Developer Workstations Are Now Part of the Software Supply Chain

Developer Workstations Are Now Part of the Software Supply Chain

May 18, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Developer Security
Supply chain attackers are not only trying to slip malicious code into trusted software. They are trying to steal the access that makes trusted software possible. Recently, three separate campaigns hit npm, PyPI, and Docker Hub in a 48-hour window, and all three targeted secrets from developer environments and CI/CD pipelines, including API keys, cloud credentials, SSH keys, and tokens. This is an ongoing concern and is self-propagating, as seen in attacks like the "mini Shai Hulud" campaigns.  That pattern should change how security teams think about the software supply chain. Traditionally, security focused on shared systems like source code repositories, CI/CD platforms, artifact registries, package managers, and cloud environments. The goal was to protect production workloads and data. We absolutely still need to focus on these areas, but it is an incomplete picture.  Modern software delivery begins before code reaches Git. It begins on the developer workstation, wher...

May 18, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Botnet
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered four new npm packages containing information-stealing malware, one of which is a clone of the Shai-Hulud worm open-sourced by TeamPCP . The list of identified packages is below - chalk-tempalte (825 Downloads) @deadcode09284814/axios-util (284 Downloads) axois-utils (963 Downloads) color-style-utils (934 Downloads) "One of the packages (chalk-tempalte) contains a direct clone of the Shai-Hulud source code that TeamPCP leaked last week, probably inspired as part of the supply chain attack competition that was published in BreachForums not long after," OX Security's Moshe Siman Tov Bustan said. Interestingly, the malicious payloads embedded into the four npm packages are different, despite them being published by the same npm user, " deadcode09284814 ." As of writing, the four libraries are still available for download from npm. An analysis of the packages has revealed that "axois-utils" is designed ...

Grafana GitHub Token Breach Led to Codebase Download and Extortion Attempt

May 17, 2026 Data Breach / Cybercrime
Grafana has disclosed that an "unauthorized party" obtained a token that granted them the ability to access the company's GitHub environment and download its codebase. "Our investigation has determined that no customer data or personal information was accessed during this incident, and we have found no evidence of impact to customer systems or operations," Grafana said in a series of posts on X. The company also said it immediately launched a forensic analysis upon discovering the activity and that it identified the source of the leak, adding the compromised credentials have since been invalidated, and extra security measures have been implemented to secure against unauthorized access. Furthermore, Grafana revealed the attacker tried to blackmail and extort the company, demanding they make a payment to prevent the stolen database from being published. Grafana said it has opted not to pay the ransom, citing guidance issued by the U.S. Feder...

Checkmarx has confirmed that a modified version of the Jenkins AST plugin was published to the Jenkins Marketplace. "If you are using Checkmarx Jenkins AST plugin, you need to ensure that you are using the version 2.0.13-829.vc72453fa_1c16 that was published on December 17, 2025 or previously," the cybersecurity company said in a statement over the weekend. As of writing, Checkmarx has released 2.0.13-848.v76e89de8a_053 on both GitHub and the Jenkins Marketplace. A spokesperson for the company said the new version addresses the concerns associated with the incident. It's assessed that the malicious code was published after obtaining credentials from a previous supply chain attack that took place in March 2026. The development is the latest attack orchestrated by TeamPCP targeting Checkmarx. It arrives a couple of weeks after the notorious cybercrime group was attributed to the compromise of its KICS Docker image, two VS Code extensions, and a GitHub Actions workflo...

Apr 30, 2026 Threat Intelligence / Enterprise Security
Intro A sophisticated, high-resilience malicious campaign was identified by Atos Threat Research Center (TRC) in March 2026. This operation specifically targets the high-privilege professional accounts of enterprise administrators, DevOps engineers, and security analysts by impersonating administrative utilities they rely on for daily operations. By integrating Search Engine Order (SEO) poisoning , a dual-stage GitHub distribution architecture , and decentralized blockchain-based command-and-control (C2) resolving, Threat Actors have established a highly resilient delivery and persistence mechanism. Creative Distribution via GitHub Facades The campaign utilizes a multi-layered delivery chain designed to evade platform-level takedowns and maintain a high search engine ranking. The attack begins with SEO poisoning on various search engines, including Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Yandex. That ensures that malicious results for niche IT terms rank at the top of search ...
Google Fixes CVSS 10 Gemini CLI CI RCE and Cursor Flaws Enable Code Execution

