WebARX — A Defensive Core For Your Website

Sep 12, 2019
Estonian based web security startup WebARX, the company who is also behind open-source plugin vulnerability scanner WPBullet and soon-to-be-released bug bounty platform plugbounty.com , has a big vision for a safer web. It built a defensive core for websites which is embedded deep inside the company's DNA as even ARX in their name refers to the citadel (the core fortified area of a town or city) in Latin. WebARX—web application security platform—allows web developers and digital agencies to get advanced website security integrated with every site and makes it more effective and less time-consuming to manage security across multiple websites. You can find reviews such as "WebARX - the Swiss army knife that secures my websites!", "The security software that I use every day," "Many Promise - WebARX Delivers" from their Trustpilot page, so where is all that coming from? Serious Team With A Unique Focus WebARX is solving a very specific probl...
PayPal Vulnerability Allows Hackers to Steal All Your Money

PayPal Vulnerability Allows Hackers to Steal All Your Money

Aug 27, 2015
A critical security vulnerability has been discovered in the global e-commerce business PayPal that could allow attackers to steal your login credentials , and even your credit card details in unencrypted format. Egypt-based researcher Ebrahim Hegazy discovered a Stored Cross Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Paypal's Secure Payments domain. As it sounds, the domain is used to conduct secure online payments when purchasing from any online shopping website. It enables buyers to pay with their payment cards or PayPal accounts, eliminating the need to store sensitive payment information. However, it is possible for an attacker to set up a rogue online store or hijacked a legitimate shopping website, to trick users into handing over their personal and financial details. How the Stored XSS Attack Works? Hegazy explains a step by step process in his blog post , which gives a detailed explanation of the attack. Here's what the researcher calls the worst attack scenario:...

LoopHole in PayPal Terms Allows Anyone to Double PayPal Money Endlessly

Jun 12, 2014
Many of us own a PayPal account for easy online transactions, but most of us don’t have balance in our PayPal Account. But what will happen if your money doubles, triple...or even more folds in just some couple of hours ?? Sounds cherishing!! A loophole in the popular digital payment and money transfer service, PayPal allows its users to double the money in their account and that too endlessly. That means with only $50 in your PayPal account, you can make it to $100, then $100 to directly $200 and so on. An eBay owned company, PayPal provides a faster and safer way to pay and get paid. The service gives people simpler ways to send money without sharing financial information, with over 148 million active accounts in 26 currencies and across 193 markets, thereby processing more than 9 million payments daily. According to TinKode a.k.a Razvan Cernaianu , who claimed to have found this loophole in the PayPal service that actually resides in its Chargeback Process  wh...

Cosmos EVM Flaw Exploited After Cosmos Labs Knew Every Blockchain Running It Was Vulnerable

Cosmos EVM Flaw Exploited After Cosmos Labs Knew Every Blockchain Running It Was Vulnerable

Aug 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Blockchain
Cosmos Labs has warned that a critical balance-handling flaw in the shared Cosmos EVM module was exploited to drain funds from six blockchains between August 20 and August 25, 2026. The vulnerability, designated GHSA-7g4w-cg88-2cq2 , is rated Critical by Cosmos Labs and was published without a CVE identifier, a weakness classification, or a CVSS score. Affected versions are < 0.6.2 and >= 0.7.0 < 0.7.2 , and the fix shipped in v0.6.2 and v0.7.2 on August 19. Chain operators are told to upgrade to one of those releases or later, a change that is state-breaking and requires a coordinated network upgrade. Operators who cannot upgrade immediately are told to halt the chain rather than attempt a coordinated governance upgrade. In a post-mortem published August 28 , Cosmos Labs said the flaw was reported through its bug bounty program on April 25 and was assessed at the time as posing no risk to funds on live networks. "We were unable to reproduce the vulnerability ...

Hacker kills his own Pwn2Own bug for Android phones !

