Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Aug 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Security researchers found a way to enter Microsoft SharePoint servers as any user, including an administrator, with no valid account. A significant part of the work that found it was done through an AI agent. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2026-55040  (CVSS 9.1), affects SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server 2019, and SharePoint Server 2016. Microsoft's affected-product list covers only those three on-premises editions, and SharePoint Online is not among them. It lets a remote unauthenticated attacker assume a chosen user's identity. The attack has one prerequisite: the intruder has to know which account they want to become, either by its Active Directory security identifier (SID) or its user principal name (UPN), which is formatted like an email address. Rapid7 then chained the bypass to a separate remote code execution flaw and ran code on the server with no credentials. Microsoft and the firm disclosed that second flaw on August 11 as  CVE-2026...
N-able Issues N-central Hotfix 2 as Attackers Reach Managed Systems and Persist

N-able Issues N-central Hotfix 2 as Attackers Reach Managed Systems and Persist

Aug 08, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
N-able has released a fresh round of hotfixes for N‑central as part of its investigation into ongoing exploitation of a recently disclosed security flaw in the Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) product. "We are proactively expanding protections in response to ongoing monitoring of threat actors as they evolve their attack techniques," the company said. "This is not a duplicate of our previous communication. Hotfix 2 is required, even if you already applied the earlier hotfix. Hotfix 2 supersedes Hotfix 1 with additional hardening measures to further protect you and your customers." The disclosure comes as N-able acknowledged that it detected unusual activity within a customer's environment on July 31, 2026, leading to the discovery of unknown threat actors exploiting a then-zero-day flaw in the N‑central server (CVE-2026-18577, CVSS score: 8.2). It impacts all versions prior to 2026.3.1.7. It's worth noting that CVE-2026-18577 relates to an i...
Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Malware Can Abuse Windows Hello for Business Keys for Persistent Entra ID Access

Aug 07, 2026 Endpoint Security / Vulnerability
Entra ID researcher Dirk-jan Mollema demonstrated that malware already running in a signed-in Windows session can silently use the victim's Windows Hello for Business key to authenticate to Microsoft Entra ID. The attacker can then establish longer-term cloud access, register a device it controls, obtain a Primary Refresh Token (PRT), and add further authentication methods where tenant policies permit. On TPM-backed systems, the attacker does not extract the private key, recover the PIN, or trigger a biometric prompt. Windows ticketing keeps private-key operations available while the user is interactively signed in, allowing code running as the user to ask Windows to sign authentication data. Administrator privileges are not required. The technique requires code execution in the victim's signed-in session. Mollema describes the behavior as a consequence of how Windows Hello for Business works and says it was left as-is. The disclosure does not report active exploitatio...

Paperclip AI Flaws Let Attackers Run Host Commands via Malicious Agent Imports

Paperclip AI Flaws Let Attackers Run Host Commands via Malicious Agent Imports

Aug 05, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Two security flaws in Paperclip could let attackers execute commands on a network server or a developer's computer. Paperclip is an open-source control plane for teams of artificial intelligence (AI) agents, and both paths rely on importing a malicious agent and starting it. A third flaw could expose sensitive data and control-plane details through application programming interface (API) routes that did not enforce the expected access checks. The more severe server-side path, tracked as CVE-2026-41679 (CVSS score: 10.0), requires no pre-existing account or victim interaction against network-accessible deployments using authenticated mode with the default registration configuration. The second path, tracked as GHSA-x8hx-rhr2-9rf7 (CVSS score: 9.6), requires a user to open an attacker-controlled page while Paperclip is running in its default local_trusted mode. The source tagged as Paperclip v2026.416.0 contains the import-authorization fix and hostname-validation guard di...
Google Adds Selfie Video Recovery for Users Locked Out of Their Accounts

