Attackers Chain JFrog Artifactory Flaws to Gain Admin Control and Plant Backdoors

Attackers Chain JFrog Artifactory Flaws to Gain Admin Control and Plant Backdoors

сент. 11, 2026 Vulnerability / DevOps
Attackers have chained two flaws in JFrog Artifactory , the repository that software build pipelines pull from, to take administrator control of self-hosted servers and plant backdoors, cloud security company Wiz said in a report. Wiz saw the attacks between August 15 and September 8. JFrog had fixed both flaws before then, so only servers that had not been updated were open to them. Neither flaw gives administrator control on its own. CVE-2026-42018 makes Artifactory hand an internal anonymous-user token to a caller who has not logged in, even when anonymous access is turned off. CVE-2026-42016 then allows that low-privilege token to be swapped for one with administrator scope, because Artifactory checks a token's signature and who issued it, but not what the token is allowed to do. Every case Wiz saw followed a similar pattern. The attacker sent an unauthenticated request to a token endpoint and received a token for the internal anonymous user, then exchanged it ...
Critical GitLab GraphQL Flaw Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Delete Public Projects

Critical GitLab GraphQL Flaw Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Delete Public Projects

авг. 17, 2026 Vulnerability / DevOps
GitLab has released security updates to address a critical vulnerability impacting its Community Edition (CE) and Enterprise Edition (EE) software that, under certain conditions, could allow an unauthenticated attacker to remotely modify or delete public projects and user data. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-19478 , has been rated Critical by GitLab and assigned a CVSS score of 9.4. Released on August 17, 2026, the critical patch release arrived outside the company's usual schedule of twice-monthly updates on the second and fourth Wednesdays, five days after a routine patch release that carried no critical-rated issues. Only self-managed installations need to act. The fixes are available in GitLab 19.2.4, 19.1.6, 19.0.8, and 18.11.11 . "GitLab.com and GitLab Dedicated are already running the patched version. GitLab.com and GitLab Dedicated customers do not need to take action," the company said. The following versions are affected - All versions from 18.2 ...
Critical Gitea Flaw Let Unauthenticated Attackers Read Server Files via Org-Mode Markup

Critical Gitea Flaw Let Unauthenticated Attackers Read Server Files via Org-Mode Markup

авг. 05, 2026 Vulnerability / DevOps
An unauthenticated attacker can read any file the service account can access on Gitea , the self-hosted Git platform, in versions 1.22.1 through 1.27.0. No login, no repository write access. A public repository and crafted Org-mode markup are enough. The flaw is fixed in Gitea 1.27.1. The file-read flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-59774 , rated Critical with a CVSS score of 9.8, and received its formal advisory on August 2. Gitea 1.27.1 also patches CVE-2026-60004 , a separate remote code execution bug covered in a prior THN report . Gitea said Cloud instances would be upgraded automatically during the release maintenance window. Self-hosted administrators should move to 1.27.1 immediately. The file-read bug is not direct one-request remote code execution. Gitea says it can become command execution if an attacker reads app.ini , extracts INTERNAL_TOKEN , injects a Git hook through the internal logger, and triggers that hook during an anonymous clone. That chain is described in Gite...

Poisoned Ruby Gems and Go Modules Exploit CI Pipelines for Credential Theft

Poisoned Ruby Gems and Go Modules Exploit CI Pipelines for Credential Theft

мая 01, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Malware
A new software supply chain attack campaign has been observed using sleeper packages as a conduit to subsequently push malicious payloads that enabled credential theft, GitHub Actions tampering, and SSH persistence. The activity has been attributed to the GitHub account " BufferZoneCorp ," which has published a set of repositories that are associated with malicious Ruby gems and Go modules. As of writing, the packages have been yanked from RubyGems, and the Go modules have been blocked. The names of the libraries are listed below - Ruby: knot-activesupport-logger knot-devise-jwt-helper knot-rack-session-store knot-rails-assets-pipeline knot-rspec-formatter-json knot-date-utils-rb (Sleeper gem) knot-simple-formatter (Sleeper gem) Go: github[.]com/BufferZoneCorp/go-metrics-sdk github[.]com/BufferZoneCorp/go-weather-sdk github[.]com/BufferZoneCorp/go-retryablehttp github[.]com/BufferZoneCorp/go-stdlib-ext github[.]com/BufferZoneCorp/grpc-client github[.]com...
Trivy Supply Chain Attack Triggers Self-Spreading CanisterWorm Across 47 npm Packages

Trivy Supply Chain Attack Triggers Self-Spreading CanisterWorm Across 47 npm Packages

мар. 21, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
The threat actors behind the supply chain attack targeting the popular Trivy scanner are suspected to be conducting follow-on attacks that have led to the compromise of a large number of npm packages with a previously undocumented self-propagating worm dubbed CanisterWorm . The name is a reference to the fact that the malware uses an ICP canister , which denotes a tamperproof smart contract on the Internet Computer blockchain, as a dead drop resolver . The development marks the first publicly documented abuse of an ICP canister for the explicit purpose of fetching the command-and-control (C2) server, Aikido Security researcher Charlie Eriksen said . The list of affected packages is below - 28 packages in the @EmilGroup scope 16 packages in the @opengov scope @teale.io/eslint-config @airtm/uuid-base32 @pypestream/floating-ui-dom The development comes within a day after threat actors leveraged a compromised credential to publish malicious trivy, trivy-action, and setup-triv...
Lean Teams, Higher Stakes: Why CISOs Must Rethink Incident Remediation

Lean Teams, Higher Stakes: Why CISOs Must Rethink Incident Remediation

сент. 23, 2025 DevOps Security / Cloud Security
Big companies are getting smaller, and their CEOs want everyone to know it . Wells Fargo has cut its workforce by 23% over five years, Bank of America has shed 88,000 employees since 2010, and Verizon's CEO recently boasted that headcount is "going down all the time." What was once a sign of corporate distress has become a badge of honor, with executives celebrating lean operations and AI-driven efficiency. But while C-suite leaders tout "doing more with less," CISOs are left with fewer resources, while every preventable security incident becomes exponentially costlier. With security teams already stretched thin and developer-to-security ratios reaching unsustainable levels, these workforce reductions push already distressed teams past their breaking point. Against this backdrop of workforce optimization, hardcoded secrets represent a particularly dangerous blind spot that can no longer be managed through manual processes and reactive firefighting. The Number...