Mar 08, 2011
A vulnerability that a researcher planned to use to compromise an Android cellphone at a hacking contest later this week got squashed after Google fixed the underlying bug in the Android Market. Scio Security CTO Jon Oberheide notified Google of the XSS, or cross-site scripting, bug in the application bazaar because he didn't believe the vulnerability would qualify under terms of the Pwn2Own contest that is scheduled to start on Wednesday. The “incredibly low-hanging naive persistent XSS” allowed attackers to to remotely install malicious apps on Android handsets by tricking users into clicking a link on their phones or computer browsers while logged into a Google account. Oberheide later learned that the vulnerability didn't run afoul of contest rules, allowing him to collect $15,000 and a free handset if he was successful. But he recently discovered Google closed the security hole. The $1,337 awarded to Oberheide under Google's bug bounty program, is little consolati...

New Settings Let Hackers Easily Pentest Facebook, Instagram Mobile Apps

New Settings Let Hackers Easily Pentest Facebook, Instagram Mobile Apps

Mar 26, 2019
Facebook has introduced a new feature in its platform that has been designed to make it easier for bug bounty hunters to find security flaws in Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram Android applications. Since almost all Facebook-owned apps by default use security mechanisms such as Certificate Pinning to ensure integrity and confidentiality of the traffic, it makes it harder for white hat hackers and security researchers to intercept and analyze network traffic to find server-side security vulnerabilities. For those unaware, Certificate Pinning is a security mechanism designed to prevent users of an application from being a victim of network-based attacks by automatically rejecting the whole connection from sites that offer bogus SSL certificates. Dubbed " Whitehat Settings ," the new option now lets researchers easily bypass Certificate Pinning on the Facebook-owned mobile apps by: Disabling Facebook's TLS 1.3 support Enabling proxy for Platform API requests ...

Researchers Detail Techniques LockBit Ransomware Using to Infect its Targets

Jul 08, 2022
LockBit ransomware attacks are constantly evolving by making use of a wide range of techniques to infect targets while also taking steps to disable endpoint security solutions. "The affiliates that use LockBit's services conduct their attacks according to their preference and use different tools and techniques to achieve their goal," Cybereason security analysts Loïc Castel and Gal Romano  said . "As the attack progresses further along the kill chain, the activities from different cases tend to converge to similar activities." LockBit, which operates on a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) model like most groups, was first observed in September 2019 and has since emerged as the most dominant ransomware strain this year, surpassing other well-known groups like  Conti ,  Hive , and  BlackCat . This involves the malware authors licensing access to affiliates, who execute the attacks in exchange for using their tools and infrastructure and earn as much as 80% of ea...
The Prolificacy of LockBit Ransomware

The Prolificacy of LockBit Ransomware

Mar 14, 2023 Threat Detection / Cyber Security
Today, the LockBit ransomware is the most active and successful cybercrime organization in the world. Attributed to a Russian Threat Actor, LockBit has stepped out from the shadows of the Conti ransomware group, who were disbanded in early 2022. LockBit ransomware was first discovered in September 2019 and was previously known as ABCD ransomware because of the ".abcd virus" extension first observed. LockBit operates as a Ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) model. In short, this means that affiliates make a deposit to use the tool, then split the ransom payment with the LockBit group. It has been reported that some affiliates are receiving a share as high of 75%. LockBit's operators have posted advertisements for their affiliate program on Russian-language criminal forums stating they will not operate in Russia or any CIS countries, nor will they work with English-speaking developers unless a Russian-speaking "guarantor" vouches for them.  Initial attack vectors of...

Instasheep — Instagram Account Hacking Tool Released

Jul 30, 2014
Two days ago, we reported at The Hacker News about a critical issue in the most popular image and video sharing service, Instagram app for mobiles , that allows an attacker to hijack users’ account and successfully access private photos, delete victim's photos, edit comments and also post new images. Yesterday, a London developer Stevie Graham has released a tool called “ Instasheep ” a play on the 2010 Facebook stealer Firesheep , a Firefox extension that can be used to compromise online accounts in certain circumstances automatically using a click of mouse. Graham discovered the Instagram issue years ago and was shocked when he realized it hadn’t been fixed by Facebook yet. He released the tool after claiming Facebook refused to pay a bug bounty for his reported vulnerabilities affecting the Instagram iOS mobile application. Graham tweeted about the issue: “ Denied bug bounty. Next step is to write automated tool enabling mass hijacking of accounts, ” he wrote. “ ...