Google Adds Selfie Video Recovery for Users Locked Out of Their Accounts

Jul 23, 2026 Authentication / Data Protection
Google on Thursday announced a new way for users to sign-in to their accounts by letting them take a selfie video. The selfie for sign-in , per the tech giant, is another option on top of existing recovery methods to log in to an account, including an email address or a phone number. The idea is to use a video selfie as a way to regain access if a user ever gets locked out or doesn't have access to their usual phone or computer. As part of the process, users are required to set up a selfie video by just looking into the device's camera and completing a "few short, guided head movements" to capture their face from different angles. Should users have any trouble signing in to their accounts with the selfie method at a later stage, they can just take another selfie to sign back in. "Selfie video compares the new video to the one you set up to confirm it is really you and help you get back into your account," Google said in a blog post shared with The Ha...
n8n Token Exchange Flaw Could Let Attackers Log In as Users From Another Issuer

n8n Token Exchange Flaw Could Let Attackers Log In as Users From Another Issuer

Jul 16, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
n8n , the workflow automation platform, handed out the wrong accounts at login. On Enterprise instances configured to trust more than one external token issuer, it matched an incoming JWT to a local user on the  sub  claim alone and ignored  iss . A valid token from issuer A carrying a  sub  that belongs to someone under issuer B logged you in as them. Their password never came into it. n8n shipped the fix on June 24. The flaw is tracked as  CVE-2026-59208 . The CVE record did not go public until July 9. n8n  credits the report  to the GitHub account bearsyankees , whose profile lists Strix, which makes an AI penetration testing agent. Strix  says  it pointed out that the agent at the token-exchange flow and found the identity-binding bug there. Two issuers, one account Token exchange is n8n's Enterprise route for  OEM partners who embed the product , an  RFC 8693 implementation  that spares their users a second...
Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Jul 14, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Microsoft shipped its largest Patch Tuesday on record today, and two of the fixes close holes that attackers are already exploiting. The release covers 622 of Microsoft's own CVEs by its  Security Update Guide  count, more than triple  June's previous high of around 200 . Those two live bugs are the ones to grab first. Microsoft credits incident responders for both. Both are elevation-of-privilege flaws in identity and collaboration infrastructure: CVE-2026-56164 in on-premises SharePoint Server and CVE-2026-56155 in Active Directory Federation Services. Neither is one of the splashy remote code execution criticals. They are privilege bugs in two systems that matter more than their scores suggest: the company document store, and the box that signs its logins. The two zero-days to patch first CVE-2026-56164 , a SharePoint Server flaw Microsoft says is being exploited in attacks, lets an unauthenticated attacker escalate privileges over the ne...
OAuth Client ID Spoofing Lets Attackers Validate Stolen Microsoft Entra Credentials

OAuth Client ID Spoofing Lets Attackers Validate Stolen Microsoft Entra Credentials

Jul 14, 2026 Cloud Security / Identity Security
At least two distinct threat actors are weaponizing a novel evasion technique called OAuth client ID spoofing in cloud campaigns, while slipping past telemetry. The activity allows users to enumerate user accounts and validate stolen credentials in Microsoft Entra ID environments, without ever generating a successful sign-in event that would otherwise alert defenders. And bad actors have begun to exploit this gap to obtain unauthorized access to an organization's cloud services. "A blind spot in cloud sign-in telemetry: Entra ID returns different error responses depending on whether a supplied OAuth client ID is valid," Proofpoint said in a statement. "Attackers exploit this to infer valid usernames and correct passwords at scale, effectively checking stolen credential lists without logging a successful login." In other words, the attacks leverage the OAuth client ID, a globally unique identifier (GUID) assigned to applications when requesting access to ...
Hackers Use Fake Microsoft Entra Passkey Enrollment to Gain Microsoft 365 Access

Hackers Use Fake Microsoft Entra Passkey Enrollment to Gain Microsoft 365 Access

Jul 10, 2026 Enterprise Security / Authentication
A threat actor has been targeting organizations spanning multiple sectors with voice-based fake security requests that prompt Microsoft 365 users to enroll a new Entra passkey with an aim to carry out data extortion attacks. The threat actor, tracked by Okta under the moniker O-UNC-066 , has deployed a panel-controlled phishing kit that's capable of targeting the passkey enrollment process . The activity has singled out food and beverage, technology, healthcare, automotive, construction, and aviation industries. "The threat actor registers domains that incorporate the word passkey as part of a voice-enabled phishing ('vishing') scheme," Okta researcher Houssem Eddine Bordjiba said . "The threat actor then calls targeted users on the phone in an attempt to persuade them that they need to register a new passkey." Users are then directed to a phishing kit that's identical to the Microsoft passkey enrollment process, giving the impression that th...
npm 12 Disables Install Scripts by Default to Reduce Supply Chain Risk

