China-Aligned Bronze Sandcastle Abuses Sandboxie DLL Sideloading to Deploy Backdoors

China-Aligned Bronze Sandcastle Abuses Sandboxie DLL Sideloading to Deploy Backdoors

Eki 21, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Malware
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a previously undocumented China-aligned threat cluster known as Bronze Sandcastle that has been observed targeting organizations in Asia and Africa since mid-2025. "The most distinctive technical marker for Bronze Sandcastle is its consistent use of Sandboxie DLL sideloading," Sophos security researcher Gabor Szappanos said in a post published Tuesday. Between August 2025 and August 2026, attacks mounted by the threat actor have resulted in victims in the Philippines, Taiwan, Afghanistan, Namibia, and likely South Korea. Evidence indicates that Bronze Sandcastle is most active in the UTC+8 time zone.  DLL sideloading is a popular adversarial technique that exploits the way Windows loads DLL files, allowing an attacker to trick a legitimate program into loading a malicious DLL . When an application is launched, it needs to load various DLLs in order to function correctly. If the application does not provide the f...
Attackers Hijacked Over 300 Tor Exit Relays to Intercept SSH Connections

Attackers Hijacked Over 300 Tor Exit Relays to Intercept SSH Connections

Eki 21, 2026 Network Security / Cyber Espionage
Attackers took control of more than 300 Tor exit relays in early October and used them to redirect SSH connections to servers that stole login passwords, a researcher found. Exit relays are the last hop in a Tor circuit, where traffic leaves the network for its destination. Only a password login to an SSH server made through Tor between October 1 and 5, after accepting the interception server's host key, could have been captured. The Tor Project began flagging relays on October 4, and by October 5, none remained in the consensus, the list of relays that Tor clients use. At the peak on October 4, the relays carrying the attacker's exit policy made up 7.46% of Tor's exit capacity, measured by consensus weight, according to an  analysis of public Tor directory data  posted to the tor-relays mailing list. The researcher, who publishes as kaba,  scanned  all of Tor's roughly 3,000 exits on October 2 and found 333 redirecting SSH to the same 12 interception servers...

Attackers Abuse UpdraftCentral Keys to Plant Backdoors on WordPress Sites

Eki 21, 2026 Cyber Attack / Web Security
Unknown threat actors breached TeamUpdraft's website and potentially gained unauthorized access to customers' connection keys for UpdraftCentral, UpdraftVault, and UpdraftClone, using them to backdoor WordPress sites. TeamUpdraft is the developer behind UpdraftPlus, a popular WordPress backup plugin with over four million active installations. The vendor also offers UpdraftCentral, a remote management service that's used for managing multiple sites remotely. A client component of UpdraftCentral is shipped within every copy of UpdraftPlus.  "Over the weekend of 17-18 October we identified unauthorized access to the teamupdraft.com website," TeamUpdraft said in a statement. "Our team responded straight away and worked through the night to contain it – we closed the access route, signed out every account and replaced the keys and credentials that could have been affected." As a result of the incident, threat actors are believed to have accessed its ...

The issues were addressed in Plex Media ...
Hackers Hid Vasilek Backdoor in VMware Tools During 2-Year Russian Healthcare Intrusion

Hackers Hid Vasilek Backdoor in VMware Tools During 2-Year Russian Healthcare Intrusion

Eki 21, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Threat Intelligence
A Belarus-aligned hacktivist group spent nearly two years within the network of a Russian healthcare organization. According to a report published by Russian cybersecurity firm Solar, the activity has been attributed to a threat cluster dubbed Partisan Zmiy , which is also known as the Cyber Partisans . Known to be active since at least 2020, the group has a track record of striking industrial enterprises and government agencies in Russia and Belarus with a backdoor called Vasilek that uses Telegram for command-and-control (C2) and data exfiltration. Some of the attacks have also leveraged phishing lures to deliver an installer that simultaneously deploys the legitimate FortiClient VPN program on the system as well as an open-source program known as DNSCat2 that allows attackers to gain control of the infected host. A notable aspect of the threat actor is their ability to stage destructive attacks with a wiper referred to as Pryanik, alongside taking steps to systematical...

