Edward Snowden nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

Edward Snowden nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
Jul 15, 2013
Edward Snowden has helped to make the world a little bit better and safer. A Swedish professor of sociology has nominated NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. In his letter addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, sociology professor Stefan Svallfors recommended the Snowden be a candidate, for his " heroic effort at a great personal cost " shedding light on the expansive cyber-spying conducted by the NSA . A nomination for Snowden would be symbolic because it shows ' that individuals can stand up for fundamental rights and freedoms .' he said. But it may be too late for Snowden to receive the award this year, so he will not be eligible for this year's prize, which will be awarded in December, but could be considered for 2014. The head of the International Committee of the Russian State Duma Aleksey Pushkov tweeted, " Not in a million years will the United States allow Snowden to get the Peace Prize. But h

Hidden microphone found in Ecuador's embassy in UK
Jul 05, 2013
A hidden microphone was found in Ecuador's embassy in London, where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is sheltering from extradition to Sweden, The Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino claimed. The microphone was found in the office of the ambassador Ana Alban and was discovered last month during his visit to Britain to discuss issues surrounding Julian Assange. At a press conference in Quito, the foreign minister of Ecuador, held up a photo of a " spy microphone " that was found on June 14 inside a small white box that was placed in an electrical outlet behind a bookshelf. However, the purpose of the bug, according to Patino, was not to track the WikiLeaks founder directly, but rather listen to the conversations of ambassador Ana Alban. He told reporters: " We have reason to believe that the bugging was carried out by The Surveillance Group Limited, one of the largest private investigation and covert surveillance companies in the United Kin

Making Sense of Operational Technology Attacks: The Past, Present, and Future
Mar 21, 2024Operational Technology / SCADA Security
When you read reports about cyber-attacks affecting operational technology (OT), it's easy to get caught up in the hype and assume every single one is sophisticated. But are OT environments all over the world really besieged by a constant barrage of complex cyber-attacks? Answering that would require breaking down the different types of OT cyber-attacks and then looking back on all the historical attacks to see how those types compare.  The Types of OT Cyber-Attacks Over the past few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the need for improved cybersecurity practices in IT's lesser-known counterpart, OT. In fact, the lines of what constitutes a cyber-attack on OT have never been well defined, and if anything, they have further blurred over time. Therefore, we'd like to begin this post with a discussion around the ways in which cyber-attacks can either target or just simply impact OT, and why it might be important for us to make the distinction going forward. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will not leave Ecuadorian Embassy in London

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will not leave Ecuadorian Embassy in London
Jun 18, 2013
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will not leave the Ecuadorian Embassy after Ecuador's foreign minister has said its embassy in London will continue to provide political asylum to Julian Assange. He was staying in embassy  for the past year to avoid extradition to Sweden. The Australian will be arrested if he steps outside the building, so the jet-set lifestyle has been replaced by a single room and his laptop.  Assange said he fears Sweden would allow him to be extradited to the United States to face potential charges relating to WikiLeaks releases of sensitive diplomatic and defense communications. So as of tomorrow, he decided to spent one year inside the embassy, even if sex charges against him are dropped. " The strong view of my US lawyer is that there is already a sealed indictment which means I would be arrested, unless the British Government gave information or guarantees that would grant me safe passage ," he said. Assange claims that the

WikiLeaks releases hacked US military detention policies
Oct 25, 2012
The whistleblowing website Wikileaks from tonight releasing more than 100 U.S. Defense Department files detailing military detention policies in camps in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay in the years after the September 11 attacks on U.S. targets - " The Detainee Policies " In a statement , WikiLeaks criticized regulations it said had led to abuse and impunity and urged human rights activists to use the documents to research what it called policies of unaccountability . WikiLeaks says it plans to release the files in chronological order to paint a picture of the evolution of America's military detainee practices. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said: " The 'Detainee Policies' show the anatomy of the beast that is post-9/11 detention, the carving out of a dark space where law and rights do not apply, where persons can be detained without a trace at the convenience of the U.S. Department of Defense. It shows the excesses of the early days of war against an unknown