This Flaw Could Have Allowed Hackers to Hack Any Instagram Account Within 10 Minutes

Jul 15, 2019
Watch out! Facebook-owned photo-sharing service has recently patched a critical vulnerability that could have allowed hackers to compromise any Instagram account without requiring any interaction from the targeted users. Instagram is growing quickly—and with the most popular social media network in the world after Facebook, the photo-sharing network absolutely dominates when it comes to user engagement and interactions. Despite having advanced security mechanisms in place, bigger platforms like Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and Instagram are not completely immune to hackers and contain severe vulnerabilities. Some vulnerabilities have recently been patched , some are still under the process of being fixed, and many others most likely do exist, but haven't been found just yet. Details of one such critical vulnerability in Instagram surfaced today on the Internet that could have allowed a remote attacker to reset the password for any Instagram account and take complete contr...

URL Redirection flaw in Facebook apps push OAuth vulnerability again in action

Apr 04, 2013
In earlier posts, our Facebook hacker ' Nir Goldshlager ' exposed two serious Facebook oAuth Flaws. One, Hacking a Facebook account even without the user installing an application on their account and second, various ways to bypassing the regex protection in Facebook OAuth. This time, Nir illustrated a scenario attack  " what happens when a application is installed on the victim’s account and how an attacker can manipulate it so easily " According to hacker, if the victim has an installed application like Skype or Dropbox, still hacker is able to take control over their accounts.  For this, an attacker required only a url redirection or cross site scripting  vulnerability on the Facebook owner app domain i.e in this scenario we are talking about skype facebook app. In many bug bounty programs URL redirection is not considered as an valid vulnerability for reward i.e Google Bug bounty Program. Nir also demonstrated...

Uber fined $1.1 million by UK and Dutch regulators over 2016 data breach

Nov 27, 2018
British and Dutch data protection regulators Tuesday hit the ride-sharing company Uber with a total fine of $1,170,892 (~ 1.1 million) for failing to protect its customers’ personal information during a 2016 cyber attack involving millions of users. Late last year, Uber unveiled that the company had suffered a massive data breach in October 2016, exposing names, email addresses and phone numbers of 57 million Uber riders and drivers along with driving license numbers of around 600,000 drivers. Besides this, it was also reported that instead of disclosing the breach at the time, the company paid $100,000 in ransom to the two hackers with access to the stolen data in exchange for keeping the incident secret and deleting the information. Today Britain’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) fined Uber 385,000 pounds ($491,102), while the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Dutch DPA) levied a 600,000 euro ($679,790) penalty on Uber for failing to protect the personal informatio...
NodeBB Patches Eight AI-Found Flaws Exposing Admin Access and Private Chats

NodeBB Patches Eight AI-Found Flaws Exposing Admin Access and Private Chats

Jul 24, 2026 Web Security / Vulnerability
Eight security flaws in NodeBB went public on Wednesday, along with the code to exploit them. Aikido Security rates all eight as high severity and says its AI pentest agents found them in a six-hour review of the forum software's source code. Every version before 4.14.0 is affected. NodeBB has fixed them all, and administrators should be on 4.14.2. The simplest one takes a settings change. A regular forum member could point their homepage setting at the admin address, reload the page, and the admin dashboard opened for them. No password, no exploit code. The forum's own interface blocks that setting, but the block only ran in the browser and could be sidestepped. Most of what a member could then reach was read-only, including the error log and any user list an admin had exported, though they could also swap the site logo. Two more gave an attacker with no account at all access to things meant to be private. One let anyone claim to be any user and read private messages...

ServiceNow Flaw Exploited to Gain Unauthorized Access to Customer Instances

Jun 10, 2026 Cyber Attack / Vulnerability
ServiceNow has warned about a security incident in which unknown threat actors exploited a flaw to obtain deeper unauthorized access to susceptible instances. "On June 5, 2026, ServiceNow applied a security update to hosted customer instances," the company revealed in an advisory that requires customer access. "The update concerned a security issue that could allow an unauthenticated user, in certain circumstances, to gain greater access to ServiceNow instances than intended." The security update makes changes to an endpoint configuration to limit this access to authenticated users. The security flaw currently does not have a CVE identifier. Details of the issue first emerged on Reddit. ServiceNow said it detected anomalous activity relating to the security issue, and that it observed evidence of successful queries of instance tables against a "subset of customers." Impacted customers have been notified, it added. "The security issue pertai...

