Researcher Publishes 10 Million Usernames and Passwords from Data Breaches

Feb 10, 2015
A security researcher has publicly released a set of 10 Million usernames and passwords, which he collected from multiple data breaches over the last decade for the purpose of his research. These 10 million usernames and passwords are collective of leaked database dumps those were already available publicly on the Internet. However, Mark Burnett, a well-known security consultant who has developed a specialty collecting and researching passwords leaked online, marked his decision to publish the password dump as legally risky, but necessary to help security researchers. WHY IS THE RESEARCHER WILLING TO SHARE PASSWORDS ? The researcher says the released set of passwords and usernames is like a sample data, which is important for other researchers to analyze and provide great insight into user behavior and is valuable for encouraging password security . Also, the researcher was frequently receiving lots of requests from students and other security researchers to submit a copy ...

NSA paid $10 Million bribe to RSA Security for Keeping Encryption Weak

Dec 21, 2013
If you own a world-renowned Security Product or a Service, National Security Agency (NSA) is ready to pay you 10 Million or more bribe for keeping intentional backdoor for them. According to an exclusive report published by Reuters , there is a secret deal between the NSA and respected encryption company RSA to implement a flawed security standard as the default protocol in its products. Earlier Edward Snowden leaks had revealed that the NSA created a flawed random number generation system (Dual_EC_DRBG), Dual Elliptic Curve , which RSA used in its Bsafe security tool and now Snowden has revealed that RSA received $10 million from NSA for keeping Encryption Weak. So, anyone who knows the right numbers used in Random number generator program, can decipher the resulting cryptotext easily. Google Fined $379 Million by French Regulator for Cookie Consent Violations

Sep 04, 2025 GDPR / Data Privacy
The French data protection authority has fined Google and Chinese e-commerce giant Shein $379 million (€325 million) and $175 million (€150 million), respectively, for violating cookie rules. Both companies set advertising cookies on users' browsers without securing their consent, the National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) said. Shein has since updated its systems to comply with the regulation. Reuters reported that the retailer plans to appeal the decision. "When creating a Google account, users were encouraged to choose cookies linked to the display of personalized advertisements, to the detriment of those linked to the display of generic advertisements and that users were not clearly informed that the deposit of cookies for advertising purposes was a condition to be able to access Google's services," the CNIL noted . The consent obtained in this manner is not valid and constitutes a violation of the French Data Protection Act (Article 82), it...