Anonymous going to lauch wikileaks like project called TYLER
Oct 23, 2012
International hacker group Anonymous is going to create a WikiLeaks competitor scandalous leak portal called Tyler,  for the publication of secret information from governments of various countries. One of the group's members, who specified that he is representing the collective, spoke about the TYLER project and the rift with WikiLeaks in an email interview with the Voice of Russia. They have scheduled this new project to December 21 this year. According to the hacker, who requested anonymity, the conflict between Anonymous and the website of Julian Assange revolves around the forced funding techniques and lack of transparency around money to WikiLeaks. So far Anonymous defends WikiLeaks and Assange personally and supported the mission of the site to share information, news and classified information with the public. They even helped to publish more than 2 million emails, known as the Syrian file. Since Assange has repeatedly threatened to close the WikiLeaks, hackers have decided

We Are Being Held in Cyber Handcuffs
Oct 09, 2012
Hello my Princes of Peace, Warriors of the Revolution, Princesses of the cause, I want you to take two minutes and watch this video: This video is the epitome of the ignorance and arrogance of governments all over the world in response to our cyber war revolution. As you will see, the power people all gathered to warn themselves and the world of the "threat" of the hackers gangs of teenagers running wild on the internet hacking into governments and threatening our safety. EXCUSE ME?? Just who is threatening who here? The most important thing I want you to know is that this type of whining is happening all over the world, and how it is translating is into cybercrime laws and in the case of the United States, Executive Orders that give the government and law enforcement the right to suppress and deny your right to public information, the right to free speech and the right to protest against the corruption and destruction of government secrecy and shenanigans. Why do you think they ha

Hackers Deface website of former British cabinet minister
Aug 26, 2012
Hackers claiming allegiance to the Anonymous movement of cyber-rebels have defaced the website of a former British cabinet minister in solidarity with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. " If the reason ... is revenge for Assange's treatment, it's weird to attack me," Hain said in comments carried by the BBC. "They have not done their research because I have supported Assange and opposed his extradition. " Hain's website was defaced Saturday by a group calling itself Anonymous UK, whose logo consisted of a dark, headless suit against a Union Jack. The group made a variety of allegations against the 62-year-old Labour Party politician, before adding: " The UK's persecution of Julian Assange will NOT be forgotten ." Assange's fight to avoid extradition took a dramatic turn in June, when Assange fled to the Ecuadorean Embassy seeking refuge. The ensuing standoff sparked a diplomatic crisis between Britain and Ecuador and could potentially drag on for months

I know how to get Julian Assange out of the Embassy

I know how to get Julian Assange out of the Embassy
Aug 24, 2012
Let's forget the political mumbo jumbo and posturing going on between countries about the release of Julian Assange. It is time to approach this in a "Sho-Gun" switch-a-roo style and get this over with. If not, we are going to be reading endless editorials and opinions about who is doing what, and what is doing who. Ugggh. With the help of the Ecuadorian Administration and some well planned orchestration with the group Anonymous, we can do this. Let's let the Guy Fawkes mask slide us into victory with my new handy dandy plan that is sure to get the by now, haggard and worried Assange, into Ecuadorian freedom and fame. It is simple really. We need a call to arms, a ready army of Anons that can be recruited at a moments notice to storm the embassy. Just stop for a minute and picture it. Hundreds, no thousands, of masked Anons, wearing black, storming the embassy at night and throwing a wig on Assange and, of course, a mask (I am sure he has one) and moving him out into the crowd

Julian Assange - The most Fuckable Man on the Planet
Aug 19, 2012
Julian Assange made a speech today from the balcony of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and I felt a primal urge brought on by the fact that this man, in all his manly glory, has stuck his proverbial neck out for the essence of life. Truth and Justice. He is a handsome and articulate man, fighting for the basic rights of every human being on the planet. What could be more sexy? Putting aside husbands, lovers, friends, and professional media, he can Wik my Leaks anytime he wants. Julian started by reminding us that he is there because he can't be elsewhere. He blended his thanks for Ecuador's stand for justice with the announcement of an emergency meeting of Latin American countries next Friday specifically to address his situation and to defend the right of asylum. He made a straight forward statement that the United States must return to the values it was founded on and " Obama must do the right thing ." Bradley Manning must be released and " he is a hero and example to all