npm 12 Disables Install Scripts by Default to Reduce Supply Chain Risk

Jul 09, 2026 Supply Chain Security / DevSecOps
GitHub has officially announced the release of npm version 12 with install scripts disabled by default, along with deprecating granular access tokens (GATs) designed to bypass two-factor authentication (2FA). The Microsoft-owned subsidiary noted that the following npm install behaviors that used to run automatically before have been made opt-in - allowScripts defaults to off, meaning dependency lifecycle scripts (i.e., preinstall, install, postinstall) and implicit node-gyp builds no longer run unless explicitly allowed. --allow-git defaults to none, meaning --allow-git defaults to none: Git dependencies (direct or transitive) are no longer resolved unless explicitly allowed. --allow-remote defaults to none, meaning dependencies from remote URLs (e.g., https tarballs) are no longer resolved unless explicitly allowed. To review and approve trusted scripts, users are now required to run: "npm approve-scripts --allow-scripts-pending," then commit the resulting a...
The Verification Step Is the New ATO Battleground in 2026

The Verification Step Is the New ATO Battleground in 2026

Jul 08, 2026 Identity Security / Compliance
For years, account takeover (ATO) followed a predictable script. Attackers bought stolen credentials in bulk, ran them through automated tools, and waited for matches. Credential stuffing was cheap, scalable, and for defenders, relatively well understood. That era is ending. Not because attackers gave up, but because the front door finally got harder to kick in. Passkeys are now mainstream. According to the FIDO Alliance's 2026 research, 75% of global consumers have enabled a passkey on at least one account. At the same time, passkeys are becoming more common in the workplace, with 68% of companies now using, testing, or introducing them for employee sign-ins.  Phishing-resistant, passwordless authentication is no longer aspirational, it's becoming the default. When the password disappears, so does the value of a stolen password. So where does the attack go next? It moves downstream, to the moments where systems still trust a human to prove who they are. The attac...
Unpatched Windows Search URI Vulnerability Lets Attackers Steal NTLMv2 Hashes

Unpatched Windows Search URI Vulnerability Lets Attackers Steal NTLMv2 Hashes

Jun 03, 2026 Vulnerability / Network Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of an unpatched issue that could be exploited to disclose a user's NTLMv2 hash to the attacker. Like in the case of CVE-2026-33829 , which impacted the Windows Snipping Tool's ms-screensketch: URI handler, the newly flagged issue resides in the search: URI handler, per Huntress . CVE-2026-33829 refers to a spoofing vulnerability that could expose sensitive information to an unauthorized actor. It was patched by Microsoft in April 2026. "An attacker could induce the user into clicking a specially crafted link in a Web browser or other URL source, by embedding it in a Web page or email message," Microsoft noted in its advisory at the time. "If the user approves the launching of the link, the crafted URL can induce the computer to connect to an SMB server of the attacker's choosing, which would disclose the user's NTLMv2 hash to the attacker, who could use this to authenticate as the user." Spe...

Dashlane Discloses Brute-Force Attack, Encrypted Vaults of Fewer Than 20 Users Downloaded

Jun 02, 2026 Identity Security / Data Protection
Password manager Dashlane has disclosed that "fewer than" 20 users on the personal subscription plan had their encrypted vaults downloaded following a brute-force attack launched by an unknown party. On May 31, 2026, the company said an "external" threat actor launched a brute-force attack against certain Dashlane user accounts with the aim of breaking two-factor authentication (2FA) protections and allowing them to register new devices on existing user accounts. Exactly how many users were targeted remains unknown, but Dashlane said the high volume of attempts on those accounts triggered temporary account suspensions and authentication issues due to its built-in security controls. Although access to the accounts has since been restored, the company has now revealed that the attackers were successful in a handful of cases, enabling them to download a copy of the encrypted vaults belonging to less than 20 personal plan users. "We have directly notif...

New Linux PamDOORa Backdoor Uses PAM Modules to Steal SSH Credentials

May 08, 2026 Malware / Threat Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a new Linux backdoor named PamDOORa that's being advertised on the Rehub Russian cybercrime forum for $1,600 by a threat actor called "darkworm." The backdoor is designed as a Pluggable Authentication Module ( PAM )-based post-exploitation toolkit that enables persistent SSH access by means of a magic password and specific TCP port combination. It's also capable of harvesting credentials from all legitimate users who authenticate through the compromised system. "The tool, called PamDOORa, is a new PAM-based backdoor, designed to serve as a post-exploitation backdoor, enabling authentication to servers via OpenSSH," Flare.io researcher Assaf Morag said in a technical report. "Allegedly this would remain persistent on Linux systems (x86_64)." PamDOORa is the second Linux backdoor after Plague to be discovered targeting the PAM stack over the past year. PAM is a security framework in Unix/Linu...

