CACTUS Ransomware Exploits Qlik Sense Vulnerabilities in Targeted Attacks

CACTUS Ransomware Exploits Qlik Sense Vulnerabilities in Targeted Attacks

Nov 30, 2023 Ransomware / Vulnerability
A  CACTUS ransomware campaign  has been observed exploiting recently disclosed security flaws in a cloud analytics and business intelligence platform called Qlik Sense to obtain a foothold into targeted environments. "This campaign marks the first documented instance [...] where threat actors deploying CACTUS ransomware have exploited vulnerabilities in Qlik Sense for initial access," Arctic Wolf researchers Stefan Hostetler, Markus Neis, and Kyle Pagelow  said . The cybersecurity company, which said it's responding to "several instances" of exploitation of the software, noted that the attacks are likely taking advantage of three flaws that have been disclosed over the past three months - CVE-2023-41265  (CVSS score: 9.9) - An HTTP Request Tunneling vulnerability that allows a remote attacker to elevate their privilege and send requests that get executed by the backend server hosting the repository application. CVE-2023-41266  (CVSS score: 6.5) - A path tr
Buhti Ransomware Gang Switches Tactics, Utilizes Leaked LockBit and Babuk Code

Buhti Ransomware Gang Switches Tactics, Utilizes Leaked LockBit and Babuk Code

May 25, 2023 Endpoint Security / Cyber Threat
The threat actors behind the nascent  Buhti  ransomware have eschewed their custom payload in favor of leaked LockBit and Babuk ransomware families to strike Windows and Linux systems. "While the group doesn't develop its own ransomware, it does utilize what appears to be one custom-developed tool, an information stealer designed to search for and archive specified file types," Symantec  said  in a report shared with The Hacker News. The cybersecurity firm is tracking the cybercrime group under the name  Blacktail . Buhti was first highlighted by Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 in February 2023,  describing  it as a Golang ransomware targeting the Linux platform. Later that same month, Bitdefender revealed the use of a Windows variant that was deployed against Zoho ManageEngine products that were vulnerable to critical remote code execution flaws ( CVE-2022-47966 ). The operators have since been observed swiftly exploiting other severe bugs impacting IBM's Aspera Fasp
Code Keepers: Mastering Non-Human Identity Management

Code Keepers: Mastering Non-Human Identity Management

Apr 12, 2024DevSecOps / Identity Management
Identities now transcend human boundaries. Within each line of code and every API call lies a non-human identity. These entities act as programmatic access keys, enabling authentication and facilitating interactions among systems and services, which are essential for every API call, database query, or storage account access. As we depend on multi-factor authentication and passwords to safeguard human identities, a pressing question arises: How do we guarantee the security and integrity of these non-human counterparts? How do we authenticate, authorize, and regulate access for entities devoid of life but crucial for the functioning of critical systems? Let's break it down. The challenge Imagine a cloud-native application as a bustling metropolis of tiny neighborhoods known as microservices, all neatly packed into containers. These microservices function akin to diligent worker bees, each diligently performing its designated task, be it processing data, verifying credentials, or

Zoho ManageEngine PoC Exploit to be Released Soon - Patch Before It's Too Late!

Jan 17, 2023 Cyber Threat / Vulnerability
Users of Zoho ManageEngine are being urged to patch their instances against a critical security vulnerability ahead of the release of a proof-of-concept ( PoC ) exploit code. The issue in question is  CVE-2022-47966 , an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability affecting several products due to the use of an outdated third-party dependency, Apache Santuario. "This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated adversary to execute arbitrary code," Zoho  warned  in an advisory issued late last year, noting that it affects all ManageEngine setups that have the SAML single sign-on (SSO) feature enabled, or had it enabled in the past. Horizon3.ai has now released Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) associated with the flaw, stating that it was able to successfully reproduce the exploit against ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus and ManageEngine Endpoint Central products. "The vulnerability is easy to exploit and a good candidate for attackers to 'spray and pray' acr

Warning: Yet Another Zoho ManageEngine Product Found Under Active Attacks

Warning: Yet Another Zoho ManageEngine Product Found Under Active Attacks

Dec 04, 2021
Enterprise software provider Zoho on Friday warned that a newly patched critical flaw in its Desktop Central and Desktop Central MSP is being actively exploited by malicious actors, marking the third security vulnerability in its products to be abused in the wild in a span of four months. The issue, assigned the identifier  CVE-2021-44515 , is an authentication bypass vulnerability that could permit an adversary to circumvent authentication protections and execute arbitrary code in the Desktop Central MSP server. "If exploited, the attackers can gain unauthorized access to the product by sending a specially crafted request leading to remote code execution," Zoho  cautioned  in an  advisory . "As we are noticing indications of exploitation of this vulnerability, we strongly advise customers to update their installations to the latest build as soon as possible." The company has also made available an  Exploit Detection Tool  that will help customers identify sig
CISA Warns of Actively Exploited Zoho ManageEngine ADSelfService Vulnerability

CISA Warns of Actively Exploited Zoho ManageEngine ADSelfService Vulnerability

Sep 09, 2021
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Wednesday issued a bulletin warning of a zero-day flaw affecting Zoho ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus deployments that is currently being actively exploited in the wild. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2021-40539 , concerns a REST API authentication bypass that could lead to arbitrary remote code execution (RCE). ADSelfService Plus builds up to 6113 are impacted. ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus is an integrated self-service password management and a single sign-on solution for Active Directory and cloud apps, enabling admins to enforce two-factor authentication for application logins and users to reset their passwords. "CVE-2021-40539 has been detected in exploits in the wild. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to take control of an affected system," CISA  said , urging companies to apply the latest security update to their ManageEngine servers and "ensure ADSelfService Plus is not directl
Simplifying SSH keys and SSL Certs Management across the Enterprise using Key Manager Plus

Simplifying SSH keys and SSL Certs Management across the Enterprise using Key Manager Plus

Nov 02, 2016
With rapidly growing web-based services and widely expanding locations, organizations are using more and more SSL certificates as well as SSH keys than ever. From authentication, confidentiality, and integrity to preventing the organization from industrial espionage, SSL certificates play an important role. Managing SSL certificates across networks to ensure protection and prevent unanticipated failures is critical, and it also becomes complicated with multiple locations, divisions as well as the fastest growing use of external cloud-based services. This not only complicates the process of managing individual SSL certificate and SSH key for an administrator but also costs organizations heavily. A key solution for this issue is to use an advanced and efficient SSL certificate and SSH Key management system. An effective solution enables an organization to know what kinds of certificates and keys it has, simplifies certificate discovery and monitor across multiple vendors, an