Qilin and INC Ransomware Groups Exploit Palo Alto Networks Flaw to Bypass MFA

Eki 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
Palo Alto Networks has disclosed that it's continuing to observe exploitation of a now-patched security flaw impacting  PAN-OS and Prisma Access by ransomware actors. The activity relates to CVE-2026-0257 (CVSS score: 7.8), an authentication bypass flaw that could be exploited by bad actors to set up unauthorized VPN connections. It was patched by Palo Alto Networks in May 2026 and was added by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CSIA) to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog on May 13, 2026. "Ransomware operators exploiting CVE-2026-0257 include Spikey Scorpius (aka Qilin) and Tarnished Scorpius (aka INC)," Unit 42 researchers said in an update shared on Monday. The development comes days after ReliaQuest said it detected both Qilin and Settra ransomware groups actively exploiting the flaw in financially-motivated attacks. According to Unit 42, the threat actors are weaponizing the flaw to gain an initial foothold into corpo...
Hackers Use Autonomous AI Agents to Breach Company Websites, Target Over 1,200 Sites

Hackers Use Autonomous AI Agents to Breach Company Websites, Target Over 1,200 Sites

Eki 20, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Cyber Attack
A Chinese-speaking criminal pointed autonomous AI agents at company websites and let them break in with almost no help, and a security researcher watched it happen because the operators left their control panels open on the internet. The agents tried more than 1,200 sites and reached websites belonging to more than 100 companies, including farm-equipment maker Deere, appliance company SharkNinja and engine maker Cummins,  according to Reuters , which reviewed the attacker's own records to identify them. How much data, if any, was taken is not known. The researcher, Snorre Fagerland of the security firm NorForge , found the operations by scanning the internet for exposed copies of  Cairn , an open-source AI tool popular with hackers. Beginning around October 2, he found about two dozen Cairn instances being used maliciously, which let him read the attackers' work in real time. He set out the findings on Monday, and Reuters, which saw the report before publication, named...
Russian APT28 Breaches NATO Naval Shipbuilder in NATO Country, Deploys New Reflective Loader

Russian APT28 Breaches NATO Naval Shipbuilder in NATO Country, Deploys New Reflective Loader

Eki 20, 2026 Cyber Espionage / Cyber Attack
The Russia-linked state-sponsored threat actor tracked as APT28 (aka BlueDelta, Fancy Bear, and Forest Blizzard) has been attributed to attacks targeting two member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Symantec Threat Hunter Team, which is tracking the activity cluster under the moniker Swallowtail , involved the use of a backdoor called HOOKEDGE and a previously undocumented loader that is designed to decrypt and run an encrypted payload in memory by using a cryptographic key that's supplied at runtime. Targets of the activity included a law enforcement agency, a naval shipbuilder, and a manufacturer of military aircraft engines – entities that hold information that could be of use to a foreign intelligence agency, the Broadcom-owned threat intelligence unit said. "During one attack against the naval shipbuilder, operators returned to a compromised host repeatedly over the course of a week in what appeared to be hands-on-keyboard activity,...
Hackers Hijack Five OVHcloud CLI Releases to Distribute Secret-Stealing Malware

Hackers Hijack Five OVHcloud CLI Releases to Distribute Secret-Stealing Malware

Eki 20, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Cyber Attack
An attacker used a contributor's GitHub account to replace the download archives on five existing releases of OVHcloud's command-line tool on Monday, October 19. The account had been hijacked, and the new files were a build designed to steal secrets stored on the disk of any machine that runs it, the cloud provider says. They were live on GitHub for up to 94 minutes, from 12:47 to 14:21 UTC, and reached only people who installed or updated the OVHcloud CLI during that window, via a path that checks for no hash, on macOS, Linux x86_64 or arm64, or Windows x86_64. OVHcloud deleted the swapped archives and published a clean  v0.16.0  that evening as an immutable release, whose files GitHub will not let anyone change. The source code, the release tag, and the company's build pipeline were not touched: the bad build was a plain go build of a later commit, uploaded straight onto releases published between April and September. Who Was Exposed On v0.15.0, the attac...
Hackers Exploit Plex2Shell Flaws to Install Crypto Miners and Linux Proxy Backdoor

Hackers Exploit Plex2Shell Flaws to Install Crypto Miners and Linux Proxy Backdoor

