Identity Threat Detection and Response: Rips in Your Identity Fabric

Identity Threat Detection and Response: Rips in Your Identity Fabric

Aug 14, 2023 Threat Detection / SaaS Security
Why SaaS Security Is a Challenge In today's digital landscape, organizations are increasingly relying on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications to drive their operations. However, this widespread adoption has also opened the doors to new security risks and vulnerabilities. The SaaS security attack surface continues to widen. It started with managing misconfigurations and now requires a holistic approach to handling the entire SaaS ecosystem. This includes the continuous monitoring and management of user access, roles and permissions, 3rd party apps installed by users, risks deriving from SaaS user devices and Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR). There are a variety of reasons that SaaS security is so complex today. Firstly, there are a diverse range of applications, each having its own UI and terminology. And those environments are dynamic, from SaaS vendors understanding the importance of security and continually enhancing their applications with modern security...

Enforcement vs. Enrollment-based Security: How to Balance Security and Employee Trust

Enforcement vs. Enrollment-based Security: How to Balance Security and Employee Trust

Jan 03, 2023 Security Automation / Cybersecurity
Challenges with an enforcement-based approach An enforcement-based approach to security begins with a security policy backed by security controls, often heavy-handed and designed to prevent employees from engaging in risky behavior or inadvertently expanding the potential attack surface of an organization.  Most organizations exclusively use enforcement-based security controls, usually carried out at the network level with a Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) or a Security Services Edge (SSE). CASBs secure data between on-premises and cloud architectures, validate authorization rules, and access controls against the company’s security policy. Some organizations also use CASBs to block SaaS applications, but like SSEs, CASBs only support  some  applications. The applications these tools  don’t  support are often the riskiest because they don’t meet common industry and security standards, including SAML for authentication and SCIM for user management. At Cerb...

FCC takes initiative to Speed Up Mobile Security Updates

FCC takes initiative to Speed Up Mobile Security Updates

May 10, 2016
In Brief The Smartphone users are fed up with slow security updates, so two United States federal agencies have launched an official inquiry to know how manufacturers and carriers deal with mobile phone security updates and what they are doing to roll out patches as quickly as possible. The Smartphone patch update mechanism is broken, and someone has to fix it. Most smartphone models are not receiving available security patches, and the risk of vulnerabilities , malware infections , and data loss are leaving consumers vulnerable to attacks and putting businesses and corporate networks at risk. The United States federal regulators want to know how and when mobile phone manufacturers and cell phone carriers release security updates to assure its users' security, amid mounting concerns over security vulnerabilities. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in partnership with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have launched its own, parallel inquiry into mobile devic...

CISOs Tout SaaS Cybersecurity Confidence, But 79% Admit to SaaS Incidents, New Report Finds

Aug 22, 2023
A  new State of SaaS Security Posture Management Report  from SaaS cybersecurity provider  AppOmni  indicates that Cybersecurity, IT, and business leaders alike recognize SaaS cybersecurity as an increasingly important part of the cyber threat landscape. And at first glance, respondents appear generally optimistic about their SaaS cybersecurity. Over 600 IT, cybersecurity, and business leaders at companies between 500-2,500+ employees were surveyed and responded with confidence in their SaaS cybersecurity preparedness and capabilities. For example: When asked to rate the SaaS cybersecurity maturity level of their organizations, 71% noted that their organizations’ SaaS cybersecurity maturity has achieved either a mid-high level (43%) or the highest level (28%). For the security levels of the SaaS applications authorized for use in their organization, sentiment was similarly high. Seventy-three percent rated SaaS application security as mid-high (41%) or the highe...
How to Reduce SaaS Spend and Risk Without Impacting Productivity

How to Reduce SaaS Spend and Risk Without Impacting Productivity

Jul 24, 2024 SaaS Management / IT Governance
There is one simple driver behind the modern explosion in SaaS adoption: productivity. We have reached an era where purpose-built tools exist for almost every aspect of modern business and it’s incredibly easy (and tempting) for your workforce to adopt these tools without going through the formal IT approval and procurement process. But this trend has also increased the attack surface—and with it, the security and governance headaches that are still viewed as 100% the responsibility of IT and security teams. IT security leaders need scalable solutions for SaaS discovery and managing this ever-expanding attack surface. At the same time, their finance counterparts are seeking to cut technology spend (rather than salaries or headcount)—especially the low-hanging fruit of underutilized or over-deployed SaaS licenses, which Gartner estimates to be about  25% of all SaaS subscriptions . But, the key question is - where can you reduce your SaaS attack surface (and spend) without impa...
CTEM vs ASM vs Vulnerability Management: What Security Leaders Need to Know in 2025

CTEM vs ASM vs Vulnerability Management: What Security Leaders Need to Know in 2025

Jul 17, 2025 Enterprise Security / Threat Detection
The modern-day threat landscape requires enterprise security teams to think and act beyond traditional cybersecurity measures that are purely passive and reactive, and in most cases, ineffective against emerging threats and sophisticated threat actors. Prioritizing cybersecurity means implementing more proactive, adaptive, and actionable measures that can work together to effectively address the threats that most affect your business. Ideally, these measures should include the implementation of a Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) program, Vulnerability Management, and Attack Surface Management (ASM), which are all very different from one another, yet overlap. With CTEM , vulnerability management, and ASM, it’s not a question of which one is “better” or “more effective”, as they complement each other uniquely. By adopting all three, security teams get the continuous visibility and context they need to proactively boost defenses, giving them a le...

5 Ways to Reduce SaaS Security Risks

Oct 17, 2024 Attack Surface / SaaS Security
As technology adoption has shifted to be employee-led, just in time, and from any location or device, IT and security teams have found themselves contending with an ever-sprawling SaaS attack surface, much of which is often unknown or unmanaged. This greatly increases the risk of identity-based threats, and according to a recent report from CrowdStrike, 80% of breaches today use compromised identities, including cloud and SaaS credentials. Given this reality, IT security leaders need practical and effective  SaaS security solutions  designed to discover and manage their expanding SaaS footprint. Here are 5 key ways Nudge Security can help. Close the visibility gap Knowing the full scope of SaaS apps in use is the foundation of a modern IT governance program. Without an understanding of your entire SaaS footprint, you cannot say with confidence where your corporate IP is stored (Did someone sync their desktop to Dropbox?), you cannot make assumptions about your customer da...
