Cursor AI Code Editor Vulnerability Enables RCE via Malicious MCP File Swaps Post Approval

Cursor AI Code Editor Vulnerability Enables RCE via Malicious MCP File Swaps Post Approval

авг. 05, 2025 AI Security / MCP Protocol
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a high-severity security flaw in the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered code editor Cursor that could result in remote code execution. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-54136 (CVSS score: 7.2), has been codenamed MCPoison by Check Point Research, owing to the fact that it exploits a quirk in the way the software handles modifications to Model Context Protocol (MCP) server configurations. "A vulnerability in Cursor AI allows an attacker to achieve remote and persistent code execution by modifying an already trusted MCP configuration file inside a shared GitHub repository or editing the file locally on the target's machine," Cursor said in an advisory released last week. "Once a collaborator accepts a harmless MCP, the attacker can silently swap it for a malicious command (e.g., calc.exe) without triggering any warning or re-prompt." MCP is an open-standard developed by Anthropic that allows large language mode...

AI-Generated Malicious npm Package Drains Solana Funds from 1,500+ Before Takedown

авг. 01, 2025 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a malicious npm package that was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and concealed a cryptocurrency wallet drainer. The package, @kodane/patch-manager, claims to offer "advanced license validation and registry optimization utilities for high-performance Node.js applications." It was uploaded to npm by a user named "Kodane" on July 28, 2025. The package is no longer available for download from the registry, but not before it attracted over 1,500 downloads. Software supply chain security company Safety, which discovered the library, said the malicious features are advertised directly in the source code, calling it an "enhanced stealth wallet drainer." Specifically, the behavior is triggered as part of a postinstall script that drops its payload within hidden directories across Windows, Linux, and macOS systems, and then proceeds to connect to a command-and-control (C2) server at "sweeper-monitor-produ...

Critical mcp-remote Vulnerability Enables Remote Code Execution, Impacting 437,000+ Downloads

июл. 10, 2025 Vulnerability / AI Security
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a critical vulnerability in the open-source mcp-remote project that could result in the execution of arbitrary operating system (OS) commands. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-6514 , carries a CVSS score of 9.6 out of 10.0. "The vulnerability allows attackers to trigger arbitrary OS command execution on the machine running mcp-remote when it initiates a connection to an untrusted MCP server, posing a significant risk to users – a full system compromise," Or Peles, JFrog Vulnerability Research Team Leader, said . Mcp-remote is a tool that sprang forth following Anthropic's release of Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source framework that standardizes the way large language model (LLM) applications integrate and share data with external data sources and services. It acts as a local proxy, enabling MCP clients like Claude Desktop to communicate with remote MCP servers, as opposed to running them locally on the same...

Critical Vulnerability in Anthropic's MCP Exposes Developer Machines to Remote Exploits

Critical Vulnerability in Anthropic's MCP Exposes Developer Machines to Remote Exploits

июл. 01, 2025 Vulnerability / AI Security
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a critical security vulnerability in artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic's Model Context Protocol ( MCP ) Inspector project that could result in remote code execution (RCE) and allow an attacker to gain complete access to the hosts. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-49596 , carries a CVSS score of 9.4 out of a maximum of 10.0. "This is one of the first critical RCEs in Anthropic's MCP ecosystem, exposing a new class of browser-based attacks against AI developer tools," Oligo Security's Avi Lumelsky said in a report published last week. "With code execution on a developer's machine, attackers can steal data, install backdoors, and move laterally across networks - highlighting serious risks for AI teams, open-source projects, and enterprise adopters relying on MCP." MCP, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, is an open protocol that standardizes the way large language model (LLM) appli...
PyPI Attack: ChatGPT, Claude Impersonators Deliver JarkaStealer via Python Libraries

PyPI Attack: ChatGPT, Claude Impersonators Deliver JarkaStealer via Python Libraries

нояб. 22, 2024 Artificial Intelligence / Malware
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered two malicious packages uploaded to the Python Package Index (PyPI) repository that impersonated popular artificial intelligence (AI) models like OpenAI ChatGPT and Anthropic Claude to deliver an information stealer called JarkaStealer. The packages, named gptplus and claudeai-eng , were uploaded by a user named " Xeroline " in November 2023, attracting 1,748 and 1,826 downloads, respectively. Both libraries are no longer available for download from PyPI. "The malicious packages were uploaded to the repository by one author and, in fact, differed from each other only in name and description," Kaspersky said in a post. The packages purported to offer a way to access GPT-4 Turbo API and Claude AI API, but harbored malicious code that initiated the deployment of the malware upon installation. Specifically, the "__init__.py" file in these packages contained Base64-encoded data that incorporated code to download ...