Eki 19, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a chain of vulnerabilities in Plex Media Server to deploy cryptocurrency miners and reverse proxy software, a day after a proof-of-concept (PoC) went public. According to a researcher who goes by the online alias boredhackerblog , the exploitation activity involves chaining four different vulnerabilities, collectively called Plex2Shell . The vulnerabilities are below - CVE-2026-96652 (CVSS score: 5.3) - An unauthenticated server-side request forgery (SSRF) stemming via the "/player/timeline" endpoint by taking advantage of the fact that the "protocol" parameter is inserted into a programmatically-constructed player URL with no validation, allowing an attacker to force the Plex server to POST to a destination of their choice. CVE-2026-96654 (CVSS score: 6.9) - An improper neutralization of URL values included in the "searchOne" endpoint that could allow an attacker to call other plugins' functions and...
GhostAction Attackers Plant Credential Stealer Disguised as Font in 94 GitHub Repositories

GhostAction Attackers Plant Credential Stealer Disguised as Font in 94 GitHub Repositories

Eki 19, 2026 Developer Security / Supply Chain
The threat actor behind the GhostAction supply chain attack has expanded beyond injecting malicious GitHub Actions workflows into compromised projects to phish open-source developers and deliver a stealer malware disguised within a fake font file. The latest evolution, detailed by OpenSourceMalware, signals that the attackers are actively refining their modus operandi in response to steps taken by GitHub to prevent the workflow from running. According to the threat intelligence platform, the threat actor registered the domain " my-github[.]com " and pointed it at " 193.32.204[.]199 ," the same IP address that's used as an exfiltration endpoint for data harvested from running the malicious workflow. The domain was registered on October 9, 2026, 17 days after " my-gitlab[.]com " was registered. There is no evidence at this stage to suggest that the two code-hosting-themed domains are operated by the same threat actor. "It follows the sam...
OpenCode Console Breach May Have Exposed OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google API Keys

OpenCode Console Breach May Have Exposed OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google API Keys

Eki 19, 2026 Data Breach / Artificial Intelligence
An intruder reached a legacy system at OpenCode on the night of October 16 and may have exposed the third-party AI provider keys that users had saved in OpenCode Console, the company said. Console is OpenCode's optional hosted service: a workspace saves its own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google key there, and Console uses that key to call the provider so team members can use the models without ever seeing the key. The affected group is 1.4% of Console users, all of whom have an outside provider linked, and OpenCode has told them via email to revoke those keys with each provider and replace them. The email went out on the morning of October 17 under the subject line "Action Required: Potential provider key breach." Anyone who did not get one was not affected,  OpenCode said  in a post on X later that day. The keys at risk are the ones pasted into Console. The OpenCode command-line and desktop apps keep provider keys added on the machine in a  SQLite database  th...

CERT-In Warns AI Agents Accessed Sensitive Data at Indian Organizations During Testing

CERT-In Warns AI Agents Accessed Sensitive Data at Indian Organizations During Testing

Eki 16, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Data Security
AI agents being tested online reached the live systems of Indian organizations and read business records, including personal data and confidential material, CERT-In  said in an advisory  on October 15. The agents went beyond their assigned tasks, and none of the organizations detected the unauthorized access. After internal reviews, the AI companies whose models were being tested voluntarily reported the cases to CERT-In, India's national cyber agency. AI agents are software systems that can plan work, run commands, use tools, and act on the internet autonomously for extended periods. In these cases, the agents gained access via credentials and connection settings left exposed in application configuration and public code repositories, and via cloud service roles with excessive permissions. CERT-In did not name the AI companies, their models, or the organizations and sectors involved. It did not say how many companies reported cases or how many organizations were affecte...

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-0322 (CVSS score: 8.6), is a case of remote code execution in the management interface. "A remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in the management interface of Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS software enables an authenticated attacker with network access to execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the firewall," Palo Alto Networks said . The issue impacts PAN-OS software on PA-Series and VM-Series firewalls and on Panorama (virtual and M-Series). Cloud NGFW and Prisma Access are not affected by the vulnerability. Palo Alto Networks said that no special configuration is required to exploit the issue, but said the security risk can be minimized by restricting access to the management interface to only trusted internal IP addresses. "You can reduce the risk of exploitation by restr...
Attackers Heat French Supermarket Fridges Up to 50°C by Hijacking Danfoss Controllers

Attackers Heat French Supermarket Fridges Up to 50°C by Hijacking Danfoss Controllers

Eki 13, 2026 Cyber Attack / Network Security
Attackers took remote control of fridges and freezers at hundreds of French supermarkets on the night of October 11 and warmed them, forcing stores to throw food away, several retail chains said. The attackers reached them through the controller that runs all of a store's fridges and freezers, a device made by Danish company Danfoss that maintenance firms can manage remotely. Les Mousquetaires, which owns the Intermarché chain, said its fridges and freezers were put into defrost and heated to as much as 50°C. CERT-FR, the French government's computer emergency response team, said in an  alert published in French  on October 12 that it is aware of numerous compromises affecting two Danfoss controller series, the AK-SM and the AK-SC. It told operators to disconnect the controllers or filter access to them. CERT-FR is part of ANSSI, France's national cybersecurity agency. ANSSI's head, Vincent Strubel, called it urgent to take the two series off the internet or fil...

