HollowGraph Malware Hides C2 and Stolen Files in Microsoft 365 Events Dated 2050

HollowGraph Malware Hides C2 and Stolen Files in Microsoft 365 Events Dated 2050

Jul 20, 2026 Cyber Espionage / SaaS Security
A newly discovered espionage implant has been using a hijacked Microsoft 365 calendar as its command channel, planting operator instructions and smuggling out stolen files as attachments on calendar events dated to the year 2050. Group-IB , which named the malware HollowGraph , says the approach moves tasking and stolen data through legitimate Microsoft Graph API traffic, so the activity looks like ordinary Microsoft 365 chatter and network controls keyed to attacker-owned destinations have nothing to flag. The implant is a .NET DLL that supports just two commands, get and send , and it never reaches out to an attacker-owned server for payloads. Instead, it treats the compromised mailbox's calendar as a two-way dead drop. To pull tasking, it queries the calendar for an event the operator has planted, buried at 2050-05-13 , so the mailbox owner is unlikely to ever scroll to it, and reads its instructions from an attached file. To exfiltrate, it does the reverse: encrypts th...
Seven Malicious Vite npm Packages Use Blockchain C2 to Deliver a RAT

Seven Malicious Vite npm Packages Use Blockchain C2 to Deliver a RAT

Jul 17, 2026 Software Supply Chain / Malware
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a cluster of seven malicious npm packages targeting the Vite frontend tooling ecosystem as part of a software supply chain attack. The malicious package campaign, codenamed ViteVenom by Checkmarx, marks an expansion of ChainVeil , which was observed using an "unprecedented" four-tier blockchain-based command-and-control (C2) infrastructure spanning Tron, Aptos, and Binance Smart Chain to deliver a remote access trojan (RAT) capable reverse shell, credential harvesting, file exfiltration, and persistent backdoor injection. "This tactic makes disabling or destroying the C2 infrastructure extremely difficult," Checkmarx researcher Pavan Gudimalla said in an analysis published last month. The activity has been attributed to a threat actor named SuccessKey, with evidence of malicious activity detected as far back as February 27, 2026, when cryptocurrency wallets linked to ViteVenom were activated. While the typosquats pub...
New TELEPUZ Malware Spreads via ClickFix to Steal Data and Run Commands

New TELEPUZ Malware Spreads via ClickFix to Steal Data and Run Commands

Jul 16, 2026 Cybercrime / Endpoint Security
Cybersecurity researchers have called attention to a new modular malware called TELEPUZ that's been spreading via websites infected with ClickFix lures since late April 2026. "The malware is full-featured, lightweight, and modular," Elastic Security Labs researcher Cyril François said in a technical report. "While the number of C2 [command-and-control] domains is currently small, the daily volume of builds uploaded to VirusTotal and the rapid pace of updates indicate active development and likely further growth." The disclosure makes it the second new threat cluster after SCMBANKER to be propagated via ClickFix , a pervasive social engineering attack that tricks users into manually running malicious commands by disguising them as innocent fixes for fake browser errors, software updates, or CAPTCHA verifications. Underpinning the technique is an approach called clipboard hijacking. Because web pages using ClickFix inject malicious script or commands i...

TuxBot v3 Evolution Shows Signs of LLM-Assisted IoT Botnet Development

TuxBot v3 Evolution Shows Signs of LLM-Assisted IoT Botnet Development

Jul 15, 2026 IoT Security / Network Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a previously unreported Internet-of-Things (IoT) botnet framework dubbed TuxBot v3 Evolution that shows signs of being developed with assistance from a large language model (LLM), albeit with not so successful results. "While the AI complied with their request to generate botnet code, it included a safety disclaimer that the developer failed to remove before shipping," Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 said . "Although the LLM clearly aided in constructing the botnet, several functions in the analyzed samples failed to work correctly." The cybersecurity company said a manual code review would have resolved these errors and that it's possible more polished iterations of the malware exist out there in the wild. The botnet framework consists of multiple components: a C-based bot agent that cross-compiles for multiple architectures (e.g., ARM, MIPS, MIPSEL, MIPS64, x86_64, PowerPC, and RISC-V), a Go-based command-...
LabubaRAT Masquerades as NVIDIA Software to Control Windows Hosts

