A bittersweet Christmas and New Year for users and fans of the most popular custom Android ROM, Cyanogen OS. Cyanogen that tried and failed to kill Google's Android operating system is now shutting down the custom services that it provides to phones that run its Cyanogen OS as we know it and the "nightly builds" of said OS on December 31st. Cyanogen came with an ambition to build better versions of the Android operating system than those created by Google itself, but following some technical and potential legal issues, the startup has decided to quit. The planned shutdown of Cyanogen was officially announced late Friday through a very brief blog post made by the company, saying "as part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen," it's shutting down all services and nightly builds on December 31. Dubbed Gello , the open-source browser is based on Google's Chromium project and includes a ton of customization options for Android. A vulnerability has been identified in Wiko Mobiles that could allow anyone to remotely  force it to shut down abruptly with a text message only. Wiko is  a two-year-old French Mobile manufacturing company known for its cheapest mobiles and smartphones. French  blogger Korben reported that just by sending a  Short Message Service (SMS) with text  "="  (without the quotes) to Wiko mobiles could force them to restart and  knock them off a cellular network. What if hackers could take an existing legitimate app or update with a valid digital signature, and modify it in order to use it as a malicious Trojan to access everything on your Android phone or tablet? Last week, researchers from Bluebox Security announced that the Android operating system has been vulnerable to hackers for the past four years, allowing them to modify or manipulate any legitimate application and enabling them to transform it into a Trojan programme. The bug hasn't, so far, been spotted being exploited in the wild, but technical details and a proof-of-concept exploit have been published for a recently announced publicly by Pau Oliva Fora, a mobile security engineer at security firm ViaForensics.
