Multiple security vulnerabilities have been disclosed in softphone software from Linphone and MicroSIP that could be exploited by an unauthenticated remote adversary to crash the client and even extract sensitive information like password hashes by simply making a malicious call. The vulnerabilities, which were discovered by Moritz Abrell of German pen-testing firm SySS GmbH, have since been addressed by the respective manufacturers following responsible disclosure. Cybersecurity researchers on Tuesday disclosed details about a zero-click security vulnerability in the Linphone Session Initiation Protocol ( SIP ) stack that could be remotely exploited without any action from a victim to crash the SIP client and cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. Tracked as  CVE-2021-33056  (CVSS score: 7.5), the issue concerns a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the " belle-sip " component, a C-language library used to implement SIP transport, transaction, and dialog layers, with all versions prior to  4.5.20  affected by the flaw. The weakness was discovered and reported by industrial cybersecurity company Claroty. The  ransomware industry surged in 2023  as it saw an alarming 55.5% increase in victims worldwide, reaching a staggering 5,070.  But 2024 is starting off showing a very different picture.  While the numbers skyrocketed in Q4 2023 with 1309 cases, in Q1 2024, the ransomware industry was down to 1,048 cases. This is a 22% decrease in ransomware attacks compared to Q4 2023.