LabubaRAT Masquerades as NVIDIA Software to Control Windows Hosts

Jul 14, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a previously undocumented Rust-based remote access trojan (RAT) codenamed LabubaRAT that masquerades as NVIDIA software to blend into target environments. "LabubaRAT creates a reusable foothold for hands-on activity," Blackpoint Cyber researchers Sam Decker and Nevan Beal said in an analysis published today. "Once deployed, it can profile the host, identify security tools, receive operator commands, move files, capture screenshots, and proxy traffic through the affected system." The implant also supports multiple communication methods, including HTTPS, WebView2, and DNS tunneling, allowing attackers to maintain access to compromised hosts even if one pathway is detected and closed off. There are some signs that LabubuRAT is being offered under a malware-as-a-service (MaaS) model. The starting point of the attack chain is an executable named "nvidia-sysruntime.exe," which impersonates NVIDIA's container ru...
Silent Swap Crypto Clipper Uses Fake Google Notes Extension to Replace Wallet Addresses

Silent Swap Crypto Clipper Uses Fake Google Notes Extension to Replace Wallet Addresses

Jun 30, 2026 Browser Security / Cryptocurrency
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged an active browser extension campaign that is designed to steal cryptocurrency by stealthily replacing wallet addresses when unsuspecting users initiate a transaction. The cryptocurrency clipper activity has been codenamed Silent Swap by McAfee Labs. "The campaign is delivered through unsigned installers – observed in both .NET and Golang variants – that deploy a malicious Chromium extension masquerading as a benign 'Google Notes' utility," the cybersecurity company said in a technical report shared with The Hacker News. The unsigned .NET installer, named BaseZipInstaller, is designed to retrieve a ZIP archive, which serves as a foundation for the malicious browser extension by scanning the system for Chromium-based browsers. For each detected profile in those browsers, it forcibly terminates the browser process and injects the extension by modifying the Secure Preferences and Preferences files. The end goal of the ex...
New Gaslight macOS Malware Uses Prompt Injection to Disrupt AI-Assisted Analysis

New Gaslight macOS Malware Uses Prompt Injection to Disrupt AI-Assisted Analysis

Jun 25, 2026 AI Security / Malware
A previously undocumented Rust-based macOS implant and information stealer has been found to embed a prompt injection payload designed to trick a malware analyst's artificial intelligence (AI) tools and trick it into aborting or refusing an analysis of the artifact. The malware has been codenamed Gaslight owing to this deceptive behavior. It's been assessed with high confidence that the tool is the work of North Korea-aligned threat actors. "Its most notable feature is an embedded cascade of fabricated system-failure messages, designed to make an LLM-assisted triage agent doubt its own session," SentinelOne researcher Phil Stokes said in a technical report. "It attacks the agent's perception, rather than the sandbox it runs in." Central to the malware's architecture is a Telegram bot API based command-and-control (C2) channel that enters into a polling loop, allowing the operator to issue instructions over an interactive shell and return the...
Microsoft Details Windows Clipper Malware Campaign Using USB LNK Worm and Tor-Based C2

Microsoft Details Windows Clipper Malware Campaign Using USB LNK Worm and Tor-Based C2

Jun 18, 2026 Malware / Cryptocurrency
Microsoft has disclosed details of a Windows-based cryptocurrency clipper campaign codenamed CryptoBandits that has targeted users since February 2026 with clipboard-intercepting malware with self-spreading capabilities and using the Tor anonymity network to hide communication. "The clipper in this campaign relies on Windows Script Host and ActiveX-driven logic to launch a bundled Tor proxy and poll a hidden-service C2 [command-and-control] server," the Microsoft Defender Security Research Team said in an analysis published Tuesday. "It carries out high-frequency clipboard theft, screenshot exfiltration, and wallet-address substitution." "The execution of this clipper is notable because it does not depend on a traditional installer or exposed IP-based C2 infrastructure. Instead, it deploys a portable Tor client, routes traffic through a local SOCKS5 proxy, and blends data theft with remote code execution, turning a financially motivated stealer into a li...
DragonForce Hackers Abuse Microsoft Teams Relays to Hide Backdoor.Turn C2 Traffic

DragonForce Hackers Abuse Microsoft Teams Relays to Hide Backdoor.Turn C2 Traffic

