New 7-Zip Vulnerability Could Let Crafted XZ Archives Run Code During Extraction

New 7-Zip Vulnerability Could Let Crafted XZ Archives Run Code During Extraction

Jul 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Endpoint Security
Opening a crafted XZ archive in 7-Zip could let an attacker run code on the machine. The flaw, CVE-2026-14266 , is a heap-based buffer overflow in how the archiver processes XZ chunked data, and Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) detailed it on July 15. A fix shipped on June 25 in 7-Zip 26.02 . The overflow lets an attacker "execute code in the context of the current process," per the advisory. The code runs with the token 7-Zip itself holds and gains no privileges of its own. On Windows, a normally launched 7-Zip runs under a filtered standard-user token even on an administrator account, so the attacker inherits those limited rights unless the program was started elevated. The bug came in from Landon Peng of Lunbun LLC, who reported it to 7-Zip on June 5. ZDI rates the flaw 7.0, or High, not the Critical several write-ups reached for. The full CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H . The AV:L makes it a local attack vector, not a network-re...
World's Largest AI Model Repository Hugging Face Breached by Autonomous AI Agent

World's Largest AI Model Repository Hugging Face Breached by Autonomous AI Agent

Jul 20, 2026 AI Security / Vulnerability
In an ironic twist, open-source artificial intelligence (AI) platform Hugging Face revealed that it was the victim of a hack perpetrated by an autonomous AI agent system. The company said it detected and responded to the incident targeting its production infrastructure earlier last week. "We identified unauthorized access to a limited set of internal datasets and to several credentials used by our services," the company said in a statement. While an investigation into the intrusion remains ongoing, Hugging Face said it has found no evidence that the AI agent tampered with public, user-facing models, datasets, or Spaces, and its own software supply chain. The starting point of the attack was the data processing pipeline itself, with a malicious dataset abusing two code execution paths, viz., in its remote code dataset loader and a template injection in a dataset configuration, to run code on a processing worker.
Cursor Flaw Lets Malicious Cloned Repositories Trigger Windows Code Execution

Cursor Flaw Lets Malicious Cloned Repositories Trigger Windows Code Execution

Jul 15, 2026 Endpoint Security / Vulnerability
Open a repository in Cursor on Windows and, if a file named git.exe is sitting in the project root, Cursor runs it. No click, no approval dialog, no warning that anything in the folder is about to execute. Whatever that binary does, it does as you, with your source, your SSH keys and your cloud tokens. Cursor keeps re-running it for as long as the project stays open. No prompt injection, no agent, no model in the loop, and no prior access to the machine: opening the folder is the entire exploit, and the result is arbitrary code execution as the logged-in user. AI security firm Mindgard reported the flaw to Cursor on December 15, 2025 and  published full technical details  on Tuesday, seven months later. There is still no patch, and Cursor has published no advisory for the issue. The mechanism takes about a sentence. Cursor checks several locations for a Git binary when a project loads, and one of them is the workspace itself. Process Monitor output in t...

Critical Zimbra Flaw Could Let Crafted Emails Run Malicious Code in User Sessions

Critical Zimbra Flaw Could Let Crafted Emails Run Malicious Code in User Sessions

Jul 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Email Security
Zimbra is urging customers to apply updates to address a critical security vulnerability impacting the Classic Web Client that could result in arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability has been described as a case of stored cross-site scripting (XSS) that could allow specially crafted emails to execute malicious scripts in a user's session. It has yet to be assigned a CVE identifier. "The update fixes a security issue in the Classic Web Client where a specially crafted email could run malicious code when the email is opened," Zimbra said . "If exploited, it could allow access to mailbox information, session data, or account settings." XSS vulnerabilities occur when an application includes untrusted data in a web page without proper validation or escaping. This allows attackers to inject and execute malicious JavaScript in victims' browsers, which can result in session hijacking, credential theft, and account compromise. Stored XSS, or persistent ...
Six New U-Boot Flaws Could Let Malicious Images Crash Devices or Run Code at Boot

Six New U-Boot Flaws Could Let Malicious Images Crash Devices or Run Code at Boot

Jul 10, 2026 Firmware Security / Vulnerability
Researchers at firmware security firm Binarly have found six new flaws in U-Boot, the small program that starts up hardware as varied as home routers, smart cameras, and the management chips inside data-center servers. Four of the bugs can crash a device. The other two could let an attacker who slips a malicious image in front of the bootloader run their own code, before the device has confirmed that the software is genuine. That last part is the point. A bootloader runs before the operating system, so a flaw here can undermine everything that loads after it. All six bugs are reached while U-Boot is still reading an untrusted image, before it has checked the signature. What Binarly found U-Boot can bundle a kernel, device tree, ramdisk, and other boot components into one package, a FIT (Flattened Image Tree), and it checks that package's digital signature before handing over control. Binarly went looking for weak spots in that check and found six. Most of the vulner...

Unpatched Argo CD Repo-Server Flaw Could Let Attackers Take Over Kubernetes Clusters

Unpatched Argo CD Repo-Server Flaw Could Let Attackers Take Over Kubernetes Clusters

Jul 01, 2026 Kubernetes / Server Security
Argo CD , a widely used tool for deploying software to Kubernetes, has an unpatched flaw in its repo-server component that lets an unauthenticated attacker run code, provided they can reach the component's internal network port. Synacktiv , which found the bug, says it can lead to a full cluster takeover. There is no fix and no CVE. The firm says it reported the flaw to Argo CD's maintainers in January 2025; roughly eighteen months later, it remains unpatched, so it published the details to warn users. The bug sits in repo-server, the Argo CD component that reads Git repositories and builds Kubernetes manifests, the files that define what the cluster deploys. Its internal gRPC service has no authentication; anyone who can reach it can send a crafted request to run a command. Synacktiv demonstrated the attack against Argo CD v2.13.3 and reports no patched release; it did not publish a full list of affected versions. The technique abuses kustomize , a standard tool Argo ...

