New TrickMo Variant Uses TON C2 and SOCKS5 to Create Android Network Pivots

New TrickMo Variant Uses TON C2 and SOCKS5 to Create Android Network Pivots

May 12, 2026 Malware / Mobile Security
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a new version of the TrickMo Android banking trojan that uses The Open Network (TON) for command-and-control (C2). The new variant, observed by ThreatFabric between January and February 2026, has been observed actively targeting banking and cryptocurrency wallet users in France, Italy, and Austria. "TrickMo relies on a runtime-loaded APK  (dex.module), used also by the previous variant, but updated with new features adding new network-oriented functionality, including reconnaissance, SSH tunnelling, and SOCKS5 proxying capabilities that allow infected devices to function as programmable network pivots and traffic-exit nodes," the Dutch mobile security company said in a report shared with The Hacker News. TrickMo is the name assigned to a device takeover (DTO) malware that's been active in the wild since late 2019. It was first flagged by CERT-Bund and IBM X-Force , describing its ability to abuse Android's accessibility ser...

Deepfakes. Fake Recruiters. Cloned CFOs — Learn How to Stop AI-Driven Attacks in Real Time

Jul 16, 2025 AI Security / Fraud Detection
Social engineering attacks have entered a new era—and they’re coming fast, smart, and deeply personalized. It’s no longer just suspicious emails in your spam folder. Today’s attackers use generative AI, stolen branding assets, and deepfake tools to mimic your executives, hijack your social channels, and create convincing fakes of your website, emails, and even voice. They don’t just spoof— they impersonate. Modern attackers aren’t relying on chance. They’re running long-term, multi-channel campaigns across email, LinkedIn, SMS, and even support portals—targeting your employees, customers, and partners. Whether it’s a fake recruiter reaching out on LinkedIn, a lookalike login page sent via text, or a cloned CFO demanding a wire transfer, the tactics are faster, more adaptive, and increasingly automated using AI. The result? Even trained users are falling for sophisticated fakes—because they’re not just phishing links anymore. They’re operations. This Webinar Shows You How to Fight...
Ghost Tap: Hackers Exploiting NFCGate to Steal Funds via Mobile Payments

Ghost Tap: Hackers Exploiting NFCGate to Steal Funds via Mobile Payments

Nov 20, 2024 Payment Security / Cybercrime
Threat actors are increasingly banking on a new technique that leverages near-field communication (NFC) to cash out victim's funds at scale. The technique, codenamed Ghost Tap by ThreatFabric, enables cybercriminals to cash-out money from stolen credit cards linked to mobile payment services such as Google Pay or Apple Pay and relaying NFC traffic. "Criminals can now misuse Google Pay and Apple Pay to transmit your tap-to-pay information globally within seconds," the Dutch security company told The Hacker News in a statement. "This means that even without your physical card or phone, they can make payments from your account anywhere in the world." These attacks typically work by tricking victims into downloading mobile banking malware that can capture their banking credentials and one-time passwords using an overlay attack or a keylogger. Alternatively, it can involve a voice phishing component. Once in possession of the card details, the threat actors m...