Attackers Target Rejetto HFS Flaw That Enables Admin Session Forgery and RCE

Eki 05, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
A critical security flaw impacting Rejetto HTTP File Server (HFS) is witnessing active exploitation attempts, according to VulnCheck. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-61500 (CVSS score: 9.3), a case of session forgery stemming from the use of a weak pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) that can lead to a predictable key, which an attacker can then use to gain unauthorized access and seize control of affected systems. "Rejetto HFS 3.0.0 through 3.2.0 derives its session-cookie signing key from the non-cryptographic Math.random() generator and discloses outputs of the same generator to unauthenticated clients during login," according to an advisory for the flaw. "A remote attacker can collect a small number of login responses, reconstruct the generator's state, recover the signing key, and forge a valid administrator session cookie, leading to full administrative access and remote code execution via the server_code configuration feature." Hori...
Hackers Use NeedyMantis to Maintain Long-Term Access in Breached Networks

Hackers Use NeedyMantis to Maintain Long-Term Access in Breached Networks

Eyl 28, 2026 Cyber Attack / Threat Intelligence
Hackers have used a malware family called NeedyMantis to maintain long-term access to networks they had already breached, Microsoft said in a technical analysis. The malware has been seen in a small number of targeted intrusions at telecommunications organizations, universities, medical nonprofits, intergovernmental organizations, and government contractors. Its use goes back to at least October 2025. Microsoft found NeedyMantis while following up on indicators from Kaspersky's investigation into the  supply chain attack on DAEMON Tools . In that attack, official, signed installers for the DAEMON Tools Lite disk image program carried malicious code from April 8, 2026. The developer replaced them with a clean version on May 5. Microsoft tracks the activity tied to that attack as Storm-3069. It says Storm-3069 is one group that uses NeedyMantis, though it has not seen the malware itself spread through a supply chain attack. Defenders can check their networks using the fi...

CISA Says Attackers Are Exploiting Two Critical Citrix NetScaler Flaws Globally

Eyl 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Sunday added two critical Citrix NetScaler ADC and Gateway flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, following reports of active exploitation. The vulnerabilities are listed below - CVE-2026-88771 (CVSS score: 9.5) - An improper input validation vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands.  CVE-2026-88772 (CVSS score: 9.5) - An improper restriction of operations within the bounds of a memory buffer vulnerability that could allow for remote code execution or denial-of-service. While CVE-2026-88771 affects all NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway deployments, CVE-2026-88772 requires the DTLS configuration to be enabled on NetScaler ADC or NetScaler Gateway, an option that is turned on by default on VPN virtual servers. The relevant configuration is as follows - add vpn vserver vpn1 SSL 10.0.0.0 443 -Listenpolicy NONE
MikroTrick Chain Let Attackers Take Over MikroTik Routers Without a Password or SSH Key

MikroTrick Chain Let Attackers Take Over MikroTik Routers Without a Password or SSH Key

Eyl 23, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
Two MikroTik RouterOS SSH vulnerabilities chained together let attackers take full administrative control of Internet-exposed routers without a password, SSH key, or completed authentication. The chain, which CERT Polska calls MikroTrick , combines an SSH state-machine flaw ( CVE-2026-67279 ) with an argument-injection bug in the RouterOS login process ( CVE-2026-86060 ). Attack logs date to at least September 2, one day before MikroTik shipped patches in RouterOS 6.49.21, 7.23.4, and 7.24.2. As  previously reported , CERT Polska warned on September 5 that attackers were using RouterOS flaws to take control of devices whose SSH service was reachable from public networks. That warning confirmed the exploitation and urged immediate patching but did not identify which two flaws formed the chain or explain how they combined. This latest analysis provides both. How the Chain Works SSH requires three steps in order: it establishes an encrypted connection, authentica...
