Nov 05, 2025 Artificial Intelligence / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a new set of vulnerabilities impacting OpenAI's ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that could be exploited by an attacker to steal personal information from users' memories and chat histories without their knowledge. The seven vulnerabilities and attack techniques, according to Tenable, were found in OpenAI's GPT-4o and GPT-5 models. OpenAI has since addressed some of them .  These issues expose the AI system to indirect prompt injection attacks , allowing an attacker to manipulate the expected behavior of a large language model (LLM) and trick it into performing unintended or malicious actions, security researchers Moshe Bernstein and Liv Matan said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The identified shortcomings are listed below - Indirect prompt injection vulnerability via trusted sites in Browsing Context, which involves asking ChatGPT to summarize the contents of web pages with malicious instructions added...

Researchers Reveal ConfusedFunction Vulnerability in Google Cloud Platform

Jul 25, 2024 Cloud Security / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a privilege escalation vulnerability impacting Google Cloud Platform's Cloud Functions service that an attacker could exploit to access other services and sensitive data in an unauthorized manner. Tenable has given the vulnerability the name ConfusedFunction. "An attacker could escalate their privileges to the Default Cloud Build Service Account and access numerous services such as Cloud Build, storage (including the source code of other functions), artifact registry and container registry," the exposure management company said in a statement. "This access allows for lateral movement and privilege escalation in a victim's project, to access unauthorized data and even update or delete it." Cloud Functions refers to a serverless execution environment that allows developers to create single-purpose functions that are triggered in response to specific Cloud events without the need to manage a server or update frame...
GCP Cloud Composer Bug Let Attackers Elevate Access via Malicious PyPI Packages

GCP Cloud Composer Bug Let Attackers Elevate Access via Malicious PyPI Packages

Apr 22, 2025 Vulnerability / Cloud Security
Cybersecurity researchers have detailed a now-patched vulnerability in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that could have enabled an attacker to elevate their privileges in the Cloud Composer workflow orchestration service that's based on Apache Airflow. "This vulnerability lets attackers with edit permissions in Cloud Composer to escalate their access to the default Cloud Build service account, which has high-level permissions across GCP services like Cloud Build itself, Cloud Storage, and Artifact Registry," Liv Matan, senior security researcher at Tenable, said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The shortcoming has been codenamed ConfusedComposer by the cybersecurity company, describing it as a variant of ConfusedFunction , a privilege escalation vulnerability impacting GCP's Cloud Functions service that an attacker could exploit to access other services and sensitive data in an unauthorized manner. The disclosure comes weeks after Tenable detailed another pr...

Google Fixed Cloud Run Vulnerability Allowing Unauthorized Image Access via IAM Misuse

Google Fixed Cloud Run Vulnerability Allowing Unauthorized Image Access via IAM Misuse

Apr 02, 2025 Cloud Security / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a now-patched privilege escalation vulnerability in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Cloud Run that could have allowed a malicious actor to access container images and even inject malicious code. "The vulnerability could have allowed such an identity to abuse its Google Cloud Run revision edit permissions in order to pull private Google Artifact Registry and Google Container Registry images in the same account," Tenable security researcher Liv Matan said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The security shortcoming has been codenamed ImageRunner by the cybersecurity company. Following responsible disclosure, Google addressed the problem as of January 28, 2025. Google Cloud Run is a fully managed service for executing containerized applications in a scalable, serverless environment. When the technology is used to run a service, container images are retrieved from the Artifact Registry (or Docker Hub) for subsequent depl...
Google Fixes GCP Composer Flaw That Could've Led to Remote Code Execution

Google Fixes GCP Composer Flaw That Could've Led to Remote Code Execution

Sep 16, 2024 Cloud Security / Vulnerability
A now-patched critical security flaw impacting Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Composer could have been exploited to achieve remote code execution on cloud servers by means of a supply chain attack technique called dependency confusion. The vulnerability has been codenamed CloudImposer by Tenable Research. "The vulnerability could have allowed an attacker to hijack an internal software dependency that Google pre-installs on each Google Cloud Composer pipeline-orchestration tool," security researcher Liv Matan said in a report shared with The Hacker News. Dependency confusion (aka substitution attack), which was first documented by security researcher Alex Birsan in February 2021, refers to a type of software supply chain compromise in which a package manager is tricked into pulling a malicious package from a public repository instead of the intended file of the same name from an internal repository. So, a threat actor could stage a large-scale supply chain attack by publ...
Researchers Discover 3 Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Azure API Management Service

Researchers Discover 3 Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Azure API Management Service

May 04, 2023 API Management / Vulnerability
Three new security flaws have been disclosed in Microsoft Azure API Management service that could be abused by malicious actors to gain access to sensitive information or backend services. This includes two server-side request forgery (SSRF) flaws and one instance of unrestricted file upload functionality in the API Management developer portal, according to Israeli cloud security firm Ermetic. "By abusing the SSRF vulnerabilities, attackers could send requests from the service's CORS Proxy and the hosting proxy itself, access internal Azure assets, deny service and bypass web application firewalls," security researcher Liv Matan said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "With the file upload path traversal, attackers could upload malicious files to Azure's hosted internal workload." Azure API Management is a  multicloud management platform  that allows organizations to securely expose their APIs to external and internal customers and enable a wide ...

Researchers Disclose Google Gemini AI Flaws Allowing Prompt Injection and Cloud Exploits

Sep 30, 2025 Artificial Intelligence / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed three now-patched security vulnerabilities impacting Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that, if successfully exploited, could have exposed users to major privacy risks and data theft. "They made Gemini vulnerable to search-injection attacks on its Search Personalization Model; log-to-prompt injection attacks against Gemini Cloud Assist; and exfiltration of the user's saved information and location data via the Gemini Browsing Tool," Tenable security researcher Liv Matan said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The vulnerabilities have been collectively codenamed the Gemini Trifecta by the cybersecurity company. They reside in three distinct components of the Gemini suite - A prompt injection flaw in Gemini Cloud Assist that could allow attackers to exploit cloud-based services and compromise cloud resources by taking advantage of the fact that the tool is capable of summarizing logs pulled dir...