Identity Prioritization isn't a Backlog Problem - It's a Risk Math Problem

Identity Prioritization isn't a Backlog Problem - It's a Risk Math Problem

Feb 24, 2026 Identity Security / Enterprise Security
Most identity programs still prioritize work the way they prioritize IT tickets: by volume, loudness, or “what failed a control check.” That approach breaks the moment your environment stops being mostly-human and mostly-onboarded. In modern enterprises, identity risk is created by a compound of factors: control posture, hygiene, business context, and intent. Any one of these can perhaps be manageable on its own. The real danger is the toxic combination, when multiple weaknesses align and attackers get a clean chain from entry to impact. A useful prioritization framework treats identity risk as contextual exposure, not configuration completeness. 1. Controls Posture: Compliance and Security As Risk Signals, Not Checkboxes Controls posture answers a simple question: If something goes wrong, will we prevent it, detect it, and prove it? In classic IAM programs, controls are assessed as “configured / not configured.” But prioritization needs more nuance: a missing control is a risk ...
npm’s Update to Harden Their Supply Chain, and Points to Consider

npm’s Update to Harden Their Supply Chain, and Points to Consider

Feb 13, 2026 Supply Chain Security / DevSecOps
In December 2025, in response to the Sha1-Hulud incident, npm completed a major authentication overhaul intended to reduce supply-chain attacks. While the overhaul is a solid step forward, the changes don’t make npm projects immune from supply-chain attacks. npm is still susceptible to malware attacks – here’s what you need to know for a safer Node community. Let’s start with the original problem Historically, npm relied on classic tokens: long-lived, broadly scoped credentials that could persist indefinitely. If stolen, attackers could directly publish malicious versions to the author’s packages (no publicly verifiable source code needed). This made npm a prime vector for supply-chain attacks. Over time, numerous real-world incidents demonstrated this point. Shai-Hulud, Sha1-Hulud, and chalk/debug are examples of recent, notable attacks. npm’s solution To address this, npm made the following changes: npm revoked all classic tokens and defaulted to session-based tokens instead...

Fortinet FortiGate Under Active Attack Through SAML SSO Authentication Bypass

Fortinet FortiGate Under Active Attack Through SAML SSO Authentication Bypass

Dec 16, 2025 Network Security / Vulnerability
Threat actors have begun to exploit two newly disclosed security flaws in Fortinet FortiGate devices, less than a week after public disclosure. Cybersecurity company Arctic Wolf said it observed active intrusions involving malicious single sign-on (SSO) logins on FortiGate appliances on December 12, 2025. The attacks exploit two critical authentication bypasses (CVE-2025-59718 and CVE-2025-59719, CVSS scores: 9.8). Patches for the flaws were released by Fortinet last week for FortiOS, FortiWeb, FortiProxy, and FortiSwitchManager. "These vulnerabilities allow unauthenticated bypass of SSO login authentication via crafted SAML messages, if the FortiCloud SSO feature is enabled on affected devices," Arctic Wolf Labs said in a new bulletin. It's worth noting that while FortiCloud SSO is disabled by default, it is automatically enabled during FortiCare registration unless administrators explicitly turn it off using the "Allow administrative login using FortiCloud SS...

Google to Shut Down Dark Web Monitoring Tool in February 2026

Dec 16, 2025 Dark Web / Online Safety
Google has announced that it's discontinuing its dark web report tool in February 2026, less than two years after it was launched as a way for users to monitor if their personal information is found on the dark web. To that end, scans for new dark web breaches will be stopped on January 15, 2026, and the feature will cease to exist effective February 16, 2026. "While the report offered general information, feedback showed that it didn't provide helpful next steps," Google said in a support document. "We're making this change to instead focus on tools that give you more clear, actionable steps to protect your information online." The tech giant said it will delete all data related to dark web report once the feature is retired in February, but noted that users have an option to delete their monitoring profile ahead of time by following the steps below - Go to the Dark Web report Under "Results with your info," click Edit monitoring prof...
