Backtrack is run by muts, the same guy who also  administers exploit-db, so no wonder why it was super easy to get a shell...       $ uname -a Linux backtrack-linux.org 2.6.32.26-175.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Dec 1 21:39:34 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ id uid=48(apache) gid=494(apache) groups=494(apache) context=unconfined_u:system
Making Sense of Operational Technology Attacks: The Past, Present, and Future

Making Sense of Operational Technology Attacks: The Past, Present, and Future

Mar 21, 2024Operational Technology / SCADA Security
When you read reports about cyber-attacks affecting operational technology (OT), it's easy to get caught up in the hype and assume every single one is sophisticated. But are OT environments all over the world really besieged by a constant barrage of complex cyber-attacks? Answering that would require breaking down the different types of OT cyber-attacks and then looking back on all the historical attacks to see how those types compare.  The Types of OT Cyber-Attacks Over the past few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the need for improved cybersecurity practices in IT's lesser-known counterpart, OT. In fact, the lines of what constitutes a cyber-attack on OT have never been well defined, and if anything, they have further blurred over time. Therefore, we'd like to begin this post with a discussion around the ways in which cyber-attacks can either target or just simply impact OT, and why it might be important for us to make the distinction going forward. Mar 18, 2012
Mutillidae 2.1.17 : Born to be Hacked A few days ago an update " Mutillidae " version 2.1.17 was released. Mutillidae is a free, open source web application provided to allow security enthusiest to pen-test and hack a web application. Mutillidae can be installed on Linux, Windows XP, and Windows 7 using XAMMP making it easy for users who do not want to install or administrate their own webserver. If you would like to practice pen-testing/hacking a web application by exploiting cross-site scripting, sql injection, response-splitting, html injection, javascript injection, clickjacking, cross frame scripting, forms-caching, authentication bypass, or many other vulnerabilities, then Mutillidae is for you. Mutillidae has been tested/attacked with Cenzic Hailstorm ARC, W3AF, SQLMAP, Samurai WTF, Backtrack, HP Web Inspect, Burp-Suite, NetSparker Community Edition, and others. Features Installs easily by dropping project files into the "htdocs" folder of XAMPP. Switch

Wireless Penetration Testing Series Part 2: Basic concepts of WLANs

Wireless Penetration Testing Series Part 2: Basic concepts of WLANs This blog post is in continuation of the Wireless Penetration Testing and Hacking series we started ( Part 1: Getting Started with Monitoring and Injection ) on the basis of the "SecurityTube Wi-Fi Security Expert" ( SWSE ) course which is based on the popular book " Backtrack 5 Wireless Penetration Testing ". In the third video, the instructor talks about some of the basic concepts of WLANs. We learn that communication over WLAN's happens over frames. There are mainly 3 types of WLAN frames which are Management frames, Control frames, and Data frames. These types of packets also have different subtypes . We learn that an SSID is a name given to an Access point or a network consisting of multiple Access points. We then learn about Beacon frames which are broadcast frames sent out periodically by Access point to broadcast their presence in the current RF (Radio frequency) vicinity. The instructor then starts wire
