CISA Warns of Active Exploitation of Linux Kernel Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Tuesday placed a security flaw impacting the Linux kernel in its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, stating it has been actively exploited in the wild. The vulnerability, CVE-2023-0386 (CVSS score: 7.8), is an improper ownership bug in the Linux kernel that could be exploited to escalate privileges on susceptible systems. It was patched in early 2023. "Linux kernel contains an improper ownership management vulnerability, where unauthorized access to the execution of the setuid file with capabilities was found in the Linux kernel's OverlayFS subsystem in how a user copies a capable file from a nosuid mount into another mount," the agency said. "This uid mapping bug allows a local user to escalate their privileges on the system." It's currently not known how the security flaw is being exploited in the wild. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Monday added a high-severity security flaw in TP-Link wireless routers to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, citing evidence of active exploitation.  The vulnerability in question is CVE-2023-33538 (CVSS score: 8.8), a command injection bug that could result in the execution of arbitrary system commands when processing the ssid1 parameter in a specially crafted HTTP GET request. "TP-Link TL-WR940N V2/V4, TL-WR841N V8/V10, and TL-WR740N V1/V2 contain a command injection vulnerability via the component /userRpm/WlanNetworkRpm," the agency said. CISA has also warned that there is a possibility that affected products could be end-of-life (EoL) and/or end-of-service (EoS), urging users to discontinue their use if no mitigations are available. Two security vulnerabilities have been disclosed in SinoTrack GPS devices that could be exploited to control certain remote functions on connected vehicles and even track their locations. "Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to access device profiles without authorization through the common web management interface," the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in an advisory. "Access to the device profile may allow an attacker to perform some remote functions on connected vehicles such as tracking the vehicle location and disconnecting power to the fuel pump where supported." A recently disclosed critical security flaw impacting the open-source Langflow platform has been added to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), citing evidence of active exploitation. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-3248 , carries a CVSS score of 9.8 out of a maximum of 10.0. "Langflow contains a missing authentication vulnerability in the /api/v1/validate/code endpoint that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code via crafted HTTP requests," CISA said. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2025-34028 (CVSS score: 10.0), a path traversal bug that affects 11.38 Innovation Release, from versions 11.38.0 through 11.38.19. It has been addressed in versions 11.38.20 and 11.38.25. "Commvault Command Center contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code," CISA said . Fortinet has revealed that threat actors have found a way to maintain read-only access to vulnerable FortiGate devices even after the initial access vector used to breach the devices was patched. The attackers are believed to have leveraged known and now-patched security flaws, including, but not limited to, CVE-2022-42475 , CVE-2023-27997 , and CVE-2024-21762 . "A threat actor used a known vulnerability to implement read-only access to vulnerable FortiGate devices," the network security company said in an advisory released Thursday. "This was achieved via creating a symbolic link connecting the user file system and the root file system in a folder used to serve language files for the SSL-VPN." Microsoft on Tuesday released security updates to address 57 security vulnerabilities in its software, including a whopping six zero-days that it said have been actively exploited in the wild. Of the 56 flaws, six are rated Critical, 50 are rated Important, and one is rated Low in severity. Twenty-three of the addressed vulnerabilities are remote code execution bugs and 22 relate to privilege escalation.