Google Fixes CVSS 10 Gemini CLI CI RCE and Cursor Flaws Enable Code Execution

Apr 30, 2026 AI Security / Vulnerability
Google has addressed a maximum severity security flaw in Gemini CLI -- the "@google/gemini-cli" npm package and the "google-github-actions/run-gemini-cli" GitHub Actions workflow -- that could have allowed attackers to execute arbitrary commands on host systems. "The vulnerability allowed an unprivileged external attacker to force their own malicious content to load as Gemini configuration," Novee Security said in a Wednesday report. "This triggered command execution directly on the host system, bypassing security before the agent’s sandbox even initialized." The shortcoming, which does not have a CVE identifier, carries a CVSS score of 10.0. It affects the following versions - @google/gemini-cli < 0.39.1 @google/gemini-cli < 0.40.0-preview.3 google-github-actions/run-gemini-cli < 0.1.22 In its advisory published last week, Google said the impact is limited to workflows using Gemini CLI in headless mode, adding that any use of...

Cybersecurity researchers are sounding the alarm about a new supply chain attack campaign targeting SAP-related npm Packages with credential-stealing malware. According to reports from Aikido Security , Onapsis , OX Security ,  SafeDep , Socket , StepSecurity , and Google-owned Wiz , the campaign – calling itself the Mini  Shai-Hulud – has affected the following packages associated with SAP's JavaScript and cloud application development ecosystem - mbt@1.2.48 @cap-js/db-service@2.10.1 @cap-js/postgres@2.2.2 @cap-js/sqlite@2.2.2 "The affected versions introduced new installation-time behavior that was not previously part of these packages' expected functionality," Socket said. "The compromised releases added a preinstall script that acts as a runtime bootstrapper, downloading a platform-specific Bun ZIP from GitHub Releases, extracting it, and immediately executing the extracted Bun binary." "The implementation also follows HTTP redirects wi...
LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

Apr 29, 2026 Vulnerability / Cloud Security
In yet another instance of threat actors quickly jumping on the exploitation bandwagon, a newly disclosed critical security flaw in BerriAI's LiteLLM Python package has come under active exploitation in the wild within 36 hours of the bug becoming public knowledge. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-42208 (CVSS score: 9.3), is an SQL injection that could be exploited to modify the underlying LiteLLM proxy database. "A database query used during proxy API key checks mixed the caller-supplied key value into the query text instead of passing it as a separate parameter," LiteLLM maintainers said in an alert last week. "An unauthenticated attacker could send a specially crafted Authorization header to any LLM API route (for example, POST /chat/completions) and reach this query through the proxy's error-handling path. An attacker could read data from the proxy's database and may be able to modify it, leading to unauthorized access to the proxy and the c...
Researchers Discover Critical GitHub CVE-2026-3854 RCE Flaw Exploitable via Single Git Push

Researchers Discover Critical GitHub CVE-2026-3854 RCE Flaw Exploitable via Single Git Push

Apr 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Software Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a critical security vulnerability impacting GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Server that could allow an authenticated user to obtain remote code execution with a single "git push" command. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-3854 (CVSS score: 8.7), is a case of command injection that could allow an attacker with push access to a repository to achieve remote code execution on the instance. "During a git push operation, user-supplied push option values were not properly sanitized before being included in internal service headers," per a GitHub advisory for the vulnerability. "Because the internal header format used a delimiter character that could also appear in user input, an attacker could inject additional metadata fields through crafted push option values." Google-owned cloud security firm Wiz has been credited with discovering and reporting the issue on March 4, 2026, with GitHub validating and deployi...

Brazilian LofyGang Resurfaces After Three Years With Minecraft LofyStealer Campaign

Apr 28, 2026 Malware / Supply Chain Attack
A cybercrime group of Brazilian origin has resurfaced after more than three years to orchestrate a campaign that targets Minecraft players with a new stealer called LofyStealer (aka GrabBot). "The malware disguises itself as a Minecraft hack called 'Slinky,'" Brazil-based cybersecurity company ZenoX said in a technical report. "It uses the official game icon to induce voluntary execution, exploiting the trust of young users in the gaming scene." The activity has been attributed with high confidence to a threat actor known as LofyGang , which was observed leveraging typosquatted packages on the npm registry to push stealer malware in 2022, specifically with an intent to siphon credit card data and user accounts associated with Discord Nitro, gaming, and streaming services. The group, believed to be active since late 2021, advertises their tools and services on platforms like GitHub and YouTube, while also contributing to an underground hacking communit...