The Truth About Julian Assange And Wikileaks By: Ann Smith , Executive Editor The Hacker News Last night I had the privilege of speaking to Christine Assange , the mother of Julian Assange  who has been a reluctant hostage of a global political war among the United States, the UK, and Sweden and of all places Ecuador. Christine was very informative and thorough in explaining the history and current events regarding the heinous manner in which her son has been treated for supporting one of the most sacred rights of man this being right to have and freely provide access to truthful information. Still, facts and information do not cover the love and concern a mother feels for her child. As a mother myself, I felt Christine's immense and intense worry for her son's safety and his life. As a citizen of the world who carries many of the same concerns we all do of political strife, injustice, world war, poverty, and economic failure, she is above all a mother. I respect Chr

FBI actually leak Stratfor e-mails just to bust Julian Assange?

FBI actually leak Stratfor e-mails just to bust Julian Assange?

FBI actually leak Stratfor e-mails just to bust Julian Assange ? Internal emails disclosed by Anonymous and WikiLeaks suggest that Stratfor, a private intelligence firm working with the U.S. Justice Department. But The FBI turned a computer hacker to build its case against a group of people it alleges are responsible for a string of audacious attacks that captured the personal details of more than one million people. Hector Monsegur, known as Sabu, leader of the Anonymous affiliated hacking group LulzSec, was arrested by FBI agents in his New York apartment on Monday, June 7, 2011, at 10:15PM. On August 15, Monsegur pleaded guily to several counts of hacking and identity theft.  Seeing that Xavier 'Sabu' Monsegur had apparently been working for the FBI for the last couple of months, it isn't too far-fetched to think that the leaks of the Stratfor e-mails given to Wikileaks by Anonymous was nothing more than a tactic to entrap Wikileaks and build a case against Assange

#WikiLeaks publishes millions of Hacked Stratfor E-mails #gifiles WikiLeaks today began publishing more than five million confidential e-mails from US-based Intelligence firm Stratfor.  About 5.5m emails obtained from the servers of Stratfor, a US-based intelligence gathering firm with about 300,000 subscribers and has been likened to a shadow CIA. The emails, snatched by hackers, could unmask sensitive sources and throw light on the murky world of intelligence-gathering by the company known as Stratfor, which counts Fortune 500 companies among its subscribers. Stratfor in a statement shortly after midnight said the release of its stolen emails was an attempt to silence and intimidate it. The Online organisation claims to have proof of the firm's confidential links to large corporations, such as Bhopal's Dow Chemical Co and Lockheed Martin and government agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Marines and the US Defense Intelligence Agency. Wiki

" Cyber China ", from Operation Aurora to China Cyber Attacks Syndrome Security Expert, from  Security Affairs  -  Pierluigi Paganini takes us on a visit to China via The Hacker News January Edition Magazine Article and makes us wonder just how influential China's hacking is on world internet security. Read and decide for yourself : When we think of China in relation to cyber warfare, we imagine an army of hackers hired by the government in a computer room ready to successfully attack any potential target. China is perceived as a cyber power and ready to march against any insurmountable obstacle using any means. In this connection we read everything and its opposite, and we are ready to blame all sorts of cyber threat to the Country of the Rising Sun. The truth, however, is quite different, at least in my opinion, and understands that the Chinese people before others have understood the importance of a strategic hegemony in cyber space. However, many doubts are beginning to gather

Julian Assange interview on Spy Files " Give me liberty or give me death " is a statement made famous by Patrick Henry but could easily have been stated by the new patriot of justice, Julian Assange. Julian Assange is a journalist and activist best known as the founder and public face of WikiLeaks, the Internet based publisher making headlines around the world by releasing secret or suppressed information revealing government and corporate misconduct.Assange and WikiLeaks have, in the words of 60 Minutes " Rattled the worlds of journalism, diplomacy, and national security. " In December 2011, WikiLeaks released the documents from a database containing hundreds of documents from contractors in what WikiLeaks calls the "mass surveillance industry." or " Spy Files ". 1.)
