVE-2026-3854 RCE Flaw Exploitable via Single Git Push

Apr 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Software Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a critical security vulnerability impacting GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Server that could allow an authenticated user to obtain remote code execution with a single "git push" command. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-3854 (CVSS score: 8.7), is a case of command injection that could allow an attacker with push access to a repository to achieve remote code execution on the instance. "During a git push operation, user-supplied push option values were not properly sanitized before being included in internal service headers," per a GitHub advisory for the vulnerability. "Because the internal header format used a delimiter character that could also appear in user input, an attacker could inject additional metadata fields through crafted push option values." Google-owned cloud security firm Wiz has been credited with discovering and reporting the issue on March 4, 2026, with GitHub validating and deployi...

Brazilian LofyGang Resurfaces After Three Years With Minecraft LofyStealer Campaign

Apr 28, 2026 Malware / Supply Chain Attack
A cybercrime group of Brazilian origin has resurfaced after more than three years to orchestrate a campaign that targets Minecraft players with a new stealer called LofyStealer (aka GrabBot). "The malware disguises itself as a Minecraft hack called 'Slinky,'" Brazil-based cybersecurity company ZenoX said in a technical report. "It uses the official game icon to induce voluntary execution, exploiting the trust of young users in the gaming scene." The activity has been attributed with high confidence to a threat actor known as LofyGang , which was observed leveraging typosquatted packages on the npm registry to push stealer malware in 2022, specifically with an intent to siphon credit card data and user accounts associated with Discord Nitro, gaming, and streaming services. The group, believed to be active since late 2021, advertises their tools and services on platforms like GitHub and YouTube, while also contributing to an underground hacking communit...

Checkmarx Confirms GitHub Repository Data Posted on Dark Web After March 23 Attack

Apr 27, 2026
Checkmarx has disclosed that its ongoing investigation tied to the supply chain security incident has revealed that a cybercriminal group published data related to the company on the dark web. "Based on current evidence, we believe this data originated from Checkmarx's GitHub repository, and that access to that repository was facilitated through the initial supply chain attack of March 23, 2026," the Israeli security company said . It also emphasized that the GitHub repository is maintained separately from its customer production environment, adding that no customer data is stored in the repository. Checkmarx said its forensic probe into the incident is ongoing and that it's actively working to verify the nature and scope of the posted data. Furthermore, the company said it has locked down access to the affected GitHub repository as part of its incident response efforts. "If we determine that customer information was involved in this incident, we will notify...

Tropic Trooper Uses Trojanized SumatraPDF and GitHub to Deploy AdaptixC2

Apr 24, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
Chinese-speaking individuals are the target of a new campaign that uses a trojanized version of SumatraPDF reader to deploy the AdaptixC2 Beacon post-exploitation agent and ultimately facilitate the abuse of Microsoft Visual Studio Code (VS Code) tunnels for remote access. Zscaler ThreatLabz, which discovered the campaign last month, has attributed it with high confidence to Tropic Trooper (aka APT23, Earth Centaur, KeyBoy, and Pirate Panda), a hacking group known for its targeting of various entities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. It's assessed to be active since at least 2011. "The threat actors created a custom AdaptixC2 Beacon listener, leveraging GitHub as their command-and-control (C2) platform," security researcher Yin Hong Chang said in an analysis. It's believed that Chinese-speaking individuals in Taiwan, and individuals in South Korea and Japan, are the targets of the campaign. The starting point of the attack is a ZIP archive containing...
Bitwarden CLI Compromised in Ongoing Checkmarx Supply Chain Campaign

Bitwarden CLI Compromised in Ongoing Checkmarx Supply Chain Campaign

Apr 23, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Open Source
Bitwarden CLI , the command-line interface for the password manager Bitwarden, has reportedly been compromised as part of a newly discovered and ongoing Checkmarx supply chain campaign , according to findings from JFrog and Socket. "The affected package version appears to be @bitwarden/cli@2026.4.0 , and the malicious code was published in 'bw1.js,' a file included in the package contents," the application security company said . "The attack appears to have leveraged a compromised GitHub Action in Bitwarden's CI/CD pipeline, consistent with the pattern seen across other affected repositories in this campaign." In a post on X, JFrog said the rogue version of the package "steals GitHub/npm tokens, .ssh, .env, shell history, GitHub Actions and cloud secrets, then exfiltrates the data to private domains and as GitHub commits." Specifically, the malicious code is executed by means of a preinstall hook, resulting in the theft of local, CI, Git...
Google Patches Antigravity IDE Flaw Enabling Prompt Injection Code Execution

