Unpatched Zero-Days in Microsoft Edge and IE Browsers Disclosed Publicly

Unpatched Zero-Days in Microsoft Edge and IE Browsers Disclosed Publicly

Mar 30, 2019
Exclusive — A security researcher today publicly disclosed details and proof-of-concept exploits for two 'unpatched' zero-day vulnerabilities in Microsoft's web browsers after the company allegedly failed to respond to his responsible private disclosure. Both unpatched vulnerabilities—one of which affects the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer and another affects the latest Edge Browser —allow a remote attacker to bypass same-origin policy on victim's web browser. Same Origin Policy (SOP) is a security feature implemented in modern browsers that restricts a web-page or a script loaded from one origin to interact with a resource from another origin, preventing unrelated sites from interfering with each other. In other words, if you visit a website on your web browser, it can only request data from the same origin [domain] the site was loaded from, preventing it from making any unauthorized request on your behalf in order to steal your data, from othe...

Microsoft will roll out fix for two critical flaws in Windows and Internet Explorer

Apr 06, 2013
Microsoft has released an advance notification of 9 security bulletins that it plans to release on April 9, 2013. Microsoft said it will patch nine vulnerabilities in total and two of them rated critical and that of the remaining 7 as Important. The critical vulnerabilities are remote code execution issues. First vulnerability affects Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer while the second vulnerability affects Microsoft Windows.  The vulnerability will fix a flaw that allows a drive-by attack, which hackers can exploit to attack machines running the software using malware loaded websites. Earlier this year, Microsoft released an emergency update for Internet Explorer after all the commotion about the security holes in Java. The update aimed to patch a security vulnerability in Internet Explorer that is being used for attacks on government contractors and other organisations. The remaining 7 vulnerabilities pertain to issues affecting Microsoft Office, Microsof...

Jul 29, 2021
An unidentified threat actor has been exploiting a now-patched zero-day flaw in Internet Explorer browser to deliver a fully-featured VBA-based remote access trojan (RAT) capable of accessing files stored in compromised Windows systems, and downloading and executing malicious payloads as part of an "unusual" campaign. The backdoor is distributed via a decoy document named "Manifest.docx" that loads the exploit code for the vulnerability from an embedded template, which, in turn, executes shellcode to deploy the RAT, according to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes, which spotted the suspicious Word file on July 21, 2021.  The malware-laced document claims to be a "Manifesto of the inhabitants of Crimea" calling on the citizens to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin and "create a unified platform called 'People's Resistance.'" The Internet Explorer flaw, tracked as CVE-2021-26411 , is notable for the fact that it was abused by the ...

Google And Mozilla To Make "Do Not Track" Stages !

Jan 26, 2011
SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Mozilla and Google, on Monday took steps to give people privacy online, but most everyone said obstacles remain to create simple "Do not follow the software buttons for web browsing . Mozilla has proposed the addition of a signal of its popular Firefox browser that allows users to automatically prompt sites do not monitor their online activities. Web sites then decide whether to grant or desire to continue collecting data for purposes such as targeting Internet advertising. Firefox users would be able to convey what I want to watch a third based on advertising by setting the browsers send a "Do not follow the HTTP header" on each click or page view. "The problem with adding this to the head is that you have both browsers and sites to be implemented to be fully effective," the Mozilla technology and privacy of Alex Fowler, acknowledged in a blog. IE9 exploit puts Windows 7 SP1 at risk !

Apr 08, 2011
A new exploit for IE9 bypasses all security measures in even the latest fully patched version of Windows 7, according to a French security company Vupen. The exploit uses an unpatched zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer 9 and bypasses all the extra security measures of Windows 7. The latest version of Microsoft's operating system, fully up-to-date with service pack 1 (SP1), is vulnerable. The security hole was reported by the French security company Vupen, that previously discovered an IE8 vulnerability in December of last year. Vupen classifies the exploit for IE9 as reliable, which means it's an effective way for cyber attackers to run malicious code of their choosing on Windows 7 PCs. The exploit manages to break through Windows' additional security layers, such as ASLR, DEP and the sandbox (Protected Mode) in IE9. "The exploit uses two distinct vulnerabilities. The first one allows execution of arbitrary code within the IE9 sandbox. The second one allo...

Researchers Detail Windows Event Log Vulnerabilities: LogCrusher and OverLog

Oct 25, 2022
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details about a pair of vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, one of which could be exploited to result in a denial-of-service (DoS). The exploits, dubbed  LogCrusher  and  OverLog  by Varonis, take aim at the EventLog Remoting Protocol ( MS-EVEN ), which enables remote access to event logs. While the former allows "any domain user to remotely crash the Event Log application of any Windows machine," OverLog causes a DoS by "filling the hard drive space of any Windows machine on the domain," Dolev Taler  said  in a report shared with The Hacker News. OverLog has been assigned the CVE identifier CVE-2022-37981 (CVSS score: 4.3) and was addressed by Microsoft as part of its  October Patch Tuesday  updates. LogCrusher, however, remains unresolved. "The performance can be interrupted and/or reduced, but the attacker cannot fully deny service," the tech giant said in an advisory for the flaw released earli...