Yahoo! discourages Security Researchers with just $12.50 bug bounty for vulnerability reporting

Oct 02, 2013
Today more and more companies are looking for external security researchers to help identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses in their applications through Bug Bounty Programs. While companies like Facebook and Google are paying out hundreds of dollars to researchers for reporting security vulnerabilities, But according to Yahoo! Your email's security worth only $12.50 ! Yahoo is not having very good run in the reputation department when it comes to user security. Researchers at High-Tech Bridge found a few bugs, and were not exactly impressed with Yahoo’s reward. They pointed out cross-site scripting (XSS) flaws affecting two Yahoo domains and in return they received $12.50 bounties for each vulnerability they found. This amount was given as a discount code that can only be used in the Yahoo Company Store, which sells Yahoo’s corporate T-shirts, cups, pens and other accessories. This isn’t exactly a great reward for spending time reporting security ...
Unpatched Flaw in Xiaomi's Built-in Browser App Lets Hackers Spoof URLs

Unpatched Flaw in Xiaomi's Built-in Browser App Lets Hackers Spoof URLs

Apr 05, 2019
EXCLUSIVE — Beware, if you are using a Xiaomi's Mi or Redmi smartphone, you should immediately update its built-in MI browser or the Mint browser available on Google Play Store for non-Xiaomi Android devices. That's because both web browser apps created by Xiaomi are vulnerable to a critical vulnerability which has not yet been patched even after being privately reported to the company, a researcher told The Hacker News. The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2019-10875 and discovered by security researcher Arif Khan , is a browser address bar spoofing issue that originates because of a logical flaw in the browser's interface, allowing a malicious website to control URLs displayed in the address bar. According to the advisory, affected browsers are not properly handling the "q" query parameter in the URLs, thus fail to display the portion of an https URL before the ?q= substring in the address bar. Since the address bar of a web browser is the most r...
Telegram Desktop Flaw Lets Hidden JavaScript Exfiltrate Messages From HTML Exports

Telegram Desktop Flaw Lets Hidden JavaScript Exfiltrate Messages From HTML Exports

Sep 14, 2026 Vulnerability / Data Security
A flaw in Telegram Desktop let a bot's message plant hidden JavaScript inside chats that users exported to HTML files, security researchers at ExPatch said in a  writeup  published on September 12. In Telegram, the message looked ordinary, with a link button, and the script ran only when someone opened the export file in a web browser. It could then copy every message in that file to an attacker-controlled server, or rewrite what the page displayed. Telegram shipped  a fix  in July, but the app update does not update files exported with earlier versions, so old HTML exports can still carry the script. Telegram Desktop, Telegram's app for Windows, macOS, and Linux, can save a single chat or all chats from an account as HTML pages that open in a browser. Bots can attach rows of buttons under their messages, which Telegram calls inline keyboards, and the bot chooses the text shown on each button. Until the fix, the export code wrote that button text directly ...
Facebook Messenger Bug Lets Hackers Listen to You Before You Pick Up the Call

Facebook Messenger Bug Lets Hackers Listen to You Before You Pick Up the Call

Nov 20, 2020
Facebook has patched a bug in its widely installed Messenger app for Android that could have allowed a remote attacker to call unsuspecting targets and listen to them before even they picked up the audio call. The flaw was discovered and reported to Facebook by  Natalie Silvanovich  of Google's Project Zero bug-hunting team last month on October 6 with a 90-day deadline, and impacts version 284.0.0.16.119 (and before) of Facebook Messenger for Android. In a nutshell, the vulnerability could have granted an attacker who is logged into the app to simultaneously initiate a call and send a specially crafted message to a target who is signed in to both the app as well as another Messenger client such as the web browser. "It would then trigger a scenario where, while the device is ringing, the caller would begin receiving audio either until the person being called answers or the call times out," Facebook's Security Engineering Manager Dan Gurfinkel  said . According t...