Google Patches Antigravity IDE Flaw Enabling Prompt Injection Code Execution

Apr 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a vulnerability in Google's agentic integrated development environment (IDE), Antigravity, that could be exploited to achieve code execution. The flaw, since patched, combines Antigravity's permitted file-creation capabilities with an insufficient input sanitization in Antigravity's native file-searching tool, find_by_name, to bypass the program's Strict Mode , a restrictive security configuration that limits network access, prevents out-of-workspace writes, and ensures all commands are being run within a sandbox context . "By injecting the -X (exec-batch) flag through the Pattern parameter [in the find_by_name tool], an attacker can force fd to execute arbitrary binaries against workspace files," Pillar Security researcher Dan Lisichkin said in an analysis. "Combined with Antigravity's ability to create files as a permitted action, this enables a full attack chain: stage a malicious script, then trigger ...
DPRK-Linked Hackers Use GitHub as C2 in Multi-Stage Attacks Targeting South Korea

DPRK-Linked Hackers Use GitHub as C2 in Multi-Stage Attacks Targeting South Korea

Apr 06, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
Threat actors likely associated with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have been observed using GitHub as command-and-control (C2) infrastructure in multi-stage attacks targeting organizations in South Korea. The attack chain, per Fortinet FortiGuard Labs , involves obfuscated Windows shortcut (LNK) files acting as the starting point to drop a decoy PDF document and a PowerShell script that sets the stage for the next phase of the attack. It's assessed that these LNK files are distributed via phishing emails. As soon as the payloads are downloaded, the victim is displayed the PDF document, while the malicious PowerShell script runs silently in the background. The PowerShell script performs checks to resist analysis by scanning for running processes related to virtual machines, debuggers, and forensic tools. If any of those processes are detected, the script immediately terminates. Otherwise, it extracts a Visual Basic Scri...

36 Malicious npm Packages Exploited Redis, PostgreSQL to Deploy Persistent Implants

Apr 05, 2026 Malware / DevSecOps
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered 36 malicious packages in the npm registry that are disguised as Strapi CMS plugins but come with different payloads to facilitate Redis and PostgreSQL exploitation, deploy reverse shells, harvest credentials, and drop a persistent implant. "Every package contains three files (package.json, index.js, postinstall.js), has no description, repository, or homepage, and uses version 3.6.8 to appear as a mature Strapi v3 community plugin," SafeDep said . All identified npm packages follow the same naming convention, starting with "strapi-plugin-" and then phrases like "cron," "database," or "server" to fool unsuspecting developers into downloading them. It's worth noting that the official Strapi plugins are scoped under "@strapi/." The packages, uploaded by four sock puppet accounts "umarbek1233," "kekylf12," "tikeqemif26," and "umar_bektembiev1...

Researchers Uncover Mining Operation Using ISO Lures to Spread RATs and Crypto Miners

Apr 02, 2026 Cryptomining / Malware
A financially motivated operation codenamed REF1695  has been observed leveraging fake installers to deploy remote access trojans (RATs) and cryptocurrency miners since November 2023. "Beyond cryptomining, the threat actor monetizes infections through CPA (Cost Per Action) fraud, directing victims to content locker pages under the guise of software registration," Elastic Security Labs researchers Jia Yu Chan, Cyril François, and Remco Sprooten said in an analysis published this week. Recent iterations of the campaign have also been found to deliver a previously undocumented .NET implant codenamed CNB Bot. These attacks leverage an ISO file as the infection vector to deliver a .NET Reactor-protected loader and a text file with explicit instructions to the user to bypass Microsoft Defender SmartScreen protections against running unrecognized applications by clicking on "More info" and "Run anyway...
OpenAI Patches ChatGPT Data Exfiltration Flaw and Codex GitHub Token Vulnerability

OpenAI Patches ChatGPT Data Exfiltration Flaw and Codex GitHub Token Vulnerability

Mar 30, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
A previously unknown vulnerability in OpenAI ChatGPT allowed sensitive conversation data to be exfiltrated without user knowledge or consent, according to new findings from Check Point. "A single malicious prompt could turn an otherwise ordinary conversation into a covert exfiltration channel, leaking user messages, uploaded files, and other sensitive content," the cybersecurity company said in a report published today. "A backdoored GPT could abuse the same weakness to obtain access to user data without the user's awareness or consent." Following responsible disclosure, OpenAI addressed the issue on February 20, 2026. There is no evidence that the issue was ever exploited in a malicious context. While ChatGPT is built with various guardrails to prevent unauthorized data sharing or generate direct outbound network requests , the newly discovered vulnerability bypasses these safeguards entirely by exploiting a side channel originating from the Linux runtime ...
The State of Secrets Sprawl 2026: 9 Takeaways for CISOs