Cisco Unified CM Flaw Exploited After PoC Reveals File-Write Path to Root

Jun 24, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a recently disclosed critical security flaw impacting Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM) and Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition (Unified CM SME). The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-20230 (CVSS score: 8.6), is a case of improper input validation for specific HTTP requests that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct server-side request forgery (SSRF) attacks through an affected device. "An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to an affected device," Cisco said in an advisory released earlier this month. "A successful exploit could allow the attacker to write files to the underlying operating system that could be used later to elevate to root." In a post shared on X earlier this week, Defused Cyber said it observed active exploitation of the vulnerability in attacks. "This is currently being exploited from a single sourc...
Agentjacking Attack Tricks AI Coding Agents Into Running Malicious Code

Agentjacking Attack Tricks AI Coding Agents Into Running Malicious Code

Jun 12, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have described what they say is a new class of attack that can trick artificial intelligence (AI) coding agents into running arbitrary code on developer machines. Called Agentjacking by Tenet Security, the attack can be triggered by means of a fake error report crafted using Sentry, an open-source error-tracking and performance-monitoring platform. "The attack exploits a critical architectural flaw at the intersection of Sentry's event ingestion (which accepts arbitrary payloads from anyone with the DSN) and the Sentry MCP server (which returns this data to AI agents as trusted system output)," security researchers Ron Bobrov, Barak Sternberg, and Nevo Poran said . The idea is to inject crafted input into Sentry error events, which are then interpreted by coding agents like Claude Code and Cursor as legitimate diagnostic resolution steps and run attacker-controlled code. A successful attack of this kind can expose sensitive data, includ...
GitHub to Disable npm Install Scripts by Default to Stop Supply Chain Attacks

GitHub to Disable npm Install Scripts by Default to Stop Supply Chain Attacks

Jun 11, 2026 Developer Security / Software Supply Chain
GitHub has announced what it said are "breaking changes" coming to npm version 12, one of which turns off install scripts by default to combat software supply chain threats. The changes aim to combat attack techniques that abuse the "npm install" command to trigger the execution of malicious code using npm lifecycle hooks. "Npm install" is used to download and install all the necessary dependencies for a Node.js project. Version 12 is scheduled for release next month. Describing install-time lifecycle scripts as the "single largest code-execution surface in the npm ecosystem," GitHub said the "npm install" command runs scripts from every transitive dependency, as a result of which a single compromised package anywhere in the dependency tree can run arbitrary code on a developer machine or CI runner. By blocking such behaviours, the idea is to require explicit user approval before code execution is initiated automatically durin...

Google Patches Antigravity IDE Flaw Enabling Prompt Injection Code Execution

Google Patches Antigravity IDE Flaw Enabling Prompt Injection Code Execution

Apr 21, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a vulnerability in Google's agentic integrated development environment (IDE), Antigravity, that could be exploited to achieve code execution. The flaw, since patched, combines Antigravity's permitted file-creation capabilities with an insufficient input sanitization in Antigravity's native file-searching tool, find_by_name, to bypass the program's Strict Mode , a restrictive security configuration that limits network access, prevents out-of-workspace writes, and ensures all commands are being run within a sandbox context . "By injecting the -X (exec-batch) flag through the Pattern parameter [in the find_by_name tool], an attacker can force fd to execute arbitrary binaries against workspace files," Pillar Security researcher Dan Lisichkin said in an analysis. "Combined with Antigravity's ability to create files as a permitted action, this enables a full attack chain: stage a malicious script, then trigger ...

CISA Warns of Active Exploitation of Gogs Vulnerability Enabling Code Execution

Jan 13, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has warned of active exploitation of a high-severity security flaw impacting Gogs by adding it to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-8110 (CVSS score: 8.7), relates to a case of path traversal in the repository file editor that could result in code execution. "Gogs Path Traversal Vulnerability: Gogs contains a path traversal vulnerability affecting improper Symbolic link handling in the PutContents API that could allow for code execution," CISA said in an advisory. Details of the shortcoming came to light last month when Wiz said it discovered it being exploited in zero-day attacks. The vulnerability essentially bypasses protections put in place for CVE-2024-55947 to achieve code execution by creating a git repository, committing a symbolic link pointing to a sensitive target, and using the PutContents API to write data to the symlink. This, in t...

The company, however, noted that the FortiCloud SSO login feature is not enabled in the default factory settings. FortiCloud SSO login is enabled when an administrator registers the device to FortiCare and has not disabled the toggle ...
Picklescan Bugs Allow Malicious PyTorch Models to Evade Scans and Execute Code

Picklescan Bugs Allow Malicious PyTorch Models to Evade Scans and Execute Code

Dec 03, 2025 Machine Learning / Vulnerability
Three critical security flaws have been disclosed in an open-source utility called Picklescan that could allow malicious actors to execute arbitrary code by loading untrusted PyTorch models, effectively bypassing the tool's protections. Picklescan , developed and maintained by Matthieu Maitre (@mmaitre314), is a security scanner that's designed to parse Python pickle files and detect suspicious imports or function calls, before they are executed. Pickle is a widely used serialization format in machine learning, including PyTorch , which uses the format to save and load models. But pickle files can also be a huge security risk , as they can be used to automatically trigger the execution of arbitrary Python code when they are loaded. This necessitates that users and organizations load trusted models, or load model weights from TensorFlow and Flax. The issues discovered by JFrog essentially make it possible to bypass the scanner, present the scanned model files as safe, and e...
