N3XT — Advanced CHIP that Could Make Your Computer 1000 Times Faster

Dec 16, 2015
Researchers have come up with an all new way to revolutionize the standard computer chip that comes inbuilt in all our electronics. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon , Stanford , and t he University of California , Berkeley among others, have invented a new material that could replace the 'silicon' in conventional chips – built in all electronic devices – making the device's processing  speed 1,000 times faster . This means that the new chip made with nano-material could solve complex problems in a fraction of the time our computers take. The brand new chip, dubbed Nano-Engineered Computing Systems Technology (N3XT) , takes the landscape from a resource-heavy single-storey layout to an efficient ' Skyscraper ' approach, claims a Rebooting Computing special issue of the IEEE Computer journal. Silicon Chip – A Resource-Heavy Single-Storey Layout The standard silicon chips currently used in all electronic devices have one major issue: The

This is How Tokyo Police Catching Rogue Drones in the Sky

Dec 14, 2015
So how do you catch rogue drones that take your sky? With another Giant Drone, of course! This is exactly how the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is catching unwanted and potentially dangerous drones flying over the city, according to Japan Today. The department is launching an anti-drone squad in order to prevent people from flying their drones overcrowded residential areas and important buildings in Tokyo, including the Prime Minister's Office. How So? Instead using a dragnet on the ground, the police authorities will use a drone armed with a net to scoop up the suspected drones and carry them away to safety. Watch the Video: The Tokyo Metropolitan Police have also released a video that shows its special Net-Wielding Drone in action. You can look at the video above. It looks like the police are using a DJI Spreading Wings 900 with a 3 x 2 m² of Net tied to its feet. As soon as a rogue drone is spotted in the sky, the squad will first a

The Drop in Ransomware Attacks in 2024 and What it Means

Apr 08, 2024Ransomware / Cybercrime
The  ransomware industry surged in 2023  as it saw an alarming 55.5% increase in victims worldwide, reaching a staggering 5,070.  But 2024 is starting off showing a very different picture.  While the numbers skyrocketed in Q4 2023 with 1309 cases, in Q1 2024, the ransomware industry was down to 1,048 cases. This is a 22% decrease in ransomware attacks compared to Q4 2023. Figure 1: Victims per quarter There could be several reasons for this significant drop.  Reason 1: The Law Enforcement Intervention Firstly, law enforcement has upped the ante in 2024 with actions against both LockBit and ALPHV. The LockBit Arrests In February, an international operation named "Operation Cronos" culminated in the arrest of at least three associates of the infamous LockBit ransomware syndicate in Poland and Ukraine.  Law enforcement from multiple countries collaborated to take down LockBit's infrastructure. This included seizing their dark web domains and gaining access to their backend sys

Hacker-Friendly Search Engine that Lists Every Internet-Connected Device

Dec 11, 2015
Meet an all-new Hacker's Search Engine similar to Shodan – Censys . At the end of last month, security researchers from SEC Consult found that the lazy manufacturers of home routers and Internet of Things (IoT) devices have been re-using the same set of hard-coded cryptographic keys , leaving around 3 millions of IoT devices open to mass hijacking. But how did the researchers get this number? Researchers uncovered these devices with the help of Censys – a new search engine that daily scans the whole Internet for all the vulnerable devices. Censys Maintains Complete Database of Everything on The Internet Censys is similar to hacker's search engine Shodan , which is designed specifically to locate any devices that have been carelessly plugged into the Internet without much attempt at preventing unauthorized access. However, Censys employs a more advanced method to find vulnerabilities in the devices and make the Internet a safer place. Censys is a fre

MIT Scientists: Now You Can See Through Walls with Wi-Fi

Oct 29, 2015
Forget about Superman's X-rays vision, you can now see through walls using WI-FI device only. Scientists at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab ( CSAIL ) have developed a device that uses WiFi signals to effectively see through walls and other obstacles, and identify which persons are standing behind it. Dubbed RF Capture , the new system is enhanced version of their previous methods of capturing movements across a house – technology used by mothers to see their baby's breathing and firefighters to determine if there are survivors in a burning building. How Does RF Capture Work? The working of RF Capture is actually quite simple and relatively straightforward. RF-Capture works by transmitting wireless signals that, upon hitting a person standing behind a wall, are reflected off various body parts and then back to the device for analysis to piece together the whole image of people. RF-Capture transmits radio waves that pass thro

This Guy Builds A Thor-Like Hammer that Only He Can Pick Up

Oct 14, 2015
If you have watched the most recent Avengers movie, then you would be aware of a scene where all the superheroes Iron Man, War Machine, Hawkeye, and Captain America take turns to lift Thor's hammer but fail. Someone has an explanation, Why? Inspired by Thor's legendary hammer Mjolnir that is not liftable by anyone except Thor, an electrical engineer has built a real-life Mjolnir that only he can pick up. Electrical engineer Allen Pan , who also runs the Sufficiently Advanced YouTube channel, created a giant hammer that only he can lift, so long as the hammer is on a metal surface. To make his hammer immovable, Pan made use of: A capacitive touch sensor ( fingerprint sensor ) attached to the handle An Arduino Pro Mini and a solid state relay, which serves as a switching device. A microwave oven transformer electromagnet that uses electricity to produce a very strong magnetic field. The electromagnet creates a very strong magnetic field, strong enough

Quantum Teleportation — Scientists Teleported Quantum Data over 60 Miles

Sep 28, 2015
We are just one step closer to creating a Harry Potter or ' Star Trek '-style Transporter. However, When we talk about Teleportation, we don't typically mean Teleporting any matter from one place to another as in the Science-fiction Movies. Rather, Teleportation involves capturing the essential information about something — its " quantum state ", to recreate it exactly someplace else. A month ago, The Hacker News had reported the battle between Quantum computers and Encryption . Now, with the development of technology, the NIST Scientists have set a new record in the field of " Quantum Teleportation ", as they successfully Teleported a small amount of data ( called 'qubit' ) inside light particles over a distance of 60 miles ( 100 km ) through a network of optical fiber. Teleportation enables transfer of ' Quantum state ' of a Photon to another Photon in the same state residing remotely at a far-off distance. This Record being farthest than t