The State of Secrets Sprawl 2026: 9 Takeaways for CISOs

Mar 30, 2026 DevOps / Artificial Intelligence
Secrets sprawl isn't slowing down: in 2025, it accelerated faster than most security teams anticipated. GitGuardian's State of Secrets Sprawl 2026 report analyzed billions of commits across public GitHub and uncovered 29 million new hardcoded secrets in 2025 alone, a 34% increase year over year and the largest single-year jump ever recorded. This year's findings reveal three core trends: AI has fundamentally reshaped how and where credentials leak, internal systems are far more exposed than most organizations realize, and remediation continues to be the industry's Achilles heel. Here are nine strategic takeaways that matter. 1. Secrets are growing faster than the developer population Since 2021, leaked secrets have grown 152%, while GitHub's public developer base expanded 98%. More developers and more AI-assisted code generation mean more credentials in circulation, and detection alone can't keep pace. 2. AI services drove 81% more leaks year over year ...

TeamPCP Hacks Checkmarx GitHub Actions Using Stolen CI Credentials

Mar 24, 2026 DevSecOps / Vulnerability
Two more GitHub Actions workflows have become the latest to be compromised by credential-stealing malware by a threat actor known as TeamPCP, the cloud-native cybercriminal operation also behind the Trivy supply chain attack . The workflows, both maintained by the supply chain security company Checkmarx, are listed below - checkmarx/ast-github-action checkmarx/kics-github-action Cloud security company Sysdig said it observed an identical credential stealer as the one used in TeamPCP's operations targeting Aqua Security's Trivy vulnerability scanner and its associated GitHub Actions, about four days after the breach on March 19, 2026. The Trivy supply chain compromise is being tracked under the CVE identifier CVE-2026-33634 (CVSS score: 9.4). "This suggests that the stolen credentials from the Trivy compromise were used to poison additional actions in affected repositories," Sysdig said . The stealer, referred to as "TeamPCP Cloud stealer," is desig...
North Korean Hackers Abuse VS Code Auto-Run Tasks to Deploy StoatWaffle Malware

North Korean Hackers Abuse VS Code Auto-Run Tasks to Deploy StoatWaffle Malware

Mar 23, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
The North Korean threat actors behind the Contagious Interview campaign, also tracked as WaterPlum, have been attributed to a malware family tracked as StoatWaffle that's distributed via malicious Microsoft Visual Studio Code (VS Code) projects. The use of VS Code "tasks.json" to distribute malware is a relatively new tactic adopted by the threat actor since December 2025 , with the attacks leveraging the "runOn: folderOpen" option to automatically trigger its execution every time any file in the project folder is opened in VS Code. "This task is configured so that it downloads data from a web application on Vercel regardless of executing OS [operating system]," NTT Security said in a report published last week. "Though we assume that the executing OS is Windows in this article, the essential behaviors are the same for any OS." The downloaded payload first checks whether Node.js is installed in the executing environment. If it's ab...

Trivy Hack Spreads Infostealer via Docker, Triggers Worm and Kubernetes Wiper

Mar 23, 2026 Cloud Security / DevOps
Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered malicious artifacts distributed via Docker Hub following the Trivy supply chain attack , highlighting the widening blast radius across developer environments. The last known clean release of Trivy on Docker Hub is 0.69.3. The malicious versions 0.69.4, 0.69.5, and 0.69.6 have since been removed from the container image library. "New image tags 0.69.5 and 0.69.6 were pushed on March 22 without corresponding GitHub releases or tags. Both images contain indicators of compromise associated with the same TeamPCP infostealer observed in earlier stages of this campaign," Socket security researcher Philipp Burckhardt said . The development comes in the wake a supply chain compromise of Trivy, a popular open-source vulnerability scanner maintained by Aqua Security, allowing the threat actors to leverage a compromised credential to push a credential stealer within trojanized versions of the tool and two related GitHub Actions "aquasec...

Trivy Security Scanner GitHub Actions Breached, 75 Tags Hijacked to Steal CI/CD Secrets

Mar 20, 2026 DevSecOps / Cloud Security
Trivy, a popular open-source vulnerability scanner maintained by Aqua Security, was compromised a second time within the span of a month to deliver malware capable of stealing sensitive CI/CD secrets. The latest incident impacted GitHub Actions " aquasecurity/trivy-action " and " aquasecurity/setup-trivy ," which are used to scan Docker container images for vulnerabilities and set up GitHub Actions workflow with a specific version of the scanner, respectively. "We identified that an attacker force-pushed 75 out of 76 version tags in the aquasecurity/trivy-action repository, the official GitHub Action for running Trivy vulnerability scans in CI/CD pipelines," Socket security researcher Philipp Burckhardt said . "These tags were modified to serve a malicious payload, effectively turning trusted version references into a distribution mechanism for an infostealer." The payload executes within GitHub Actions runners and aims to extract valuable de...