Jun 18, 2026 Remote Access Trojan / Ransomware
Threat actors associated with the DragonForce ransomware have been observed using a custom Go-based remote access trojan (RAT) called Backdoor.Turn to conceal command-and-control (C2) traffic inside Microsoft Teams relay infrastructure. According to findings from Broadcom-owned Symantec and Carbon Black, the backdoor was deployed against a major U.S. services firm. The name of the company was not disclosed. "Backdoor.Turn obtains an anonymous Teams visitor token from Microsoft’s Skype-backed identity services, uses a legitimate Microsoft TURN relay to set up the connection, and then runs a QUIC session to the attacker’s real command-and-control (C2) server," the Threat Hunter Team said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "To network defenders, the only traffic they could see was outbound connections to legitimate Microsoft Teams servers. The attackers were on the victim network for between one and two months."
Junior Hacker Used Tailscale and OpenSSH to Keep Access After His C2 Went Offline

Junior Hacker Used Tailscale and OpenSSH to Keep Access After His C2 Went Offline

Jun 17, 2026 Malware / Cyber Attack
A French-speaking attacker broke into a small French automotive business, planted a keylogger, and stole banking and email credentials. Ordinary stuff, until one move near the end. Before his command-and-control server went dark, he installed OpenSSH and Tailscale on a victim's machine, building a way back in that did not run through the C2 at all. When the Havoc server went offline the next day, his access did not. Eighteen days later, the C2 came back, his agents reconnected on their own, and he carried on. Cato Networks captured the whole operation command by command, 339 of them over 33 days, after the operator left his SSH keys and a step-by-step playbook in an open storage bucket. The write-up, published Tuesday by Cato CTRL researcher Vitaly Simonovich, is a rare view of an intrusion from the operator's keyboard rather than the forensic leftovers. Researchers' lesson is blunt: pulling a C2 server offline is not remediation if the attacker has already built a...

UAC-0247 Targets Ukrainian Clinics and Government in Data-Theft Malware Campaign

UAC-0247 Targets Ukrainian Clinics and Government in Data-Theft Malware Campaign

Apr 16, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
The Computer Emergencies Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA) has disclosed details of a new campaign that has targeted governments and municipal healthcare institutions, mainly clinics and emergency hospitals, to deliver malware capable of stealing sensitive data from Chromium-based web browsers and WhatsApp. The activity, which was observed between March and April 2026, has been attributed to a threat cluster dubbed UAC-0247 . The origins of the campaign are presently unknown. According to CERT-UA, the starting point of the attack chain is an email message claiming to be a humanitarian aid proposal, urging recipients to click on a link that redirects to either a legitimate website compromised via a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability or a bogus site created with help from artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Regardless of what the site is, the goal is to download and run a Windows Shortcut (LNK) file, which then execut...

108 Malicious Chrome Extensions Steal Google and Telegram Data, Affecting 20,000 Users

Apr 14, 2026 Data Theft / Browser Security
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a new campaign in which a cluster of 108 Google Chrome extensions has been found to communicate with the same command-and-control (C2) infrastructure with the goal of collecting user data and enabling browser-level abuse by injecting ads and arbitrary JavaScript code into every web page visited. According to Socket, the extensions (complete list here ) are published under five distinct publisher identities – Yana Project, GameGen, SideGames, Rodeo Games, and InterAlt – and have collectively amassed about 20,000 installs in the Chrome Web Store. "All 108 route stolen credentials, user identities, and browsing data to servers controlled by the same operator," security researcher Kush Pandya said in an analysis.  Of these, 54 add-ons steal Google account identity via OAuth2, 45 extensions contain a universal backdoor that opens arbitrary URLs as soon as the browser is started, and the remaining ones engage in a variet...

Casbaneiro Phishing Targets Latin America and Europe Using Dynamic PDF Lures

Apr 01, 2026 Malware / Windows Security
A multi-pronged phishing campaign is targeting Spanish-speaking users in organizations across Latin America and Europe to deliver Windows banking trojans like Casbaneiro (aka Metamorfo) via another malware called Horabot . The activity has been attributed to a Brazilian cybercrime threat actor tracked as Augmented Marauder and Water Saci . The e-crime group was first documented by Trend Micro in October 2025. "This threat group employs a wider-ranging attack model focused on a bespoke delivery and propagation mechanism that includes WhatsApp, ClickFix techniques, and email-centric phishing," BlueVoyant security researchers Thomas Elkins and Joshua Green said in a technical breakdown published Tuesday. "It is now evident that while these Brazil-based operators heavily leverage script-based WhatsApp automation to compromise retail and consumer users in Latin America, they concurrently maintain and deploy an advanced, email-hijacking engine to penetrate enterprise ...
